Charities warn of ´alarming´
rise in cancer test waits

Telegraph [UK], by Laura Donnelly

Original Article

The number of patients waiting for key tests which can diagnose cancer has reached a six-year high, with a doubling in waits for some scans in the last month, official figures show. Latest monthly statistics show more than 18,000 patients waited six weeks or more for 15 diagnostic tests, including MRI and CT scans, and hearing and cardiac tests. The figure has almost trebled over the last year and is the highest it has been for six years. The statistics show that the numbers waiting at least six weeks for CT scans have doubled in just one month, from 859

Add it to your list of "Things to be Aware of With ObamaSnare."

Last time I checked into this situation I found that scans are given in regional centers and are not nearly as numerous and accessible as in the US. While the scan businesses around here are open in the evenings and on weekends, and appointments can often be made for the evening of the day you call, those in the UK are usually only open 8 to 5 or so.

Travel can sometimes be like a time machine.
For example, take a trip to Canada, see the near future of obamacare America. Or take a trip to Britain, see what American medical care will look like in a few years farther down the road.

Glasgow has become the latest local authority to announce it will fly the Palestinian flag in a move that has been denounced as extremely "divisive". Leaders declared the flag will fly above the City Council chambers tomorrow to show solidarity with those affected by the recent conflict in Gaza. [Snip] Councillor Sadie Docherty, Lord Provost of Glasgow, said that the Council had written to the Mayor of Bethlehem, Ms Vera Baboun, to offer Glasgow´s support. She said: “Glasgow is home to many friends of Palestine and this is a deeply distressing time for them.

Hamas has chosen death:

I welcome the much needed ceasefire in Gaza and pray that it will lead to a lasting, long-term resolution of a bitter and tragic conflict. [Snip] Within the last month alone, Hamas has fired over 3,000 missiles at population centres in Israel. In its deep-rooted desire to murder and cause maximum damage, Hamas does not distinguish between Jew, Muslim and Christian, so hell-bent is it on killing Israelis. Since Israel withdrew from Gaza nine years ago, Hamas has been diverting humanitarian funds donated by us, the international community, intended to assist and enhance quality of life for the people of

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with US lawmakers in the hope that they can ring-fence his country from Palestinian accusations that it committed war crimes during the recent fighting. Israel has consistently maintained that its military strikes on Gaza, some of which have resulted in civilian deaths, have been in self-defence against rocket attacks from terrorist group Hamas. However, Palestinian officials are thought to be considering joining the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a bid to have Israel investigated. Netanyahu met with a delegation of US politicians--including Republican Steve Israel--to discuss ways of keeping the spotlight off its actions in

Thousands of Christians are reported to be fleeing after Islamic militants seized the minority´s biggest town in Iraq. The Islamic State (IS) group captured Qaraqosh in Nineveh province overnight after the withdrawal of Kurdish forces. [Snip] Kurdish forces, known as the Peshmerga, have been fighting the Sunni militants´ advance in the north for weeks. In a separate development, the United Nations says it has rescued some of the thousands of people trapped by IS militants in mountains near the town of Sinjar. Up to 50,000 members of the Yazidi religious minority fled there after IS overran Sinjar at the weekend.

Several Britons Quarantined For Ebola

Several British nationals have been voluntarily quarantined with suspected Ebola, according to the Daily Telegraph. The admission came from public health officials and follows revelations an individual in Cardiff had expressed fears they had contracted the disease.[Snip] This means that they have to wait up to 21 days, which is the maximum incubation period. The World Health Organisation has also claimed that the virus is spreading faster than they can control. This may be because of a misunderstanding about how the virus is transmitted, in 2012 a study suggested that Ebola may be transmitted through the air.

They are scared of lettuce. They abhor pumpkins. They practise maybe the oldest religion in the world. And now, after at least 6,000 years, they are finally being exterminated, even as I write this. If you haven’t noticed this epochal crime--the raping and the slaughter--you’re not alone. Of late, the world has focused on the horrors of Gaza. When we’ve had time to acknowledge the Satanic cruelties of Isis, in Iraq, we’ve looked to the barbaric treatment of women, and Christians. Yet the genocide of the Yezidi, by Isis, is as evil as anything going on right now in the Middle

Israel has arrested a man from Hebron who it says has confessed that the operation to abduct and murder three Israeli teens in June was funded by Hamas in Gaza. Hussam Qawasmeh was arrested on 11 July in the Shuafat neighbourhood of East Jerusalem by an elite Israeli anti-terrorism unit who had been tipped off by intelligence from the Shabbak agency, Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told The Telegraph. Mr Qawasmeh, a resident of Hebron in the West Bank, was trying to obtain a fake passport in order to flee into Jordan, Mr Rosenfeld said. On Tuesday night, details about

Sources told the BBC the target was a prison used as a base by fighters from the Islamic State (IS), a jihadist group that seized Mosul in June. It is rare for a minister to resign from the Government on a matter of principle; so Baroness Warsi’s decision to step down from her Foreign Office post in protest at the UK’s policy on Gaza merits greater attention than usual. She alleges that the even-handed position adopted by Britain towards the two combatants is “morally indefensible”. This suggests that Lady Warsi wanted far greater condemnation of Israel than has been forthcoming from David Cameron and his ministers. But how would that have helped matters? President Obama gave a press conference this evening. He started a little over an hour late without explanation. Reporters stuck to asking questions that they evidently knew Obama would be comfortable answering. None of them asked him about any of his administration scandals. ABC’s Jon Karl, usually a tough questioner of Obama and his spokesmen, asked a rambling question that played right into the Democrats’ “economic patriotism” canard. Despite the fact that the president showed a passionless, bloodless, disinterested face to the world, he still managed to do some damage. Chris Jansing of CNN asked Obama if the sanctions against Russia are working.

Sen. Pat Roberts fended off an aggressive challenger Tuesday in the Kansas Republican primary, dealing another blow to a national tea party movement that has targeted longtime Washington incumbents. Milton Wolf, 43, a Leawood radiologist making his first run for public office, failed to pull the upset in the race against Roberts, 78, whose political dates to the late 1960s, when he was a congressional aide. After surviving the primary, Roberts is a huge favorite to win his fourth, six-year term in November. Republicans enjoy a nearly 20 percentage-point advantage among registered voters and have won every U.S. Senate race

First Lady Michelle Obama shared some thoughts about women versus men during a conversation with former First Lady Laura Bush at the U.S Africa Leaders Summit in Washington D.C. And the men can’t complain because you’re outnumbered today,” she said as the audience laughed. Obama cited Laura Bush as a First Lady that acted with a level of

In the poll, which was conducted July 30-August 3, a majority believed that allowing illegal immigrants "to stay will be a signal that will encourage thousands more to try and come here, placing an even greater burden on limited public services such

Former president Jimmy Carter called on the West to recognize the U.S.-designated terrorist group Hamas as a legitimate "political actor" that represents the bulk of the Palestinian population. Carter made the comments in an article he co-wrote with former Irish president Mary Robinson in a new issue of Foreign Policy magazine. It was published as a cease-fire took hold Tuesday after four weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas, which governs Gaza. In a sharply worded rebuke to Israel, Carter and Robinson said, "There is no humane or legal justification for the way the Israeli Defense Forces are conducting this war."
