Media Ignorance Is Becoming
A Serious Problem

Federalist, by Mollie Hemingway

Original Article

Posted By:Toledo, 7/9/2014 9:51:31 AM

Last week, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed Zach Carter, who is The Huffington Post‘s senior political economy reporter. The interview’s purpose was to discuss Carter’s negative response to Hewitt’s previous interview of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The interview was lively and interesting but it did not go well for Carter, who was forced to admit his ignorance of the historical context of the situation in Iraq. Looked at one way, the interview might almost seem like pointless point-scoring. In response to Hewitt’s questions, Carter admitted he didn’t know who Alger Hiss was and that he hadn’t read The Looming

What do you mean, becoming?
The media has only one purpose: making the U S into a Progressive gem. We are to take our place beside North Korea, Cuba, and Somalia as pillars of equal outcomes.
The only skill needed in the media is the skill of lying with a smile. No other skills are needed.
Nothing new here. Has been the same at least since the halcyon days of Walter Duranty, who perjured himself into h*** with his lies about the USSR. Got a Pulitzer Prize for it, too.
Stop whining. Our press is part of the Executive Office of the President (if the President is progressive), and a part of the Alinksy opposition (if the President is Republican).

I know this feeling all too well. My sister-in-law is one of the entertainment producers on CBS This Morning. She´s completely forgotten her hometown roots and (of course) is flamingly liberal (with a BS in TV Production from the Univ of KY.)

She does not even know the meaning of the phrase ´out of pocket.´

My wife and her younger sister were discussing how to split the cost of a rental vehicle they were going to use for a week-long vacation to Hilton Head when my wife used the phrase ´out of pocket.´ My sister-in-law just looked at my wife and asked my wife what that meant.

THIS - from a supposed savvy ´journalist´ who has lived and worked in Manhattan for over 20 years...

The link to Matt Yglesias stupidity is a riot. What a moron. Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings were two of the most biased reporters. But they also were two of the smartest. They knew history as well as anyone. Jennings especially. I could live with them. I doubt either would kowtow to Obama the way today´s media does. When Charles Pickering was being maltreated by the Dems in the Senate it was Wallace who went after them. He knew his history of the south and that there was no hint of racism in Pickering.

Very fine essay. "´What garden was that?´" is one memorable quotation of many. Obviously, she had never heard Joni Mitchell´s "Woodstock," never mind Genesis.

Whittaker Chambers´s Witness (1952) is an essential read, as much for its darkly elegant, rolling prose style as for its history of the communist movement in the early to mid-Twentieth Century. Chambers was, after all, a communist who saw the light and repented.

FTA: Trust in the media has hit record lows, according to a new Gallup poll. I can’t help but suspect this statistic would look less grim if our media were even slightly more informed about the things they act like they know so much about.

So true. As for Matt Yglesias, he is a major leftist blogger, invincibly ignorant but certain of himself. And although I am protestant, the greateat influence in my young adult life (and afterwards) was WFB, a devout Roman Catholic. Wide ranging inspiration is a necessity, and always has been.

Why Obama’s ‘We don’t

By now, President Obama´s remark that "We don´t have a strategy yet" has made the rounds. Republicans were quick to pounce on it, as well they should have. But while the White House went into damage-control mode, emphasizing that it was a reference to the lack of decisions about increasing military action in Iraq and/or Syria and not a lack of a broader strategy there, the damage was already done. As with all gaffes, the worst ones are the ones that confirm people´s pre-existing suspicions or fit into an easy narrative. That´s why "47 percent" stung Mitt Romney so much, and its

IRS ethics lawyer facing possible

A lawyer in the IRS ethics office is facing the possibility of being disbarred, according to records that accuse her of lying to a court-appointed board and hiding what she’d done with money from a settlement that was supposed to go to two medical providers who had treated her client. The disciplinary arm of the D.C. Court of Appeals has recommended that Takisha McGee, a section manager in the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, lose her law license over the charge, which stems from a personal injury case she worked about a year before she joined the tax agency.

One of the notable things about the Obama administration isn’t simply that its key figures often make misleading claims, but that they do so in ways that can be so easily disproven. The latest effort is in the White House’s attempt to have us believe that the president, in his now infamous “jayvee” analogy, didn’t have ISIS in mind. Here’s an exchange between NBC’s Peter Alexander and White House press secretary Josh Earnest that took place on Monday: PETER ALEXANDER, NBC: Did the president underestimate ISIS when he referred to them in an interview only a couple months ago as

There is a pervasive belief that poverty is a key driver of terrorism. American foreign aid increased under George W. Bush, justified partly by security concerns. Bush said at the time, “We work for prosperity and opportunity because they’re right. It’s the right thing to do. We also work for prosperity and opportunity because they help defeat terror.” Similarly Bill Clinton has stated “we have to create more opportunity for those left behind by progress, thus reducing the pool of potential terrorists.” This framing of poverty and development as national security issues continued with the Obama administration. A United Airlines flight from Newark to Denver was diverted because of two passengers who were fighting over a little bit of legroom. A woman and a man — both seated in the “Economy Plus” section of the aircraft, which already comes with extra legroom — were at each other’s throats because the man attached a “knee defender” device to his seat, preventing the woman in front from reclining, according the Associated Press. The $22 device locks onto the tray table on the back of the seat, making it impossible for the person in front to recline during the flight.

Martin E. Two weeks ago, President Obama announced air strikes in northern Iraq against ISIS. The mission, as Obama explained it at the time, was designed to pursue two very limited objectives: “targeted airstrikes to protect our American personnel and a humanitarian effort to help save thousands of Iraqi civilians who are trapped on a mountain without food and water and facing almost certain death.” Two days ago, when Obama spoke in the aftermath of the brutal beheading of the photojournalist James Foley, his verbal tone was visibly angrier. American officials started speaking of their mission in very different terms. John Kerry wrote that

intelligence community has observed a “significant increase” in chatter among terrorist organizations as the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks nears. “We’ve noticed a significant increase in chatter among Islamic terrorist organizations overseas both on the Internet and phone lines,” a U.S. government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Blaze. While the intelligence community can not pinpoint whether or not an attack is planned, the official said that agencies “did see this kind of increase in chatter before the September 11 attacks.”
