Mark Zuckerberg’s immigration
push hits brick wall

Politico, by Jessica Meyers

Original Article

Mark Zuckerberg’s immigration reform push had all the capital, connections and star power to merit success. But not even Silicon Valley could make this investment — and the Facebook founder’s first foray into national politics — pay off. Tech leaders poured millions into FWD.us, an immigration advocacy group that has dominated ad buys, launched elaborate hackathons and coddled conservatives in an effort to revamp the country’s immigration system. It galloped into the debate with the tech industry’s classic certainty but wound up facing the same obstacles that have halted reform for decades.

Sounds like the dogs (the American public) wouldn´t eat the dog food.

Even my liberal friends are waking up to the necessity for border security, and talking deportation like never before.

Zuckerberg is spending huge sums to improve education in Newark. That´s probably having as much success as the immigration push. Maybe he should have employees at Facebook adopt kids from Guatemala.

GOP’s Benghazi committee

The rising threat from Islamic extremists has set the stage for Republicans to make a splash with the launch of their Benghazi investigation next week. The media glare had largely fallen away from the probe into the terror attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead. But with the second anniversary of the attack looming on Thursday, and a new book by U.S. security contractors claiming a CIA station chief ordered them to “stand down” during the assault, the start of the investigation into Benghazi is poised to become a major event. “ISIS

Often in U.S. history, the president stands virtually alone at the precipice of war. He gathers Congress for an address to an uncertain nation and declares, "Here is why we must fight." This is not one of those times. In a few hours, President Obama will stand before a public that, without his leadership, largely determined that the Islamic State must be stopped. What they want to hear from their commander-in-chief is, "I´m ready to fight." With that dynamic in mind, here are five things to watch for tonight: Does the president recognize the Islamic State as a serious threat? Obama compared

British and US intelligence officials are close to identifying "Jihadi John", the masked British militant who featured in videos showing the gruesome killing of two kidnapped American journalists, it was reported on Tuesday. "They have a pretty good idea of who it may be," US law enforcement officials told CNN before cautioning that despite deployment of the most sophisticated technologies, the identification was still "not 100 per cent". Pressure is building on Western intelligence agencies to identify the British member of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), who spoke with a strong London accent and is one of 500 British

Allies to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are casting a stark distinction between a decisive, assertive Clinton and a pragmatic, deliberative President Obama on foreign policy. As Obama seeks to make the case for military action against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria in a prime-time address on Wednesday, Clinton supporters are saying that she would have approached the battle with ISIS in a completely different way if she were commander in chief. “You never want to be a Monday morning quarterback on these issues because who knows how things would ultimately turn out, but Obama has been passive

Attorney General Eric Holder is one of President Obama´s best-known and longest-serving cabinet members. Most recently, he led the administration´s response to the racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri following the Michael Brown killing, launching multiple Justice Department investigations into the police department there. If the results of a new Wall Street Journal poll are any guide, Holder´s service has not brought him much public approval. The Attorney General was one of a number of people and organizations that Journal pollsters asked respondents to "rate your feelings toward each one as very positive, somewhat positive, neutral, somewhat negative, or very negative." Consider this paradox: Americans overwhelmingly support President Obama´s actions against the Islamic State so far—airstrikes and humanitarian assistance without ground troops—and yet they disapprove of Obama´s handling of the ISIS crisis. Why the split mind? The White House and its liberal media echo chamber says it has nothing to do with the president´s job performance, which they find virtually flawless. Spokesman Dan Pfeiffer played the victim card: "The people who try to beat us up over these things will continue to do so." He rejected criticism that the move is an attempt to help embattled democrats during a contentious election year, saying the reforms would be more "sustainable" if they´re enacted after the highly-polarized political season. The Obama administration will make a decision on executive action to prevent corporations from leaving the country in the "very near future," Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said Monday morning. Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough. Inversions are tax maneuvers in which corporations buy firms in low-tax countries in order to place their headquarters in that country. Such deals have grown in number in recent months, with
