‘Astonishing’ new twist
in Alps murder inquiry

Daily Express [UK], by Mark Reynolds, Peter Allen

The slaughter of a British family in the Alps took an extraordinary twist yesterday when police revealed that one of the victims had a secret former husband who died in the US on the very same day--possibly killed by a poisoned dart. [Snip] But police yesterday revealed that Iqbal had a “secret ex-husband” who died in mysterious circumstances in Natchez, Mississippi, on the day the family were gunned down in their car while on holiday in the Alps in September 2012. Benoit Vinnemann, a senior police commander working on the case, said the “family secret” may have provided a motive for

Swiss police must be mystified by suchlike motives.
But it comes from the same Sharia as their Sharia-compliant banking.

This piece from a Brit tabloid is full of speculation. The part about the gun collector being a possible suspect in the shooting was intereresting. The part about the former husband sounds like a tabloid-style reach.

Egyptian and Palestinian delegates have reportedly reached a new agreement on a draft cease-fire proposal that will be submitted to Israel on Saturday, a Palestinian official told AFP. Peace has to start with Israeli and Palestinians leaders, namely Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, US President Barack Obama told the New York Times´ Foreign Affairs columnist Thomas Friedman. [Snip] Obama worried that Netanyahu´s high approval ratings--which have jumped in recent weeks in the wake of Israel´s month-long operation in Gaza--could prevent him from making the difficult concessions needed to reach a long-term deal: "If he doesn’t feel some internal pressure, then it’s hard to see him being able to make some very difficult compromises," like the issue of settlements, the president said.

´Disproportionate” is the key word deployed against Israel over Gaza. Israel is criticised because so few Israelis have died compared with the number of Palestinians. Israel is held more morally culpable because its Iron Dome anti-rocket defence system actually works. Would it be better if hundreds of Israelis had died? [Snip] You might think that if a militarily inferior force (Hamas) fires rockets at its powerful neighbour (Israel), and digs tunnels so that its fighters can pop out and murder or kidnap that neighbour’s citizens, it is asking for trouble. British forces could join the Americans in bombarding militants in Iraq if the situation becomes significantly worse, it emerged last night. Officials did not rule out RAF air strikes if there is a real threat of genocide. It came as American warplanes pounded Islamic State artillery positions near Irbil, where US troops are stationed. God bless America. Following the announcement last night by Barack Obama that the United States is about to resume military operations in Iraq, it appears the Yazidi will not now be killed with their families. There is also hope that Iraq’s other minorities may face some form of protection from their persecutors. It’s an announcement that won’t be welcomed by everyone. For me, watching the Food Network was always an easy escape from the stresses of daily life. There was just something calming about watching chefs in action, and this network had perfected Zen cooking. They’d often use a natural-light filter that made food appear delectable, as if the chefs were blissfully cooking their culinary delights in the sunlit designer kitchen of a tastefully decorated, impeccable home somewhere in the Hamptons. (Well, with Ina Garten, that actually is the case.) I’ve never been anywhere near a sunlit designer kitchen in the Hamptons, but I still found it all oddly soothing. I’d

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Summit earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry had a bit of astonishing advice for African leaders. While noting that Africa faces a starvation problem, he also admonished its leaders not to create more farms. The reason? Adding more farms would contribute to “global warming.” Yeah, he really said that: “Certain agricultural processes can actually release carbon pollution and actually contribute to the problem in the first place. It’s a twisted circle. Always complicated. But we also know that there are certain ways to change that. For example, rather than convert natural areas to new farmland, a process

PRESIDENT OBAMA was right to order military action to prevent a potential genocide in northern Iraq and to stop forces of the al-Qaeda-derived Islamic State from advancing on Baghdad or the Kurdish capital of Irbil. However, the steps the president authorized on Thursday amount to more of his administration’s half-measures, narrowly tailored to this week’s emergency and unconnected to any coherent strategy to address the conflagration spreading across the Middle East. While U.S. airstrikes and drops of supplies may prevent the terrorist forces from massacring the Yazidi sect or toppling the pro-Western regime in Kurdistan, Mr. Obama lacks a plausible
