Government Made 100B

Associated Press, by Stephen Ohlemacher

WASHINGTON -- By its own estimate, the government made about $100 billion in payments last year to people who may not have been entitled to receive them - tax credits to families that didn´t qualify, unemployment benefits to people who had jobs and medical payments for treatments that might not have been necessary. Congressional investigators say the figure could be even higher. The Obama administration has reduced the amount of improper payments since they peaked in 2010. Still, estimates from federal agencies show that some are wasting big money at a time when Congress is squeezing agency budgets and looking to save

That´s what happens when you have big bloated bureaucracies and a mentality that government is supposed to cure all ills and right all wrongs (perceived and real).

Dumb and dumber politicians never learn. Big goobermint leads to big fraud. The recent case in point is BarryCare and fraud subsidies that were handed out. Does anyone think that´s going to be paid back? No, just raise taxes on every one else to pay for it. I say take the amount out of HHS and the WH who perpetuated it. There´s no chance of getting congressional demonrats to pay for it themselves. The only thing we can do there is toss their arses out in each election cycle starting in Nov.

Obama dragged down by chaos at

“Why do you think President Obama´s job rating is falling, even though the economy is recovering?” the interviewer asked. It´s a fair question, even though the economy declined 2.9 percent in the first quarter, even though most jobs created in June were part-time, even though labor force participation remains low. The fact is that the economy is growing, however slowly, jobs are being created and the unemployment rate is heading down toward what economists consider full employment. And still the president´s job rating languishes. What´s wrong with the question is an assumption embedded within it, that what voters seek most

The U.N. agency that runs schools and hospitals in Gaza is supposed to be neutral. But it gave 20 rockets found in one of its buildings to cops who many believe report to Hamas. When 20 rockets were discovered last week in a U.N.-funded school in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees was quick to condemn the storage of weapons of war in a building meant to educate children. But rather than turn them over to a third party, or arrange for their disposal, the agency, known as UNRWA, handed them over to the local police force,

The tragic fate of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, believed shot down by a missile in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 on board, has cast a new light on the series of gambles Russian President Vladimir Putin embarked on in late February. At that time, Putin sent military intelligence troops in unmarked uniforms to take control of the southern Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. Three weeks later, Russia annexed the region. As Russian-speaking Ukrainians farther north in Donetsk and Luhansk stormed administrative buildings, demanding independence from Kiev, Russian intelligence officers started slipping across the border to help organize the militias. In subsequent months, Moscow

Max Steinberg and Nissim Sean Carmeli grew up in America. But they both developed a passion for Israel. The young men´s love of Israel ultimately led them to join the Israel Defense Forces, and they ended up fighting for the Jewish state in the Gaza Strip this week. On Sunday, Steinberg, 24, and Carmeli, 21, were killed there. They were among 13 Israeli soldiers and 65 Palestinians killed Sunday during the first major ground battle in two weeks of fighting between Israel and Hamas. GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- The death toll among Palestinians from the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip reached 508 on Monday, Gaza health officials said as the two sides counted their dead following the bloodiest day of fighting so far in the two-week campaign. Diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire intensified amid the mounting carnage. In New York, the U.N. Security Council expressed "serious concern" about Gaza´s rising civilian death toll and demanded an immediate end to the fighting following an emergency session. U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon pressed ahead with his push for a truce in a trip to the region,

It dropped last night and it´s unlikely to pass, but Sen. Ted Cruz injected himself into the border crisis like Paul Stanley rising out of a stage elevator at the start of a KISS show. True, Cruz is the elected U.S. senator from the state with the greatest current influx of child migrants. But his colleague, Sen. John Cornyn, was trying to get a coalition together for a small bill reversing the 2008 child trafficking provision that created a special processing system for migrants from Central America.* Cruz is going for a full defunding of President Obama´s Deferred Status for Childhood

The book was published on January 17, 2012, under the William Morrow imprint of HarperCollins. With a little help from Morrow’s publicity department, Kyle was featured on segments of the Today Show and the O’Reilly Factor. A veteran of four tours in Iraq, Kyle’s overlay of modesty and bravado on top of his obvious heroism helped propel the book onto the best-seller list upon publication.

Here’s what the shootdown of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 means: Russia, with Vladimir Putin at the wheel, just drove off the edge of a cliff. Now, by this I don’t mean that the United States and the European Union are going to charge in with a new round of sanctions, provide lethal aid to Ukraine, patrol the skies of Ukraine, or anything of that nature. The West didn’t react in time, or with enough resolve, to the initial invasion and partition of Ukraine last spring, and there’s no reason to think our reaction will be any more effective or resolute this

It has been more than three months since my constituents in Bunkerville, Nev., had their lives turned upside down by the standoff at the Bundy ranch. Although Bunkerville (population 1,300) is no longer in the media spotlight, life there has not returned to normal. The militia presence may have dwindled, but a sense of chaos and uncertainty lingers in my state and the broader American West. When news of a rebellious rancher facing off with federal agents broke in April, conservative media and politicians pounced, quickly lionizing Cliven Bundy as a patriot. They handed Bundy a megaphone, and self-proclaimed militia members

At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer

Convinced that their region has suffered as much Obama administration meddling as it can possibly stand, Israel and Egypt took the extraordinary step earlier this week of jointly rejecting requests by US Secretary of State John Kerry to involve himself in ceasefire talks with the terrorist group Hamas. Israeli and Egyptian diplomats both claim Egyptian efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed as a direct result of Secretary Kerry’s announcement he was prepared to join the talks. He apparently made the announcement without first consulting either of the parties. The diplomats are convinced that their own

LOS ANGELES — Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” has died, police said. He was 86. He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday. Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press. There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday.

Miami - A jury in northwest Florida awarded a staggering $23 billion judgment late Friday against the country’s second-largest tobacco company for causing the death of a chain smoker who died of lung cancer at the age of 36. Michael Johnson Sr. died in 1996 after smoking for more than 20 years. In 2006, his widow, Cynthia Robinson, of Pensacola, sued the R. J. A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop
