Former U.S. president George W. Bush recently opened the doors to his gorgeous Texas ranch to reveal rooms where he once hosted world leaders and where he now bides his time painting them. Bush gave a tour of the Crawford home he completed just after becoming the nation´s 43rd president in 2001 to Architectural Digest for the magazine´s August cover story. It´s a rare glimpse at the sprawling property where Vladimir Putin once rode shotgun in Bush´s pickup and where the younger of W.´s twins, Jenna, held her intimate 2008 wedding. George and Laura Bush have retired to Dallas, Texas

There are certainly two Americas. It has nothing to do with income levels. Obama represents one and George and Laura Bush represent the other. I can hardly bear the contrast.

Secretary of State John Kerry has called climate change “the biggest challenge of all that we face right now,” and his French counterpart has warned of climate “chaos” in 500 days, and now the U.N. climate change chief is implying that climate change can be viewed on a par with the deadly Ebola outbreak. Christiana Figueres told a World Health Organization (WHO)-hosted event in Geneva Wednesday that “we are not very far” from the point where climate change should be declared an international public health emergency, according to her prepared remarks. DALLAS— The number of Texas cities that could be served by high-speed rail is growing quickly and now includes Bryan-College Station, an area best known as the home of Texas A&M University that was bypassed by the interstate highway system. High-speed-rail advocates stepped up their efforts Wednesday to bring bullet trains to Texas as early as 2021. A commission set up to oversee a proposed connection between Dallas and Fort Worth unanimously agreed to seek federal funding to also study a Fort Worth-Austin connection. One after another, public officials at the Commission for High-Speed Rail in Dallas/Fort Worth meeting at

An interesting development in the story of Douglas McAruhur McCain, the American jihadi who was killed this week in Syria, is that he was classmates with another young American who was killed while fighting with an Al Qaeda affiliate in Somalia in 2009. Tory Kastigar was a friend and classmate of McCain at Robinsdale Cooper High School in the Twin Cities in Minnesota. The principal at the high school at the time they attended doesn’t remember them but since they “had pretty normal kids” he could only think that they were subject to “influences” beyond the high school and the

Eric Holder´s Justice Department is coming under pressure to order sweeping changes to police operations in the United States. Civil rights and community groups, as well as some lawmakers, are pushing the attorney general to take action to address racial and social problems that they say were exposed by the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. “We’re at our zero moment as a nation,” said Maya Rockeymoore, president and CEO of the Center for Global Policy Solutions, a community-empowerment group. “If we continue to let this go unaddressed, we’re going to have Fergusons springing up all across the country.”

President Obama’s plan to schmooze Wall Street honchos at a Westchester fund-raiser Friday is grounding wealthy weekenders who planned to fly to the Hamptons or Nantucket for the Labor Day holiday. The FAA has issued a no-fly warning that extends for most of Friday and all day Saturday through Sunday, grounding seaplanes to East Hampton, Montauk, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. On Friday, Obama will be feted at the home of one of his top bundlers, 32 Advisors’ Robert Wolf, in the aptly-named Purchase, NY, with 250 high-rollers paying up to $32,000 each to bend Obama’s ear. This, I take it, was one of the twice-a-year seminars that Koch puts on, by invitation, for conservative donors and others. Three Republican Senate candidates, Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton and Cory Gardner, participated in a panel titled “The Senate: A Window of Policy Opportunity for Principled Leaders.” Whoever recorded the event gave the audio to a far-left web site that shared it with the Huffington Post, which wrote about the event here. The U.S. government has upped the quantity of marijuana it’s growing this year, to more than 1,400 pounds from the originally planned 46. The federal government classifies marijuana as a substance that has no medical use and is more dangerous than cocaine. But it’s willing to let researchers have access — under a few conditions. One condition is that each project needs approval from the Drug Enforcement Administration. Another is that researchers get the substance from a particular source: the federal government.

Some Native American people out there consider the word "Redskins" to be derogatory and, therefore, think the team name and logo are offensive. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.— Former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist continued his political comeback Tuesday as Democratic voters selected him as their nominee to challenge Republican Gov. Rick Scott in Florida, one of four states where voters were choosing candidates for statewide office. Crist easily defeated former state Sen. Both have struggled with sagging approval ratings and run-ins with conservatives. “It’s a wonderful night,” Crist declared after accepting a concession call from Rich. A ´supercavitating´ submarine creates a bubble of air that encompasses the whole vehicle by ejecting gas through the nose with enough force that it forms water vapor. This greatly reduces drag and allows it to travel at high speeds not possible by standard submarines. Photo: The Washington Post In the annals of vehicular locomotion, the submarine is the equivalent of the Walkman. It dazzled the masses when it hit, flexing nuclear-tipped missiles that completed the "nuclear triad" of deterrence. But other technologies soon surpassed it in terms of speed and agility.
