Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama draws on the deep well of his wisdom and his foreign policy successes to instruct Israelis on the path to peace in today’s Haaretz column “Peace is the only true path to security for Israel and the Palestinians.” Warning: Reading may induce nausea. “In President Abbas, Israel has a counterpart committed to a two-state solution and security cooperation with Israel,” Obama writes. Benjamin Netanyahu? The observant reader — such as Josh Lederman, the author of this AP story — will note that Obama offered no parallel praise for Netanyahu. He also omits any mention

In the past 5000 years there has been only one primary way of achieving ´Peace.´ It is a two step process:
1) Kick the cr*p out of your opponent
2) Impose peace on your opponent

According to today´s White House pool report, photographers were given a little time to photograph President Obama in the Oval Office -- and by a little, we mean a little."At 11:18 am, the pool was brought to the windows outside the Oval Office for a photo spray. It lasted 10 seconds." So naturally, this is what happened: (Tweet/Photo) Have no fear, though, these guys are pros. Here´s what AP´s Jacquelyn Martin was able to snap in that short amount of time:

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — A bear walking upright around a township development that has become an Internet sensation is injured and needs to be left alone, according to wildlife officials monitoring the situation. The black bear has an injury to both front legs, including its paws and possibly an elbow, said Tracy Leaver, the executive director of the Woodlands Wildlife Refuge. There´s no official cause of how the bear got injured. Kelcey Burguess, a black bear biologist with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, said he most likely "got hit by a car." Burguess said the bear is expected

Barack Obama and the Democrats have railed against the “do-nothing Congress” (translation: House Republicans) for nearly six years. So what are the facts? Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) recently addressed the charge: Currently, 352 bills that passed the House are awaiting action on Harry Reid’s desk. Of these bills: - 98% passed with bipartisan support – Nearly 70% passed with 2/3rds support or more – Over 50% passed with no opposition at all - And 55 were introduced by Democrats. And still, Harry Reid refuses to bring them up for a vote. So, surely the Democrats are confused, right? Of course

Maybe I´m the only who sees the little irony. A couple of F-18s take off from an aircraft carrier named Bush (41 that is) and hit targets in Iraq on President Obama´s orders. Wonder how many of us saw that one coming? I didn´t. At the same time, I did fear that we may have to go back if we withdrew too quickly for purely political reasons. Today, we learned that US planes hit militants: "Almost four years after combat operations ended in Iraq, a pair of F/A-18s bombed Islamic State artillery outside of Irbil in northern Iraq on Friday,

Baltimore´s new curfew fell like an unseen curtain across the city Friday night, and on many blocks, children continued to play outside for the first few minutes, oblivious to the controversial law. But at Poe Homes in West Baltimore, two mothers sitting on their front porches said they were obeying the rules willingly and happily. "It gets dark at 8 o´clock," said Nicole Williams as her 8-year-old son, Isaiah Turner, ran around just before the new law fell into place. "What child has reason to be outside?" Next to her was Kelly Carr, who said she also planned to pull

Obama to make statement

WASHINGTON— The White House says President Barack Obama will deliver a statement Saturday on the situation in Iraq. Obama is scheduled to make remarks at the White House at 10:25 a.m. (1425 GMT) before he leaves for vacation in Massachusetts. Obama announced late Thursday that he had ordered military airstrikes in northern Iraq to hold off Islamic State forces advancing on the Kurdish capital of Irbil. Obama also ordered airdrops of food and water to members of a religious minority group who fled into the mountains to escape the militants. U.S. military jets launched several airstrikes Friday on isolated targets,

For years, commentators have attempted to peg down just what the Obama Doctrine is. His allies have labeled the Obama Doctrine a form of realism about the limits of American power. His critics have labeled the Obama Doctrine “leading from behind.” In 2009, President Obama came up with his own definition of an Obama Doctrine: “we´re only one nation... the problems that we confront, whether it´s drug cartels, climate change, terrorism, you name it, can´t be solved just by one country.” But Obama has also, at certain points, claimed to champion unilateralism in the service of human rights and internationalism

Obama has repeatedly resisted any direct military intervention in Syria, even after the Syrian government crossed the “red line” of chemical weapons he set in Syria. Obama eventually insisted he had never set a red line at all, saying: “I didn’t set a red line–The world set a red line.” “Given that 200,000 or so have been killed in Syria, more than 2 million forced from their homes,

The president said that "combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq, because there´s no American military solution to the larger crisis there." Discussing with Mrs. Bush that countries that typically oppress women oftentimes struggle economically, Michelle shared that she felt that when it comes to speaking up for girls, first ladies “can’t waste [the] spotlight.” On behalf of both herself and Laura, Michelle pointed out that

For me, watching the Food Network was always an easy escape from the stresses of daily life. There was just something calming about watching chefs in action, and this network had perfected Zen cooking. (Well, with Ina Garten, that actually is the case.) I’ve never been anywhere near a sunlit designer kitchen in the Hamptons, but I still found it all oddly soothing. I’d

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Summit earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry had a bit of astonishing advice for African leaders. While noting that Africa faces a starvation problem, he also admonished its leaders not to create more farms. The reason? Adding more farms would contribute to “global warming.” Yeah, he really said that: “Certain agricultural processes can actually release carbon pollution and actually contribute to the problem in the first place. It’s a twisted circle. Always complicated. But we also know that there are certain ways to change that. For example, rather than convert natural areas to new farmland, a process

Peace has to start with Israeli and Palestinians leaders, namely Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, US President Barack Obama told the New York Times´ Foreign Affairs columnist Thomas Friedman. [Snip] Obama worried that Netanyahu´s high approval ratings--which have jumped in recent weeks in the wake of Israel´s month-long operation in Gaza--could prevent him from making the difficult concessions needed to reach a long-term deal: "If he doesn’t feel some internal pressure, then it’s hard to see him being able to make some very difficult compromises," like the issue of settlements, the president said.

PRESIDENT OBAMA was right to order military action to prevent a potential genocide in northern Iraq and to stop forces of the al-Qaeda-derived Islamic State from advancing on Baghdad or the Kurdish capital of Irbil. However, the steps the president authorized on Thursday amount to more of his administration’s half-measures, narrowly tailored to this week’s emergency and unconnected to any coherent strategy to address the conflagration spreading across the Middle East. While U.S. airstrikes and drops of supplies may prevent the terrorist forces from massacring the Yazidi sect or toppling the pro-Western regime in Kurdistan, Mr. Obama lacks a plausible
