“Without Chile´s help, we would
have lost the Falklands”, says
former RAF intelligence

MercoPress [Montevideo, Uruguay], by Staff

Posted By:PageTurner, 7/8/2014 3:04:45 PM

Chile´s support for Britain during the Falklands War has been revealed for the first time by the man who was dispatched, with only hours notice, to secure a South American ally, according to an article in the Daily Telegraph credited to Harriet Alexander. Sidney Edwards, now aged 80, was then a 47-year-old official in the RAF. In conditions of upmost secrecy, he was to play a key role in the conflict, awarded an OBE for his efforts – and believes that Chile´s support was vital to the British victory. Then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was reportedly so reliant on his intelligence

Comments:
Britain can thank Chile for this. Instead, they arrested Chile´s leader on his hospital bed. Read Maggie Thatcher´s impassioned speech on this matter. http://www.margaretthatcher.org/document/108383

Great article. Chile has their own problems with the Argies for trying to claim Chilean islands.

I have studied the Falklands war for many years and have never once heard anything abut the importance of Chile. In fact, the battles on land and at sea were completely autonomous of any land connection on the part of the British other than the islands themselves. To make a statement that the entire campaign depended on Chile is first incredible and second absurd.

Chilean assistance may have been valuable for other reasons, and possibly even helpful. But hardly indispensable to the British victory.

It´s like saying Australia was the only key to the U.S. winning over the Japanese in the Pacific in WWII. They were certainly helpful, and quite valuable. But with Australia or without her, the U.S. was going to destroy the Japanese, no matter what!

The same can be said of the Chilean assistance to Britain over the Falklands.

Venezuela´s state-run oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) is considering offers to sell its U.S. downstream subsidiary Citgo, industry research group Argus Media reported on its website last Friday. The government has received three separate offers to buy Citgo submitted through Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, Argus said citing energy ministry officials. ”The offers are in the range of 10bn to 15bn dollars for the Citgo assets, including three U.S. refineries with a combined nameplate crude processing capacity of 757,000 barrel per day (bpd), 48 products storage facilities, three wholly owned Citgo pipelines and stakes in six other

Perry Right In Warning Of

Immigration: Texas Gov. Rick Perry correctly warns that illegal immigrants are responsible for 3,000 murders and 8,000 sexual assaults in the past five years. And with the new border surge, there´s more trouble on the way. The Obama administration and its media enablers would have you believe the wave of illegal immigrants flooding the border is composed of nothing more than toddlers and their moms fleeing crime in Central America. As House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi put it, they´re "baby Jesus." But Baby Jesuses don´t go around raping and murdering, let alone overcrowding prisons, as Perry bluntly points out.

Haitian Illegal Immigration Through

While U.S. immigration agencies grapple with a recent surge of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants at the Mexican border, the number of Haitians trying to enter the U.S. illegally through Puerto Rico has skyrocketed as well. In 2011, only 12 Haitians made the trek through the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory in the Caribbean Sea. That number had ballooned to 1,760 as of last year, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics, CBS News reports. “That’s new, and that’s something we’re trying to target,” Capt. Mark Fedor, the Coast Guard’s chief of response for the Southeast and Caribbean, told

Immigration: The White House and open-borders lobby have stepped up pressure for amnesty by painting the migrant tsunami as a flood of toddlers. But a Pew study, citing Border Patrol data, shows that more than half the entrants are teenage males. Nobody pours it on about "the children" as an argument for negating border laws like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who wears her Catholicism on her sleeve. "I reference the (U.S. Catholic) conference of bishops´ statement in which they say baby Jesus was a refugee from violence," Pelosi told MSNBC Wednesday. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is standing with Republicans on the border crisis, just months after breaking with his party on illegal immigration. Bush, who made headlines earlier this year for saying illegal immigration was often an “act of love,” published an op-ed in Thursday’s Wall Street Journal that came out in strong support for sending the minors flooding the Texas border back to their countries of origin and changing the laws that let them enter the country. After first slamming President Obama for his response to the crisis, Bush celebrated GOP proposals to revise a 2008 anti-trafficking law that gives additional

NEW DELHI: A seven-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree Thursday (July 24) in a village in eastern India after locals suspect she was raped, police said, the latest in a string of reported attacks against children. Angry villagers sought revenge after discovering the body in West Bengal state, hunting down and attacking three men they accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering the girl, a police officer said. The IRS might not have lost the backups of former agency administrator Lois Lerner’s emails after all, according to a top IRS official. In testimony released Monday, Thomas Kane, the IRS’s deputy associate chief counsel, told House Oversight investigators last week that the agency was examining whether all the backup tapes which held the emails have been recycled. The IRS told lawmakers in June that the tapes had been recycled, one of the reasons that an untold number of Lerner’s emails were missing. Since then, the IRS commissioner, John Koskinen, has repeatedly stood by those statements in congressional testimony. But Kane, the top

Even in a city long plagued by violent crime, the bank robbery Wednesday left veteran police officers stunned. The robbers led police on a wild hourlong chase, holding hostages from the bank as human shields. Periodically, police say, the robbers would slow down, waiting for pursuing officers to come into view before opening fire with an AK-47-style assault rifle and other weapons. The pursuit ended in a minute-long gun battle that left two suspects and one hostage dead. Police said a third suspect survived uninjured because he used the hostage, Misty Holt-Singh, to shield himself from officers´ bullets. Singh had gone into

The ferocity of Friday’s unanimous rejection by the Israeli government of Secretary of State John Kerry’s cease was kept quiet to prevent a formal rupture of relations between the two erstwhile allies, reports Israel’s Channel 2 Television. The popular and widely-watched Saturday evening newscast quotes several unnamed high officials in the Israeli government who claimed that Kerry’s cease fire proposal represented a “complete cave-in” to Hamas’s demands for an end to fighting in its war against Israel. President Obama appears poised to take executive action that would legalize as many as 5 million illegal immigrant parents of U.S.-born children, a prospect that riles local immigration critics and adds a new dimension to concern about swelling immigrant populations in states like Massachusetts eyed as hosting sites for thousands of children who crossed the border unaccompanied. The Associated Press reported yesterday White House officials are laying the groundwork for an executive order that would automatically legalize roughly 5 million of an estimated 11 million people who have entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas.

When The Times of Israel’s Avi Issacharoff first reported the content of John Kerry’s ceasefire proposal on Friday afternoon, I wondered if something had gotten lost in translation. It seemed inconceivable that the American secretary of state would have drafted an initiative that, as a priority, did not require the dismantling of Hamas’s rocket arsenal and network of tunnels dug under the Israeli border. Yet the reported text did not address these issues at all, nor call for the demilitarization of Gaza. It seemed inconceivable that the secretary’s initiative would specify the need to address Hamas’s demands for a lifting of

A statement put out today by President Barack Obama on the occasion of a religious holiday is raising some eyebrows. The holiday is a Muslim one called "Eid-al-Fitr" and the statement says: his last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease. In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to

Former presidential nominee Mitt Romney would win the popular vote if a rematch of the 2012 election against President Obama were held today, a CNN/ORC poll has revealed. According to the poll, if the 2012 election were held again today, Romney would receive 53% of the popular vote, and Mr. Obama would receive 44%, CNN reported. Obama beat Romney 51%-47% in the actual election. The poll said, however, that the former Massachusetts governor would lose against Hillary Clinton by double digits in a hypothetical election. Mrs. Clinton would earn 55% of the vote, with Mr. Romney at 42%.

Murray´s article is a devastating deconstruction of claims that marijuana is relatively safe, or at least safer than alcohol. And, as he points out, it thereby undermines much of the basis of the New York Times´s blithely irresponsible editorial endorsement of marijuana legalization. Read Murray´s whole piece. Here are highlights: It’s a remarkable weekend when one finds the Grey Lady arguing for state’s rights, and worrying huffily about arbitrary Presidential powers. As she also did with NBC’s Brian Williams, who interviewed Clinton after she was hired by the network as a “special correspondent” — albeit one with no journalism experience. The Catholic Church—through the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Migration—both paved the road for Barack Hussein Obama’s ultimate takeover of Free West society and continues to actively enable the Fundamental Transformation of America by sinking the US in a tsunami of illegal aliens. In coming to Obama’s aid in erasing forever America’s borders, the bishops sold the USA out, including its Catholics, for the proverbial 30 pieces of silver. In biblical terms, Obama and the Catholic bishops—who both birthed his progress to the seat of power and back him on his Fundamental Transformation mission—are in in league with the devil.
