“Without Chile´s help, we would
have lost the Falklands”, says
former RAF intelligence

MercoPress [Montevideo, Uruguay], by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:PageTurner, 7/8/2014 3:04:45 PM

Chile´s support for Britain during the Falklands War has been revealed for the first time by the man who was dispatched, with only hours notice, to secure a South American ally, according to an article in the Daily Telegraph credited to Harriet Alexander. Sidney Edwards, now aged 80, was then a 47-year-old official in the RAF. In conditions of upmost secrecy, he was to play a key role in the conflict, awarded an OBE for his efforts – and believes that Chile´s support was vital to the British victory. Then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was reportedly so reliant on his intelligence

Comments:
Britain can thank Chile for this. Instead, they arrested Chile´s leader on his hospital bed. Read Maggie Thatcher´s impassioned speech on this matter. http://www.margaretthatcher.org/document/108383

Great article. Chile has their own problems with the Argies for trying to claim Chilean islands.

I have studied the Falklands war for many years and have never once heard anything abut the importance of Chile. In fact, the battles on land and at sea were completely autonomous of any land connection on the part of the British other than the islands themselves. To make a statement that the entire campaign depended on Chile is first incredible and second absurd.

Chilean assistance may have been valuable for other reasons, and possibly even helpful. But hardly indispensable to the British victory.

It´s like saying Australia was the only key to the U.S. winning over the Japanese in the Pacific in WWII. They were certainly helpful, and quite valuable. But with Australia or without her, the U.S. was going to destroy the Japanese, no matter what!

The same can be said of the Chilean assistance to Britain over the Falklands.

WASHINGTON – The number of unaccompanied undocumented children apprehended on the southern border of the United States dropped in July to 5,508, compared with more than 10,000 in both May and June, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said. DHS said it was the first time this year that the number has been lower than in the previous month. “While the decrease in apprehensions in July is good news and reflects a positive trend that we hope continues, the current numbers are still higher than the number of apprehensions for children and adults with children during past years,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh

With assistance from the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala, security forces captured seven people who were linked with the smuggling of unaccompanied minors to the United States, the prosecutor said. The network had pocketed $3 million for taking people illegally to the United States, according to Guatemala’s interior minister, Mauricio Lopez Bonilla.

Ebola Doc´s Condition Downgraded

I wonder how the Ebola doctor feels now that his humanitarian trip has cost a Christian charity much more than any services he rendered. What was the point? Whatever good Dr. Kent Brantly did in Liberia has now been overwhelmed by the more than $2 million already paid by the Christian charities Samaritan´s Purse and SIM USA just to fly him and his nurse home in separate Gulfstream jets, specially equipped with medical tents, and to care for them at one of America´s premier hospitals. (This trip may be the first real-world demonstration of the economics of Obamacare.) There´s little danger of an

Authorities in Karamay banned people wearing hijabs, niqabs, burkas, or clothing with the Islamic star and crescent symbol from taking local buses, the Karamay Daily reported. The ban also covers "large beards", the paper said, adding: "Those who do not co-operate with inspection teams will be handled by police." Primaries yesterday in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington gave us few surprises last night. Carl Cameron has the news. Just 14% approve of the job Congress is doing. Just 40% approve of the job President Obama is doing (an all-time low in this poll). 71% of Americans believe economic problems are caused by politicians inability to get things done. Yikes. When the latest battle in Gaza finally is over, as someday it will be, hard feelings could linger in the corner offices of Hollywood toward the stars who have voiced anti-Israel sentiments. But will the artists who criticize Israel military strikes -- particularly married Spaniards Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, who accused the country of "genocide" in a widely circulated July 25 letter -- suffer career backlash in a town whose power brokers tend to be strong supporters of Israel? So far, Relativity Media CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is the only studio head willing to go public with his disgust. "As the

Economics, not gangs, is driving them. Justifying the Central American surge on our unguarded border as a flight from intolerable homeland violence, the political left has attempted to paint this year´s 240,000-person influx of illegal aliens into the U.S. as a matter of refugees — and anyone who opposes the human flood tide as heartless. Their pictures of women and toddlers tug on the heartstrings. It´s rubbish. The border surge is mainly

The disgraceful video above shows how racist Russian students projected a laser image of Barack Obama eating a banana on to the US Embassy in Moscow. On 4th August, the so-called show began with a message to the US President pretending to wish him a happy 53rd birthday. A likeness of Obama with a party hat on his head then appeared, although the mouth area was made to look like that of a monkey - and a banana repeatedly moved into the mouth. The series of projections are then repeated several times. A group calling itself The Moscow Student Initiative

Even those two specific missions are more complicated than that, however. First, the U.S. humanitarian mission on Mount Sinjar began Thursday with airdrops by military aircraft, but it could require targeted airstrikes in order to “break the siege” at the base of the mountain and
