Australia admits holding 153
Sri Lankan asylum seekers at sea

CNN, by Hilary Whiteman

The Australian government has admitted it has 153 people, including children, in custody at sea while it fights a High Court challenge to any plans to send them back to Sri Lanka. Until Tuesday´s court hearing in Melbourne, the government had refused to confirm or deny it was holding the suspected asylum seekers, in line with its policy of not commenting on operational matters under "Operation Sovereign Borders." All those on board are thought to be Tamils who left the Indian port of Pondicherry on a 72-foot boat in mid-June. They include three-year-old Febrina, whose image was released by a worried relative

Comments:
How Australia deals with these things. Enjoy the seasickness, illegals.

We used to do the same thing in this country. It´s called quarantining - and it works.

On Thursday night, July 24, Xinran Ji was walking home from his study group meeting, four blocks from USC, where he was a graduate student in engineering. According to police, four teenagers, three boys and a girl, beat 24-year-old Ji with a baseball bat and a wrench. No reason. No connection. Ji managed to struggle back to his apartment, where his roommate found him the next morning, dead in a pool of blood that police traced back to the spot where he was attacked. I’ve taught at USC for 24 years. Two years after I arrived, the riots happened all

Police say several people fled from the scene of a crash in Deer Park that ended with a ruptured fuel system and damaging fire. A 2005 Chrysler side-swiped two parked cars in the 4200 block of Hegner Avenue at about 2:30 a.m., according to a news release from Deer Park police. It then rear-ended and forced a parked Ford Taurus into a parked van, which ended up pushed into a yard. The fuel system in one of the vehicles ruptured, causing it to ignite. The fire damaged three vehicles involved, according to the release. The driver and as many as two other people

Two minors fought back tears during an emotional court hearing in downtown Los Angeles as they and two adults faced capital murder charges in the beating death of a USC graduate student. Emotions ran high at Tuesday´s hearing as relatives of the group of four, age 19 to 16, sat in the audience a row way from the friends of deceased student Xinran Ji. The family of one of the defendants, 18-year-old Andrew Garcia, repeatedly told reporters that he is innocent and had left home that day to go to the beach Garcia -- along with Jonathan DelCarmen, 19; Alberto

One of the four teens charged Tuesday with murder in the beating of University of Southern California grad student Xinran Ji was an illegal immigrant, a fact that has only increased the frustration for many—including the L.A. County Supervisor—with the U.S. State Department’s delaying of visas for the slain student’s parents. “It is unconscionable that suspect Jonathan Del-Carmen-Refugio, arrested for the murder of USC graduate student Xinran Ji, entered the country illegally -- yet the victim’s parents were delayed in entering the country legally to claim their son’s body due to failures in the State Department’s visa

Scandal: A congressional panel has released new emails from top IRS official Lois Lerner, revealing a boiling hatred for the conservatives she illegally targeted. So much for claims that she was just a disinterested bureaucrat. The latest batch of emails released Wednesday by the House Ways and Means Committee contained more than a "smidgeon" of hatred and intolerance from the IRS chief of tax-exempt organizations already famous for singling out conservative Tea Party groups for enforcement scrutiny. "Great," Lerner wrote to an IRS colleague who complained about conservative radio at work. "Maybe we are through if there are that many

Pope Francis has come up with 10 tips for a happier life, and one of them is to turn off the TV during dinner. In the interview with Argentine weekly Viva, the pontiff says staying plugged-in during meals stops families from communicating with each other. The pope also says that parents have to make time to play with their children and enjoy art and culture, according to a Catholic News Service translation of the interview. The Roman Catholic leader also says people should treat Sundays like family holidays, avoid criticizing others, steer clear of religious proselytizing, and work for peace. His

Newly released emails by Lois Lerner, the former IRS official at the center of the tea party targeting scandal, show “deep animus towards conservatives, which she refers to as ‘—holes,’” according to a House committee. The emails were among a batch of new evidence the House Ways and Means Committee turned over Wednesday to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in support of an investigation of criminal wrongdoing at the IRS. “Despite the serious investigation and evidence this Committee has undertaken into the IRS’s targeting of individuals for their beliefs, there is no indication that DOJ is taking this matter seriously,” Rep. Perry Right In Warning Of

Immigration: Texas Gov. Rick Perry correctly warns that illegal immigrants are responsible for 3,000 murders and 8,000 sexual assaults in the past five years. And with the new border surge, there´s more trouble on the way. The Obama administration and its media enablers would have you believe the wave of illegal immigrants flooding the border is composed of nothing more than toddlers and their moms fleeing crime in Central America. As House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi put it, they´re "baby Jesus." But Baby Jesuses don´t go around raping and murdering, let alone overcrowding prisons, as Perry bluntly points out.

While U.S. immigration agencies grapple with a recent surge of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants at the Mexican border, the number of Haitians trying to enter the U.S. illegally through Puerto Rico has skyrocketed as well. In 2011, only 12 Haitians made the trek through the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory in the Caribbean Sea. That number had ballooned to 1,760 as of last year, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics, CBS News reports. “That’s new, and that’s something we’re trying to target,” Capt. That seems like an awfully strong word, but it is the term that distinguished law professor Glenn Reynolds, no hysteric, uses to describe the Obama administration’s oft-reported plan to issue executive amnesty to five or six million illegal immigrants in violation of federal law. Glenn’s characterization is a fair one. When a tyrant asserts the right to rule by decree in a state that has formerly been subject to the rule of law, he is commonly described as carrying out a coup d’etat. That is just what the Obama administration has done, and reportedly will continue to do. When Obama changed

Israel absolutely has the right to defend itself, and we are Israel´s staunchest ally. But you also can´t condone the killing of all of these innocent children." President Barack Obama, she said, was concerned and frustrated by the ongoing violence despite efforts by Secretary of State John Kerry to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. The BBC has enraged Muslim staff after holding a hog roast to celebrate the Commonwealth Games - under the windows of the Arabic TV service. An entire pig was spit-roasted in the courtyard of New Broadcasting House, central London, with wafts of meat drifting up to the predominantly Muslim office. Staff in the department whose religion bans them from eating pork blasted the ´horror´ at spotting the carcass on their lunch break. The event on Friday, celebrating the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, was held just days after the close of Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims for spiritual reflection.

The obsession by the Obama-Kerry administration with imposing a cease-fire on the warring parties in the Hamas-Israel war will go down in history as one of the most strategic mistakes in military history. Here is a fact the administration deliberately and maliciously ignored: In the history of modern warfare, no terrorist group has ever honored a cease-fire. Hamas has broken every cease-fire it ever said it would honor. Every single one. Even the Israel-Hamas 2012 cease fire, brokered by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, was simply agreed to by Hamas to give it an opportunity to restock its military arsenal, pressure Israel

(Snip) Russia is the world´s third-largest oil producer and second-largest natural gas producer. Europe relies heavily on Russian energy exports, complicating the West´s response to the Ukraine crisis. A federal law that aims to curb childhood obesity means that, in dozens of states, bake sales must adhere to nutrition requirements that could replace cupcakes and brownies with fruit cups and granola bars. Something rather dangerous is happening in American politics right now, all the more so for being taken for granted by many of the people watching it unfold. I do not mean the confusion of House Republicans, or the general gridlock in Congress, which are impeding legislative action on the child migrant crisis (among other matters). Incompetence and gridlock are significant problems, indeed severe ones, but they’re happening within the context of a constitutional system that allows for — and can survive — congressional inaction. What is different — more cynical and more destructive — is the course President Obama is
