Rick Perry to meet with
Obama about immigration crisis

CBS News, by Staff

After turning down "a quick handshake on the tarmac" with President Obama, Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, will sit down with the president for a "substantive meeting" on Wednesday. Mr. Obama is traveling to Austin Wednesday and Thursday for fundraisers and an event on the economy - but not to visit the U.S.-Mexico line seeing a surge of unaccompanied minors crossing the border - and had asked Perry to meet him at the airport. In a letter to the White House on Monday, Perry turned down what he called "a quick handshake on the tarmac." But Perry said he´d be willing to rearrange

I like Rick Perry a lot, but the ONLY way he should meet the illegal-in-chief is at one of the "holding cells" where ILLEGALS are being held. Let him see first hand how these "children" are begging to be "free", while caged. Instead, the current occupier of the w.h., will welcome protesters screeching for a "pathway to citizenship" outside the room they are meeting in. What a colossal waste of time! There goes the "optics". Good Grief!

What can he possibly accomplish? It´s more likely that Ricky will come out of the meeting shouting "Allahu akhbar" than Stinky will come out of it loving America.

Good for Perry not to photo op the campaigner in chief on the tarmac. Kudos to the gov if he can draw nationwide attention to this amnesty mess at the borders. Cruz is right, 95% of this dump is in hopes of amnesty from this garbage administration.

This will be some meeting considering that Obama has an established history of discounting anything that is counter to his position on the subject being discussed. The one has a set agenda that can´t be challenged. I am sure that Obama will try to lecture Governor Perry on how he is misinformed and does not understand the issues. That the damage that the uncontrolled immigration is causing to the State of Texas on the other border states as well as the rest of the U.S. is being blown all out of proportion. He just needs to trust that he knows what is best for his state and the rest of the county.

Hillary Clinton has earned at least $12 million in 16 months since leaving the State Department, a windfall at odds with her party’s call to shrink the gap between the rich and the poor. Clinton’s income since her resignation as secretary of state in February 2013 is derived mostly from her latest memoir, speeches and paid appearances at corporate retreats, according to an analysis of data compiled by Bloomberg. At least 12 organizations that previously booked President Bill Clinton -- who has been paid almost $106 million in speaking fees alone since he left the White House -- also hired his wife.

SAN ANTONIO — Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce Monday that he will activate up to 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the Rio Grande Valley, state Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, confirmed Sunday night. Perry wants these troops to bolster the work already being done with a surge of Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, said Hinojosa´s spokeswoman, Jennifer Saenz, who added that the governor gave the Valley legislative delegation notice before the planned 2 p.m. announcement on border security. “The senator understands that Perry wants this troop buildup, but is not sure what kind of federal approval he needs

Long gone, evidently, are the days when the late, great Sonny Bono, asked for his position on illegal immigration, answered: “My position? What do you mean, my position? It’s illegal!” Still, I have never understood the claim that open borders is a winning political issue for the Democrats. That is borne out in the most recent Rasmussen Reports survey: Most voters don’t want any of the young illegal immigrants who’ve recently arrived here housed in their state and say any legislation passed by Congress to deal with the problem should focus on sending them home as soon as possible. The latest Rasmussen

A majority of voters are unimpressed with Hillary Clinton’s performance as secretary of state, according to a new POLITICO poll. Just 14 percent described her time at State — she served four years ending in February 2013 — as “excellent,” while 28 percent defined it as “good.” Twenty-one percent called it “fair,” and 32 percent rated her performance “poor.” Six percent weren’t sure or declined to answer. The survey of likely voters in states and districts with the most competitive House and Senate races was conducted this month as Clinton traveled around the country to promote her new memoir, “Hard Choices,”

Something has gone wrong in our civil service. Consider some recent developments. The IRS was forced to pay the National Organization for Marriage $50,000 for leaking the group’s donor list. Tea-party organizations and donors were much more likely than others to be audited by the IRS. This misbehavior was not the work of a few rogue employees in Cincinnati. In general, the IRS stalled tea-party applications for status as 501(c)(4) groups. In December of 2012, speaking in front of a union audience, President Obama was cheered when he claimed that “right-to-work” laws – laws that allow employees to decide for themselves whether to join a union – were all about politics and had nothing to do with economics. In other words, he was advocating for forced unionism. Turns out he was incredibly wrong.(Snip for map)The Competitive Enterprise Institute just released a study analyzing countrywide economic activity from 1977-2012, and here are the key results: Wages – Median income loss per-person is $3,278, or $13,100 for a family of four, in forced-unionism states. THE PEW Research Center last week released a new survey of American attitudes in the Middle East. The results weren’t surprising. In the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, 51 percent of Americans say they sympathize more with Israel. Only 14 percent feel greater affinity for the Palestinians. Pew’s findings demonstrate the strength of pro-Israel feeling in the United States. The poll was conducted amid the current fighting with Hamas, but the bottom line hardly changed from Pew’s last survey in April, when it reported that in the 36 years it has been sampling public opinion, “sympathy toward Israel has never

Most of the news coverage of the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 has been ridiculous if not positively annoying. For days, we’ve been bored by breathless reports of “black boxes” gone missing, the accident scene “contaminated,” moved bodies, and calls for independent international investigations. Now that BFFs John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov have agreed that there needs to be — according to a Russian Foreign Ministry announcement — “an absolutely unbiased, independent and open international investigation” into the “crash” of the Malaysian airliner, we are apparently being told to relax because the “crash” is in safe

Something important is missing from the New York Times´s coverage of the war in Gaza: photographs of terrorist attacks on Israel, and pictures of Hamas fighters, tunnels, weaponry, and use of human shields. It appears the Times is silently but happily complying with a Hamas demand that the only pictures from Gaza are of civilians and never of fighters. The most influential news organization in the world is thus manufacturing an utterly false portrait of the battle—precisely the portrait that Hamas finds most helpful: embattled, victimized Gaza civilians under attack by a cruel Israeli military. At around noon on March 20 last year, Air Force One landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport for Barack Obama’s first presidential visit to Israel. The three-day trip had been billed as an Israeli reset—the newly reelected president’s bid for a clean slate with the Jewish state after four years of icy relations. Obama would lay a wreath at the tomb of Theodor Herzl, the father of Zionism. He would visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum. He would address an auditorium packed with Israeli students. At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. LOS ANGELES — Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” has died, police said. He was 86. He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday. Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press. There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday.

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here.
