Rick Perry to meet with
Obama about immigration crisis

CBS News, by Staff

After turning down "a quick handshake on the tarmac" with President Obama, Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, will sit down with the president for a "substantive meeting" on Wednesday. Mr. Obama is traveling to Austin Wednesday and Thursday for fundraisers and an event on the economy - but not to visit the U.S.-Mexico line seeing a surge of unaccompanied minors crossing the border - and had asked Perry to meet him at the airport. In a letter to the White House on Monday, Perry turned down what he called "a quick handshake on the tarmac." But Perry said he´d be willing to rearrange

I like Rick Perry a lot, but the ONLY way he should meet the illegal-in-chief is at one of the "holding cells" where ILLEGALS are being held. Let him see first hand how these "children" are begging to be "free", while caged. Instead, the current occupier of the w.h., will welcome protesters screeching for a "pathway to citizenship" outside the room they are meeting in. What a colossal waste of time! There goes the "optics". Good Grief!

Why is Ricky even bothering to meet with Stinky?

What can he possibly accomplish? It´s more likely that Ricky will come out of the meeting shouting "Allahu akhbar" than Stinky will come out of it loving America.

Good for Perry not to photo op the campaigner in chief on the tarmac. Kudos to the gov if he can draw nationwide attention to this amnesty mess at the borders. Cruz is right, 95% of this dump is in hopes of amnesty from this garbage administration.

This will be some meeting considering that Obama has an established history of discounting anything that is counter to his position on the subject being discussed. The one has a set agenda that can´t be challenged. I am sure that Obama will try to lecture Governor Perry on how he is misinformed and does not understand the issues. That the damage that the uncontrolled immigration is causing to the State of Texas on the other border states as well as the rest of the U.S. is being blown all out of proportion. He just needs to trust that he knows what is best for his state and the rest of the county.

U.S. military engagement on Islamic State may alter the political calculus for this year’s midterms, but the potential impacts may reach beyond the next few months and into 2016, thanks to a shift among tea party supporters. In September 2013, 64% of tea party supporters said they believed taking military action against “the Syrian government” was not in the national interest. In this latest survey, 68% of tea party supporters said they believe talking military action against “ISIS in Iraq and Syria” is in the national interest. That shift is much bigger than the change among the county as a whole.

Why the Confederacy Lost

There is an old story, probably apocryphal, about a meeting of the Southern Historical Society in the years after the Civil War. The topic was Gettysburg — what mistakes, large or small, did the Confederates make that led to the Southern defeat? The debate was heated and furious. Tempers were at the boiling point. Finally, one of the participants turned to George Pickett of “Pickett’s Charge” fame. “George,” he said, “you were there. Why did we lose the battle?” to which Pickett replied, “I always thought the Yankees had something to do with it.” This anecdote reflects a historiographical debate about

By now, the video’s gone viral: Sen. On just about every level, the episode is sad, especially if it’s used to sharpen divisions among people who have much to gain from coming together. In fact, the whole aim of In Defense of Christians — host of the conference where Cruz spoke — is to unite the disparate Mideast religious communities in solidarity with the Christian victims of Islamist extremism. That’s no easy task. Cruz was asked to

At a Labor Day rally in Milwaukee, President Obama turned the limelight on himself, approvingly and inaccurately. “By almost every measure,” he declared, “the American economy and the American workers are better off than when I took office.” In contrast to Mr. Obama’s self-congratulatory assertion, the Census Bureau reports that median household income in the United States, adjusted for inflation, is down by more than $2,000 since Obama’s first inauguration in January 2009. Additionally, as an indicator of the economic downturn, a sixth of the U.S. population is currently receiving food stamps, an increase in the

Austin - A dispute over Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis´ book tour intensified Thursday as her Republican opponent, Greg Abbott, accused her in a formal complaint of violating state election laws. In a filing with the Texas Ethics Commission, Abbott campaign manager Wayne Hamilton alleges that Davis, a state senator from Fort Worth, "converted political contributions to her personal use" in violation of state law. The state ethics commission investigates alleged ethics violations by officeholders and candidates, and can levy fines or refer charges against violators if complaints are validated.

Supporters of President Barack Obama, such as one of his campaign donors Robert Deitrick, an Ohio financial advisor often quoted in Forbes and elsewhere, insist that the Obama economy has been much more robust than Ronald Reagan’s. Are they right? Let’s look at some numbers. President Reagan entered office in a period of high inflation which was stamped out by high interest rates that in turn led to the 1982 recession. His job-creation record after that may fairly be termed outstanding: nearly 20 million more Americans were employed when he left office than when the recession ended. Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. Body odour is among 52 criteria that officials at San Diego International Airport use to judge taxi drivers. Cabbies say that smacks of prejudice and discrimination. It does discriminate between cabbies who smell like an open sewer and those who don’t. It further prejudges what a good smell is.
