Tinseltown wilting under historic
box office lows

New York Post, by Claire Atkinson

Welcome to the summer doldrums. Moviegoers have put Tinseltown on the grill this summer. After two spectacular record-breaking years, the July Fourth weekend’s box office just heaped on more summer misery at the multiplex. The holiday weekend saw a gigantic drop of 46 percent in box-office receipts for the top 12 movies, with little beyond “Transformers” drawing a crowd. Some of the publicly traded cinema companies fell Monday on the news. Boxofficemojo.com reports that total box-office take was $120.6 million; the last time it was that low was in 1999, when “South Park” was released and the July Fourth box-office

Re Transformers ... Someone tweeted a couple of days ago: Instead of going to see Transformers 4 I had the crazy guy who lives at the dump throw lawnmower parts and scream at me for three hours.

Those Hollywood liberals cheered the passage of Obamacare but they may come to regret it. Now that people are forced to pay more for health care they will have to cut back elsewhere and movies will be at the top of the list.

For the most part, movies have lost their entertainment value, so why pay to endure them? Most movies today are poorly written, and the cinematography and editing are awful. They used to tell a good story, which sadly, is a rarity these days.

Hollywood may never wake up to the fact that half of America isn´t keen on the idea of throwing away money to see their warped view of America, acted out by "stars" with a warped view of America. I hope they lose more ground next year.

Last time I saw a movie in a theater people were talking out loud and it was impossible to hear the soundtrack. I see new movies when they make it to cable or DVD. Batman, Spiderman, Transformers, etc. doesn´t do much for me. Godzilla? Even the one back in the 60s was awful. The only thing I miss is movie theater popcorn. It was delicious and nothing you can get in a store tastes like it. Asked a guy at the mall if I could just go in to buy popcorn but he told me I´d have to buy a movie ticket.

Transformers was too long and script was not interesting.
Jump 22 was fun-good script and actors.
As to rest of Hollywood- refuse to see movies with Clooney, Streep, Damon et al.
They seem to think that the " fans""Will pay to fund their leftist bs that is destroying America.
California politicians raise taxes and jobs flee.
Spielberg, Katzenberg Weinstein et al keep funneling money to Obama and his trannywife as he shuts down the roads and businesses suffer.
Enough.
The real drama is in Murietta as Obama continues his War on America.

Not to mention the absurd ticket prices. When I watch the kinds of people going into our local theatre, I can´t help thinking they must have better things on which to spend that cash. But I guess that´s Hollywood´s game.

We refuse to reward Hollywood for creating the filth and pure evil in their minds into movies. Ultimately it goes into the hearts and minds of our children, thus destroys this country.....as we can now all see for ourselves. AND IF they create Bible movies........you can bet on it that they will infect it with their Leftist...Commie views to further infect the minds of people. No, IF we do want to see one of their movies....we get it at Red Box for a dollar.

In its heyday, Hollywood drew its screenplays and storylines from great books or actual events. Today the storylines are from comic books. Everybody is not that dumb. And the ´stars´ should keep their leftist politics to themselves. TCM is the only place to see movies with storylines, dialogue, and - thankfully -- a dearth of illogical, insanely loud, and silly special effects.

About time reality is catching up to these people. They are self-indulgent and make movies they want to see. The forgotten element is those who go to movies. Most go to be entertained. No such thing in movies anymore. It all has a message geared to liberals, actors who are terrible at the job and most of it is computer graphics. I wait for them to show up in Netflix. Saw one last weekend, Hours, and it was really good. Most, tho, I can´t even finish.

for Christians:

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts. Ro 6

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. 1 John 2

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Col 3

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Phill 4

13The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. 14For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Eccl 12

It’s nice to see Governor Cuomo make at this hour of crisis a visit to Jerusalem. He pointedly demurred from a visit with the Palestinian Arabs, saying his mission was to show solidarity with the Jewish state. It is a good, solid rejection of moral equivalency — and makes us wonder whether he’s the man to take on the left-wing of his own party. The fact is that the Obama years are the period in which the Democratic Party has emerged firmly as less sympathetic to Israel than the Republicans. This was well marked by the latest poll from Pew.

One after another, lawsuits were setting them up and courts were knocking them down. Following last year’s Supreme Court ruling that rejected the Defense of Marriage Act as unconstitutional, state and federal courts nationwide have ruled against gay marriage bans from coast to coast. It was a remarkable, uninterrupted streak of success for civil-rights proponents, spanning more than two dozen courts. Yesterday, however, we learned that the streak was broken. For the first time in nearly fourteen months, a state’s ban on same-sex marriage has withstood a constitutional challenge in court. A state judge in Tennessee ruled last week that “neither

They say a prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and this always seemed like hyperbole, until Friday night a Texas grand jury announced an indictment of governor Rick Perry. The “crime” for which Perry faces a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison is vetoing funding for a state agency. The conventions of reporting — which treat the fact of an indictment as the primary news, and its merit as a secondary analytic question — make it difficult for people reading the news to grasp just how farfetched this indictment is.
