Obama Could End the Border
Crisis Tomorrow if He Wanted

Townhall, by Conn Carroll

President Obama may have described the waves of tens of thousands of migrant families flooding the southern border as a "humanitarian crisis," but it is a humanitarian crisis entirely of his own creation and one which he could end tomorrow if he wanted to. The Los Angeles Times reports: President Obama and his aides have repeatedly sought to dispel the rumors driving thousands of children and teens from Central America to cross the U.S. border each month with the expectation they will be given a permiso and allowed to stay. But under the Obama administration, those reports have proved increasingly true. The number

There are military bases all over the three border states. We need to send troops and tanks to the border with permission to use their weapons as needed. We are being invaded - isn´t that why we have a military? To protect our sovereignty?

A question I have is one what premise, visa, or special provision is Mexico allowing these illegals pass through their territory? Do they have to sign a contract that they will get across the border? Where do they go if they can´t get in the US?

President Barack Obama, who in his political dotage is enthusiastically getting in touch with his inner Otto von Bismarck to such an extent that we half expect him to start sporting a walrus mustache and a pickelhaube, on Saturday treated the ailing republic to another lecture on the theme of “economic patriotism,” by which he means an arrangement under which companies adopt tax strategies that maximize the amount of money they send to President Obama and his colleagues to dispose of as they see fit. He demanded that companies “embrace an economic patriotism,” presumably one defined by Barack Obama, rather

With no fanfare—well, maybe a little fanfare—House Republicans by the end of this week will officially have a brand new majority leader, a new majority whip, and just 12 scheduled legislative days remaining before it´s time to pick yet another new slate of leaders. This all happens, technically, after the stroke of midnight Thursday, commemorated in a notification by Republicans to the House clerk declaring that as of Aug. 1, Kevin McCarthy is the majority leader and Steve Scalise is the new majority whip. No parade. No ticker tape. Meanwhile, the current majority leader, Eric Cantor, doesn´t completely turn into a pumpkin. But

When we think of politicians, we tend to think (or at least hope) that they are somewhat intelligent people. However, sometimes even the most intelligent people have some not-so-intelligent moments. Here are 18 of them: 1.) “If a president of the United States ever lied to the American people he should resign.” – President Bill Clinton (D). 2.) “The Gulf War was like teenage sex. We got in too soon and out too soon.” - Senator Tom Harkin (D). 3.) “I don’t understand how they can call me anti-Latino when I’ve made four movies in Mexico.” – former California Gov.

For millions of black Americans, Barack Obama´s legacy is not going to be Obamacare, nor his decision to move troops out of Iraq, nor what he does about immigration. No, it will be the image of him as a black father - of him, for example, standing at the White House and declaring, after the 2012 racially charged killing of black teenager Trayvon Martin, "this could have been my son." For all the accusations that Obama waffles and wavers when it comes to controversial issues affecting African Americans, there is a widespread perception of him as the model of black fatherhood. It

When the public is more afraid of the cops than the bad guys, the system is broken. There’s reason for some law-abiding Americans to worry about their pocketbook becoming lighter after a visit from the lawman. Bonnie and Clyde never pretended to be anything but robbers. A 64-year-old Texas woman, for example, was accused of being a drug dealer simply because she was carrying cash in her pickup truck from the sale of her land. The cops took her money, though she had never been convicted of a crime in her life. She had to sue in federal court to get all of her money back. A family grocery store in Michigan was threatened by the IRS

A jury awards a woman $23 billion. The Constitution said nothing about this. Last week, a jury of her peers awarded a lone human, Cynthia Robinson, over $23.6 billion to punish a cigarette company for the death of her husband. And poof, they were no longer her peers—that is, unless they happened to be the only jury in history to be composed entirely of multi-billionaires. The rest of America—depending on its feelings about corporate malfeasance versus individual responsibility—was cornered into only one of two positions when it heard the exorbitant pile of punitive damages the defendant, RJ Reynolds, was told to pony

Garlock Sealing Technologies, founded in 1887, originally produced seals for rods in locomotive steam engines. Over the years, it used asbestos in gaskets and valves. When the age of asbestos lawsuits began, it was deluged with nearly a million claims. Although Garlock defended such cases for years -- at times successfully -- the company succumbed in 2010 and entered bankruptcy with 100,000 asbestos and 4,000 mesothelioma claims pending. Garlock´s products never represented a high-risk of asbestos exposure, as some others do. George Hodges, the federal judge presiding over the bankruptcy, noted that Garlock products “resulted in a relatively low exposure to

Next year, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will decide whether or not to list the sage grouse as an endangered species. It has the potential to be a watershed moment, and not just for the bird, whose numbers have been in steady decline for a half-century. Wyoming’s economy is built on the sagebrush steppes sage grouse call home. Some 15.3 million acres, or 25 percent of the state, is considered important habitat for the bird. Ranchers rely on these windswept lands to graze their cattle. Oil, gas and mining companies drill holes in the dusty surface to access the rich treasure

Eating ice cream is the summer heat is one of life´s great feats, but is it really ice cream if it doesn’t melt? Christie Watson of Cincinnati had been treating her kids to ice cream sandwiches from Walmart but one morning she noticed an uneaten sandwich left outside had barely melted overnight in the 80 degree weather. "I thought that´s quite weird," Watson told local station WCPO 9. "So I looked at the box, and it doesn´t say artificial ice cream. It says ice cream." The ferocity of Friday’s unanimous rejection by the Israeli government of Secretary of State John Kerry’s cease was kept quiet to prevent a formal rupture of relations between the two erstwhile allies, reports Israel’s Channel 2 Television. The popular and widely-watched Saturday evening newscast quotes several unnamed high officials in the Israeli government who claimed that Kerry’s cease fire proposal represented a “complete cave-in” to Hamas’s demands for an end to fighting in its war against Israel. A statement put out today by President Barack Obama on the occasion of a religious holiday is raising some eyebrows. The holiday is a Muslim one called "Eid-al-Fitr" and the statement says: his last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease. In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to

President Obama appears poised to take executive action that would legalize as many as 5 million illegal immigrant parents of U.S.-born children, a prospect that riles local immigration critics and adds a new dimension to concern about swelling immigrant populations in states like Massachusetts eyed as hosting sites for thousands of children who crossed the border unaccompanied. The Associated Press reported yesterday White House officials are laying the groundwork for an executive order that would automatically legalize roughly 5 million of an estimated 11 million people who have entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas.

When The Times of Israel’s Avi Issacharoff first reported the content of John Kerry’s ceasefire proposal on Friday afternoon, I wondered if something had gotten lost in translation. It seemed inconceivable that the American secretary of state would have drafted an initiative that, as a priority, did not require the dismantling of Hamas’s rocket arsenal and network of tunnels dug under the Israeli border. Yet the reported text did not address these issues at all, nor call for the demilitarization of Gaza. It seemed inconceivable that the secretary’s initiative would specify the need to address Hamas’s demands for a lifting of

Former presidential nominee Mitt Romney would win the popular vote if a rematch of the 2012 election against President Obama were held today, a CNN/ORC poll has revealed. According to the poll, if the 2012 election were held again today, Romney would receive 53% of the popular vote, and Mr. Obama would receive 44%, CNN reported. Obama beat Romney 51%-47% in the actual election. The poll said, however, that the former Massachusetts governor would lose against Hillary Clinton by double digits in a hypothetical election. Mrs. Clinton would earn 55% of the vote, with Mr. Romney at 42%.

A leading drug policy researcher, David Murray, has a must-read piece up at the Hudson Institute website, "Comparing Marijuana and Alcohol: Seriously." Murray´s article is a devastating deconstruction of claims that marijuana is relatively safe, or at least safer than alcohol. And, as he points out, it thereby undermines much of the basis of the New York Times´s blithely irresponsible editorial endorsement of marijuana legalization. Read Murray´s whole piece. Here are highlights: It’s a remarkable weekend when one finds the Grey Lady arguing for state’s rights, and worrying huffily about arbitrary Presidential powers. As she also did with NBC’s Brian Williams, who interviewed Clinton after she was hired by the network as a “special correspondent” — albeit one with no journalism experience. The Catholic Church—through the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Migration—both paved the road for Barack Hussein Obama’s ultimate takeover of Free West society and continues to actively enable the Fundamental Transformation of America by sinking the US in a tsunami of illegal aliens. In coming to Obama’s aid in erasing forever America’s borders, the bishops sold the USA out, including its Catholics, for the proverbial 30 pieces of silver. In biblical terms, Obama and the Catholic bishops—who both birthed his progress to the seat of power and back him on his Fundamental Transformation mission—are in in league with the devil.

President Barack Obama is practically weepy at the thought of his daughter Malia going off to college, a milestone many months away that is already on his mind. Malia barely reached up to her father´s shoulders when they moved to the White House nearly six years ago with her mother, little sister and grandmother. At 16, she stands nearly as tall as her 6-foot-1 dad and is visiting college campuses in preparation for that bittersweet day in the fall of 2016 when she trades her White House bedroom for a dorm.
