The Health Care Waiting Game
New York Times, by Elisabeth Rosenthal

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 7/7/2014 9:48:14 AM

ONE small consolation of our high-priced health care system — our $2.7 trillion collective medical bill — has been the notion that at least we get medical attention quickly. Americans look down on national health systems like Canada’s and Britain’s because of their notorious waiting lists. In recent weeks, the Veterans Affairs hospitals have been pilloried for long patient wait times, with top officials losing their jobs. Yet there is emerging evidence that lengthy waits to get a doctor’s appointment have become the norm in many parts of American medicine, particularly for general doctors but also for specialists. And that includes patients

In my attempt to find a new doctor, the snotty receptionist said that there is a 6 month waiting list for new patients even if they are currently sick.
I had the FREEDOM to find a new doctor. This one and the staff are nice.

"And those waits are likely to get longer as the Affordable Care Act brings tens of millions of newly insured patients into a system that is often already poorly equipped to provide basic care."

Tch, tch, Ms. Rosenthal. You casually mentioned the ACA in the next to last paragraph and then implied that the problems it is causing were already existing. Shame, shame.

A lot of docs in my area aren´t taking new patients but that´s happening for several different reasons.

Other than that if I were to go to my local hospital or doctor with something serious that required quick action I would be immediately cared for.

This woman is trying to imply that the single-payer idea is ok and the VA no worse than private care.

Sen. Marco Rubio argued that the nation´s immigration laws need to be overhauled and said that Hillary Clinton would be a flawed candidate for president. "I just think she´s a 20th century candidate," he said. "I think she does not offer an agenda for moving America forward in the 21st century, at least not up till now." The Florida Republican made his comments in the second half of a two-part interview with Morning Edition host Steve Inskeep on Tuesday. Rubio also said he will make a decision about whether to run for president himself sometime within the next few months.

With the D.C. Circuit Court’s decision today that Obamacare, as written, doesn’t authorize the provision of subsidies on federal health-care exchanges — it just does so for those established by states — residents of 36 states may stop receiving insurance subsidies under the law. President Obama could well ignore the decision, which he asserts is perfectly legal, but he’ll also certainly appeal it — either to an en banc hearing of the D.C. Circuit Court (more judges than the three that just heard it) or to the Supreme Court. If the president chooses to ignore the ruling, we can bet

Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling (PPP) has released a new poll of the North Carolina Senate race, featuring Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan squaring off against Republican state house speaker Thom Tillis, with ostensibly good news for the Democrat: She’s up seven points and expanded on her lead. Their headline: “Hagan continues to grow lead.” But dig a little deeper and the story is mixed for the Democrat. Hagan’s seven-point lead is due largely to the libertarian candidate, who is polling 8 percent. In no cycle since 1986 has the libertarian pulled more than 3.4 percent in North Carolina; on

DETROIT—Every time she’s asked, Sen. Elizabeth Warren gives the same frustrated answer. No. Nope. She is not running for president. She has literally rolled her eyes at the question. She’s offered to “add an exclamation point.” She’s even signed a letter calling on Hillary Clinton, who leads polls of Democrats by up to 50 points, to run for president. And yet there they were on Friday morning, the people who wanted Warren to reconsider. Days before this year’s Netroots Nation conference, the annual gathering of the online left, an Obama campaign veteran launched a draft campaign called Ready for Warren.

When President Obama wraps up his 16-day summer break next month on Martha´s Vineyard, Mass., he will have taken all or part of 141 days of vacation, time split between summers on the island, winters in his native Hawaii and birthday weekends at his Chicago home. Obama has been criticized for taking costly and lengthy vacations, especially compared to the short trips most Americans take. The U.S. Travel Association told Secrets that the average American vacation lasts just 3.7 days. But his 141 days out of Washington are far less than the 378 former President George W. He scolded the Russian-backed, Russian-trained and Russian-armed separatists, who have been busy “removing bodies from the crash site, oftentimes without the care that we would normally expect from a tragedy like this,” adding: “This is the kind of behavior that has no place in the community of nations.” And he warned that, “If Russia continues to violate Ukraine’s sovereignty .

That this is true is obvious to all except Putin’s propaganda machine that is frantically churning out absurd conspiracy theories, while Putin lies low and limits himself to vague claims of Ukrainian guilt. Feinstein may not understand that Putin’s “manning up” could spell the end of his regime and he can’t admit the truth. If you think President Obama’s administration has unraveled, the denouement could be just beginning. Its real consequence would come when congressional Democrats, who have remained extremely loyal to the president, begin to split from him. If they do — and November election losses could drive that — America could see a presidency come apart. The latest nationwide Quinnipiac poll shows Mr. Obama’s deepening trouble. A plurality of respondents (45 percent) said the country would have been better off if Mitt Romney had won in 2012, and Mr. Obama rated first (33 percent) in voting for America’s worst post-World War II

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop

WASHINGTON —Polarization and partisanship are a plague on American politics. Political scientists have found that the two parties have each grown more ideologically homogeneous since the 1970s. The Senate hasn’t been so polarized since Reconstruction; the House has not been so divided since around 1900. As measured by laws passed, the current Congress is on track to be among the least productive in our republic’s history. How did this happen? One of the main causes has not gotten enough attention: the party primary system. The reasons behind the shocking primary defeat last month of Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, who
