The liberal problem with liking America
New York Post, by Jonah Goldberg

Original Article

You wouldn’t think, five years into the Obama presidency, that so many liberal Americans wouldn’t like America. A new Pew survey found that 44 percent of Americans don’t often feel pride in being an American, and only 28 percent said that America is the greatest country in the world. Respondents who “often feel proud to be American” were overwhelmingly conservative (from 72 percent to 81 percent depending on the kind of conservative). A majority (60 percent) of “solid liberals” said they don’t often feel proud to be an American. The polling data only proves what has been obvious for a

I think this Goldberg guy might be on to something.
But to expand, my personal theory holds that there just might be a correlation between the (deliberate) dissolution of the nuclear family and the transference of that attendant hatred of fatherlessness toward our country..

It was just a few months ago when the Republican Study Committee, a group of far-right House GOP lawmaker, invited former Vice President Dick Cheney to Capitol Hill to complain about President Obama for a while. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), now a member of the House GOP leadership, said at the time, in reference to Cheney, “He’s got a lot of credibility when it comes to talking about foreign policy.” I don’t think he was kidding. Apparently, this thinking remains quite pervasive among GOP lawmakers, who keep extending invitations to Cheney, his spectacular failures and incompetence notwithstanding. The Washington Post

In 2014 the world has grown suddenly weary of Barack Obama. The president’s sorrows are coming not as single spies but in battalions. Domestically, the economic recovery remains uncertain; the Affordable Care Act is at risk; gun control is going nowhere. The prospects of immigration reform or action on climate change seem dim. Internationally, Iraq and Syria are bloodbaths; the black-flagged armies of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, known as Isis, are on the march; Israelis and Palestinians are at each other’s throats; Vladimir Putin’s creatures are shooting civilian airliners down from the sky; and the celebrated

Conditions in Washington will “be even worse” if Democrats lose the midterm elections, first lady Michelle Obama warned supporters at a voter registration event on Monday in Atlanta. “Frankly, if we lose these midterm elections, it’s going to be a whole lot harder to finish what we started,” the first lady said, predicting “behavior that just wastes time and wastes taxpayer dollars.” “We’ll just see more conflict and more obstruction, more lawsuits and talk about impeachment, more votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or even shut the government down,” she said. The first lady went on to attribute opposition

The leading architect of the Iraq War will be on Capitol Hill Tuesday for a private chat with House Republicans, just as Congress is grappling again with how involved the United States should be in the region’s snowballing unrest. Yes, that would be former Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the war’s most ardent defenders to this day. He was invited by the campaign arm of the Republicans to come speak at the first GOP weekly conference meeting since Congress’ five-week break, a House GOP official confirmed to the Loop. Warren said the vote is necessary because the Supreme Court has made it possible for the wealthiest to “buy elections.” She pointed out that during the 2012 election, 32 wealthy people contributed the same amount as 3.7 million people

(Snip) However the basic outlines of the strategy itself have emerged from information already available to the press. A Los Angeles Times story suggests that Obama will rely on proxies to fight ISIS at three levels: on the ground, within the region and in the West. Kerry invokes comparisons to the Sunni Awakening, seeking to recall the days when al-Qaeda in Iraq was beaten by George Bush. Obama plans to organize the Sunni Arabs to fight ISIS.

Speaking at an event on business taxes at the Urban Institute in Washington, Lew placed the responsibility on Congress to address so-called tax inversions, but said that the administration was prepared to step in if lawmakers don´t move quickly enough. Inversions are tax maneuvers in which corporations buy firms in low-tax countries in order to place their headquarters in that country. Such deals have grown in number in recent months, with
