It´s happening: Border Patrol

immigrant flood

Along with piteous pictures of children flooding across our borders and being distributed across the country courtesy of US taxpayers come disease vectors. Maybe flying them around to various parts of the country isn’t the smartest idea. NBC News reports: A border patrol agent was diagnosed with scabies after processing undocumented immigrants in Otay Mesa, California, the agent´s union representative said. Ronald Zermeno, health and safety director for the National Border Control Council union, said the agent told him that he observed several people with open sores while screening them in preparation to be released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The malware that caused a major breach for Target has struck again. Authorities are investigating the malware, known as "Backoff" that may have been found on the computer systems of some Dairy Queen restaurants. “We have been working on the situation for a couple of days," said Dean Peters, media spokesman for the Minneapolis-based fast-food chain. "The protection of customer data is a top priority for us and our franchisees, and we take it seriously. We, like many other companies, were recently notified that customer data at a limited number of stores may be at risk, due to the widespread

BLOOMFIELD — The family of the man Bloomfield police fatally shot said on Thursday that the officers rushed onto the property without knocking on the door and did not immediately provide medical assistance to the wounded man, who was unarmed. Police said they were responding to a domestic dispute call on Wednesday afternoon and were confronted by a man with a deadly weapon. John J. Rogers, of Bloomfield, was pronounced dead late Wednesday morning in the San Juan Regional Medical Center emergency room. A police spokesman said the officers were not injured. BLOOMFIELD — City councilors unanimously voted on Wednesday to appeal a federal judge´s ruling stating a monument at City Hall inscribed with the Ten Commandments is unconstitutional. The city plans to appeal the judge´s decision to a three-judge panel with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. The 10th Circuit has territorial jurisdiction in six states — New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Senior U.S. District Judge James A. Parker issued his ruling in the case on Aug. 7. In it, he stated the monument constitutes government speech and endorses a religion. He ordered the monument to

In June, in a sparsely populated county in northern New Mexico, a primary election surprisingly unseated an incumbent County Commissioner. No one seemed to notice. But, apparently, high-ranking Democrats to the north were paying attention. The northern New Mexico county is Mora. The high-ranking Democrats: from Colorado. The election upset was about Mora County´s oil-and-gas drilling ban. In April 2013, the Mora County Commission voted, 2 to 1, and passed the first-in-the-nation county-wide ban on all oil-and-gas drilling. It was spearheaded by Commission Chairman John Olivas—an environmental activist. Since then, two lawsuits have been filed against the little county because

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Demonstrators say they’re planning another protest at an Albuquerque Hobby Lobby. They’re protesting a U.S. Supreme Court decision made last month. The court says Hobby Lobby does not have to provide birth control coverage to employees. That’s because it violates the religious beliefs of the family who owns the privately-held company. The rally is set to take place at the store on Wyoming this evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth played his first Major League Baseball game 100 years ago Friday, marking the beginning of a legendary career and legacy that lasted decades. One hundred years after Ruth took to the Fenway Park mound and tossed seven innings against the Cleveland Naps, he is still known to any Pee Wee league player trying to break in a glove today as simply, "The Babe." Ruth, who was 19 and, according to one teammate, looked like a "big overgrown pea" at the start of the game, went on to play for 22 years, 15 of those with the

When the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” passed, the end of doctor-patient confidentiality was predictable -- but we could not have expected it to happen this soon. ObamaCare, with the aid of hospitals, insurers, banks, and private data managers, is initiating a program to track store and credit card purchases to see if people are telling the truth about their lifestyle choices. Some troubling realities have been revealed in a recent Bloomberg article. First, the idea that the hospitals, at government direction, are doing it for our own good so it’s okay. It reminds me of Reagan’s most terrifying

First Lady Michelle Obama has made healthy eating and exercise her signature issue. But, a recent study published by the Sage Journal found that her “elitist” advice actually “shames poor and middle class mothers.” The College Fix added that the study found that Michelle Obama’s healthy eating program is also sexist. It’s also sexist, the study’s authors suggest, noting that “intentionally or not, it places the burden of a healthy home-cooked meal on women.” Sage Journals published the study by North Carolina researchers Sarah Bowen, Sinikka Elliott and Joslyn Brenton. President Barack Obama unveiled his plan to tackle the Ebola crisis in West Africa on Tuesday, promising to do far more to tackle the deadly virus he said could result in "hundreds of thousands of people infected" without US intervention. "More than 2,400 men, women, and children are known to have died and we strongly suspect that the actual death toll is higher than that," Obama said in a speech at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. "Hospitals, clinics, and the few treatment centers that do exist have been completely overwhelmed." The president was particularly dire

He is best known for his 1971 recording of Christian hymn Morning Has Broken, a top 10 hit in both the UK and US. Stevens had a number of other hits during

Democrats are now (very slightly) favored to hold the Senate majority on Nov. 4, according to Election Lab, the Post´s statistical model of the 2014 midterm elections. Election Lab puts Democrats´ chances of retaining their majority at 51 percent -- a huge change from even a few months ago when the model predicted that Republicans had a better than 80 percent chance of winning the six seats they need to take control. (Worth noting: When the model showed Republicans as overwhelming favorites, our model builders -- led by George Washington University´s John Sides -- warned that the model could and

The White House will announce on Tuesday a series of voluntary commitments by some of the country’s largest chemical firms and retailers to move rapidly away from R-134a and similar compounds used in nearly every office, home and automobile in the country, according to current and former U.S. officials familiar with the effort. Bill Clinton never inhaled. Rush Limbaugh says he never smoked it. Marco Rubio won´t answer whether he ever did smoke pot but Sarah Palin admitted she smoked it in her youth and didn´t like it. Those pushing to have more states legalize marijuana consider this drug rather harmless, medically beneficial and liberal politicians consider this issue one that will attract voters. I don´t blame Rubio for not discussing whether he indulged n his youth or not. He is a public official with young children and carries a different responsibility than the rest of us. On Monday, the 50-year-old politician was photographed by paparazzi looking fresh-faced without any cosmetics on. But instead of getting mad about the slyly snapped no-makeup shots, the former Alaska governor took to Facebook to joke about the incident. "Feel bad for the poor paparazzi hounding outside my truck this morning hoping to capture a tabloid ‘exclusive´ of me coming out of Bikram Hot Yoga.
