It´s happening: Border Patrol
personnel infected by illegal
immigrant flood

Along with piteous pictures of children flooding across our borders and being distributed across the country courtesy of US taxpayers come disease vectors. Maybe flying them around to various parts of the country isn’t the smartest idea. NBC News reports: A border patrol agent was diagnosed with scabies after processing undocumented immigrants in Otay Mesa, California, the agent´s union representative said. Ronald Zermeno, health and safety director for the National Border Control Council union, said the agent told him that he observed several people with open sores while screening them in preparation to be released to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

FARMINGTON — Four regional sheriffs associations and the National Sheriffs´ Association expressed opposition to "outright amnesty" for immigrants who enter the country illegally in a statement drafted earlier this month in Santa Fe. The associations also requested additional federal funding for new detainment centers and programs dedicated to identifying and removing felons who have entered the country illegally, and legislation that would require interagency cooperation and information sharing. "Current border security measures have little effect on the smuggling and trafficking of humans, contraband, and illegal drugs moving across our borders, forcing local law enforcement to prepare for and respond to

The malware that caused a major breach for Target has struck again. Authorities are investigating the malware, known as "Backoff" that may have been found on the computer systems of some Dairy Queen restaurants. “We have been working on the situation for a couple of days," said Dean Peters, media spokesman for the Minneapolis-based fast-food chain. "The protection of customer data is a top priority for us and our franchisees, and we take it seriously. We, like many other companies, were recently notified that customer data at a limited number of stores may be at risk, due to the widespread

BLOOMFIELD — The family of the man Bloomfield police fatally shot said on Thursday that the officers rushed onto the property without knocking on the door and did not immediately provide medical assistance to the wounded man, who was unarmed. Police said they were responding to a domestic dispute call on Wednesday afternoon and were confronted by a man with a deadly weapon. John J. Rogers, of Bloomfield, was pronounced dead late Wednesday morning in the San Juan Regional Medical Center emergency room. A police spokesman said the officers were not injured. BLOOMFIELD — City councilors unanimously voted on Wednesday to appeal a federal judge´s ruling stating a monument at City Hall inscribed with the Ten Commandments is unconstitutional. The city plans to appeal the judge´s decision to a three-judge panel with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. The 10th Circuit has territorial jurisdiction in six states — New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. Senior U.S. District Judge James A. Parker issued his ruling in the case on Aug. 7. In it, he stated the monument constitutes government speech and endorses a religion. He ordered the monument to

In June, in a sparsely populated county in northern New Mexico, a primary election surprisingly unseated an incumbent County Commissioner. No one seemed to notice. But, apparently, high-ranking Democrats to the north were paying attention. The northern New Mexico county is Mora. The high-ranking Democrats: from Colorado. The election upset was about Mora County´s oil-and-gas drilling ban. In April 2013, the Mora County Commission voted, 2 to 1, and passed the first-in-the-nation county-wide ban on all oil-and-gas drilling. It was spearheaded by Commission Chairman John Olivas—an environmental activist. Since then, two lawsuits have been filed against the little county because

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Demonstrators say they’re planning another protest at an Albuquerque Hobby Lobby. They’re protesting a U.S. Supreme Court decision made last month. The court says Hobby Lobby does not have to provide birth control coverage to employees. That’s because it violates the religious beliefs of the family who owns the privately-held company. The rally is set to take place at the store on Wyoming this evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

George Herman “Babe” Ruth played his first Major League Baseball game 100 years ago Friday, marking the beginning of a legendary career and legacy that lasted decades. One hundred years after Ruth took to the Fenway Park mound and tossed seven innings against the Cleveland Naps, he is still known to any Pee Wee league player trying to break in a glove today as simply, "The Babe." Ruth, who was 19 and, according to one teammate, looked like a "big overgrown pea" at the start of the game, went on to play for 22 years, 15 of those with the

When the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” passed, the end of doctor-patient confidentiality was predictable -- but we could not have expected it to happen this soon. ObamaCare, with the aid of hospitals, insurers, banks, and private data managers, is initiating a program to track store and credit card purchases to see if people are telling the truth about their lifestyle choices. Some troubling realities have been revealed in a recent Bloomberg article. First, the idea that the hospitals, at government direction, are doing it for our own good so it’s okay. President Barack Obama returned a formal military salute with a one-handed coffee-cup salute Tuesday, only a few hours after he dispatched the nation’s military on their attack mission into northern Syria. White House aides posted the sloppy salute video on Instagram. The commander in chief offered the coffee-cup salute when he disembarked from his U.S. Marine Corps helicopter in New York, as he made his way to the United Nations General Assembly. “President Obama just landed in New York for #UNGA2014,” says the caption. The salute is “the most important of all military courtesies,” says a manual for Marine Corps officer candidates. “In some situations,

Eric Holder Jr., the nation´s first black U.S. attorney general, is preparing to announce his resignation Thursday after a tumultuous tenure marked by civil rights advances, national security threats, reforms to the criminal justice system and five and a half years of fights with Republicans in Congress. Two sources familiar with the decision tell NPR that Holder, 63, intends to leave the Justice Department as soon as his successor is confirmed, a process that could run through 2014 and even into next year. A former U.S. government official says Holder has been increasingly "adamant" about his desire to leave soon

Seattle Public Utilities requested the new rules after falling short of its recycling goals of 60 percent of trash by 2015, according to the Times. The recycling rate in

President Barack Obama saluted a pair of United States Marines on Tuesday while holding what appeared to be a styrofoam cup in his saluting hand, a breach of military regulations that won´t win him fans among veterans and servicemen. Obama is known for drinking tea, not coffee, when he travels, especially before delivering speeches. His quasi-saluting gesture was an instant embarrassment for the White House, and not because his environmentally taboo drinkware clashed with the green-policy speech he was on his way to deliver at a UN Climate Summit. On Tuesday, shortly after announcing to the American public that the United States was now bombing ISIS in Syria, the President of the United States flew to New York to address the United Nations – on climate change. His speech mixed high-flown sentiment with apologies for America, and pledged American sacrifice in the name of a lofty goal without evidence that such sacrifice would in any way contribute to attaining that goal. In other words, it was a typical Barack Obama whirligig. Even as American warplanes struck targets in Syria, even as regimes tottered in Jordan and Iraq and Yemen,

President Obama on Wednesday delivered a speech at the United Nations filled with his usual soaring rhetoric of global collectivism and the importance of “international norms.” But the president also displayed a shocking naivete about global affairs, religion, Islam — a Pollyannaish interpretation on the state of the world and America’s role in it. Although Mr. Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize just eight months into office, the president made his annual trip to the ineffectual world council to deliver a call to war. “Ladies and gentlemen, we come together at a crossroads between war and peace,

The View is a television show that, apparently, a lot of women watch. Currently, Rosie O’Donnell, who was once famous for something–I have no idea what–is one of the hosts. Still, many women watch. So this video of The View’s women grappling with the Obama administration’s response to ISIS terrorism is noteworthy. I want to highlight O’Donnell’s contribution near the end: We are bombing Syria because Syria has so much oil, so there is a “financial incentive.” What the Hell is this supposed to mean? Why are liberals obsessed with oil? And what, exactly, is the “financial incentive?” Here is the

Rush Limbaugh apparently tips generously, which sometimes makes people who dislike him feel quite awkward. In one case, a waitress-turned-award-winning-author revealed that she felt so awkward, that she donated both of his $1,000 tips to an abortion charity. Merritt Tierce, whose debut novel Love Me Back chronicles her time at a high-end Dallas steakhouse, revealed in an interview with Dallas News that, at the time, she was also the executive director of the Texas Equal Abortion (TEA) Fund, which provides financial assistance to low-income women seeking abortions.

If there is one thing Chelsea Clinton is most worried about, it may be that her soon-to-be child will grow up in a world without elephants. Standing alongside her mother, Hillary Clinton, at the Clinton Global Initiative this afternoon, the very-pregnant former first daughter warned the plight of African elephants, killed for their ivory tusks, is an “existential” one, and said that if the current poaching rates continue, elephants could be few and far between within the next decade. If so, this means Chelsea Clinton’s favorite animal could be something her child would never know. “The child Marc and I

After 75, Emanuel suggests, “We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic.” But Emanuel is no garden-variety crackpot. Nor is he a wannabe science-fiction writer dreaming of a centrally planned planet of robust youthful humanoids. “You know,” he says. “It’s tough for people our age.” It’s 1 a.m. on a Monday, and I am currently on the phone having an argument with a guy I’d been on only four dates with, three of them good. One of them—the last—was less good, given he had gone MIA for the better part of three weeks and I had a sneaking suspicion he had a girlfriend. We hadn’t slept together, but the kisses had been the type of kisses you walk away from with shaky knees and blind hope. There was something there, and we both knew it, which is why we are attempting to hash things out over the phone at some ungodly hour.
