6 ‘Jewish extremists’ reported
arrested in killing of Jerusalem teen

Six suspects have been arrested and interrogated in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Muhammed Abu Khdeir, whose burned body was found in the Jerusalem forest on Wednesday morning, Israeli media outlets reported Sunday. Police on Sunday said only that a “dramatic development” in the investigation has led them to believe that the act was most likely carried out by Jewish extremists in revenge for the killing of three Israeli teenagers earlier in June. (Snip) Police initially said they were investigating various avenues in the teen’s death, including criminal or personal motives, while Israeli social media abounded with rumors that

Vigilante justice is never a good idea, especially when you target someone not related to the crime. That he may have been a homosexual adds yet another unseemly layer to these perps horrific actions. Or, was this simply a "timed" murder to cover up a family feud? The Arabs, used to an eye for an eye, even if they attacked first, are restless.

This kid´s death was timed too conveniently. I will assume he was killed by the Palestinians until somebody can prove otherwise.

Note the huge difference between the way the Israeli´s responded to the killing of this teen to the way the Paki´s responded to the three Jewish kids. Israel tries to find the killers and apply the rule of law -- the Paki´s throw parties in the street and say the Jews deserved it. It is as clear as civilization vs animals.

I had read this was an honor killing by the boy´s own family for his homosexuality. The truth is out there somewhere.

Number three, they were shot at close range (back seat of the car) when their abductors realized that one of the boys was trying to call the police for help (to say the police blew it is the understatement of the century but there still would have been no way to rescue them in time. However, the murderers might not still be at large). The whole thing was caught on the dispatcher´s tape- the plea for help, the yelling by the terrorists, the gunshots-- including the murderers´ triumphant singing following the murders. The bodies were mutilated badly enough they had to be identified by DNA and dental records. It´s not a contest. The other murder is no less degenerate and disgusting. The main difference is in the reactions and the rule of law.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU READ THAT THE SUSPECTS CONFESSED THAT ISRAEL DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME KIND OF PROTECTIONS OF DUE PROCESS THAT THE US HAS. THESE ARE VERY YOUNG, UNSOPHISTICATED PEOPLE (3 MINORS AND THE OTHERS AREN´T´ MUCH OLDER) WHO HAVE NOT BEEN ALLOWED TO SEE A LAWYER, SUPPOSEDLY ON SECURITY GROUNDS, AND AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE WHO CONFESSED WAS TASERED. YES, THERE MAY BE HARD EVIDENCE BUT KNOW THAT THE CONFESSIONS AND REENACTMENTS MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU THINK. AND THERE ARE OTHER SOURCES THAT SAY THAT NOBODY HAS CONFESSED. I DON´T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I DON´T KNOW WHAT I´D CONFESS TO IN ISOLATION WITH ENOUGH "PHYSICAL PRESSURE". NO, THEY AREN´T LIKEABLE AND MAY BE GUILTY OF SOMETHING (BUT GIDEON AND MIRANDA WEREN´T VERY LIKEABLE OR INNOCENT EITHER).

One Judge to Decide the Future of Detroit

Detroit - In a trial set to open in the federal courthouse here on Tuesday, nothing short of this city’s future is at stake. If Judge Steven W. Rhodes approves a blueprint drawn up by Detroit officials to eliminate more than $7 billion of its estimated $18 billion in debts and to invest about $1.5 billion into the city’s now dismal services, it will mark the beginning of the end of the nation’s largest-ever municipal bankruptcy. The outcome will set this troubled city’s new course for the coming decades, perhaps longer. In deciding whether the city’s plan is equitable, feasible and in the best interest of creditors, Judge Rhodes will send significant messages

The man arrested after Philip Seymour Hoffman died on Feb. 2 from a lethal combination of cocaine, heroin and other drugs avoided jail time on Thursday. Robert Vineberg was never charged with any connection to Hoffman´s death, but there were connections between the two. Vineberg had said that he and Hoffman were friends, but had lost touch in recent years. Some speculated that he was Hoffman´s drug dealer, though he insisted that he did not provide the drugs that killed the actor. The 58-year-old Canadian musician pleaded guilty in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday to drug possession and faces five

Downton Abbey is getting extra political this year: the fifth season of the hit period drama takes place in 1924, the year of Britain’s first Labour party government and, consequently, a year of dramatic social change at the Crawley estate. Cast members such as Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Jim Carter and Laura Carmichael are all returning, while guest-stars Anna Chancellor and Richard E. Grant will introduce a few new characters into the mix. Stray water bottles, however, are not expected to return.

David Cameron is expected to reject calls to force terror suspects to relocate, after being warned that it could breach their human rights. The Prime Minister will announce a series of emergency measures to tackle extremism, amid growing concerns about the threat posed by British jihadis returning from Iraq and Syria. However, it is “very unlikely” that he will reintroduce powers that would force jihadists to move away from their homes, despite requests from both police and security services. The Government has been advised that the move could be subject to legal challenge, and the measures have also been opposed by

In the wake of the televised beheading of American journalist James Foley, there have been urgent calls among some in the media for an intensified U.S. military response to the Islamic State group — also known as ISIL — responsible for Foley’s gruesome murder and a host of other barbaric atrocities across northern Iraq and Syria. There is also, understandably, some alarm, because ISIL has racked up a string of tactical victories in the Sunni-dominated regions of Iraq, culminating in the taking of the giant hydroelectric dam near Mosul. The principal complaint among the armchair quarterbacks is that the U.S. failed to neutralize the growing

Germany´s defense minister said the arms would be sent in three shipments, starting next month, and would initially be enough to equip a brigade of 4,000 Peshmerga fighters. "This is in our security interest," Ursula von der Leyen told reporters in Berlin. Rep. [U.K. Prime Minister] David Cameron came out and said, not only do we have a problem, here’s my plan to deal with it,” he told “Fox News Sunday.”

In the past two weeks, President Obama has twice interrupted vacation and fundraising trips to take presidential planes to Washington for a brief period, only to turn around and fly back to his earlier location — once after just a few hours in the White House. Why the peripatetic travel schedule? Well, there was a wedding and a bachelor party involved — and an expensive mix of socializing, work, and vacation. On Thursday, the White House announced Obama would travel to Westchester, N.Y., on Friday to attend a Democratic fundraiser. The president would then travel on to Newport, R.I., later in the day for another fundraiser.

Watching the events unfold in Ferguson, Missouri, I can’t help thinking about the Holocaust and post-war Germany. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, I’ve spent years watching Germany wrestle with its dark past. It’s just one of many places that have made efforts to understand and compensate for a difficult history: For nearly three decades, countries as varied as South Africa, Rwanda, and the nations of Latin America and post-Communist Eastern Europe have been engaged in this process, often called “transitional justice.” That’s a broad term for the ways in which societies deal with the legacies of past injustice.

It will take two decades to rebuild the thousands of houses destroyed during Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to a recent NGO report. At least 17,000 homes were obliterated or severely damaged during the conflict, with thousands more needing substantial repairs, according to an assessment by Shelter Cluster. More than 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed during the conflict. In addition 71 Israelis were killed – all but six of them soldiers. But the report on Gaza’s housing stock indicates inhabitants of the densely populated strip will face a severe infrastructural burden over the coming years.
