Michelle Obama Fights
GOP On School Lunch Rules

Associated Press, by Darlene Superville

WASHINGTON-- First ladies typically avoid getting into public scraps, but Michelle Obama has jumped into perhaps her biggest battle yet. She´s fighting a House Republican effort to soften a central part of her prized anti-childhood obesity campaign and she says she´s ready "to fight until the bitter end." Mrs. Obama even mocked the GOP effort in an opinion column and argued her case before her Twitter followers. "Remember a few years ago when Congress declared that the sauce on a slice of pizza should count as a vegetable in school lunches?" she wrote in The New York Times. "You don´t have to be

She was not elected and neither was Valerie. Our government has been turned over to them by the laziest man on the planet and so far all they have done is create a big mess. They have set back women´s push for power by being incompetent and having too much hubris to admit it. I can´t wait for them to be out of the WH permanently. 2016 can´t get here fast enough!

Hey, Mooch is right! The sauce on a pizza is made from tomatoes and they are FRUITS. She says she wants kids to eat more fruits and veggies, so what´s the problem with pizza sauce?

One of the lunch photos I´ve seen posted by unhappy kids shows a piece of chicken on a plain bun. What´s healthier, that or a slice of pizza which has cheese (calcium), tomato sauce (vitamin C), sausage (protein) and crust (grain)?

If I remember correctly, as obviously Moochie doesn´t, the school lunch kerfluffle was about allowing ketchup to count as a vegetable. That lasted about ten seconds. But this is what you get when politicos try to micromanage your life. And yes, I´m including Mooch. She´s as political as they come.

Botanically speaking, tomatoes are berries and therefore fruit. On the other hand, a case could be made that anything that is neither animal nor mineral is, by process of elimination, vegetable. That would leave both air and water as vegetables. A knotty problem. But Queen Kong should BUTT out.

But, Moochelle, you DO have to be a nutritionist to declare what and how much food is appropriate for each individual. You are NOT a nutritionist and you never will be. You aren´t even a lawyer! FTA: The association says it fully supports getting kids to eat healthier but says many districts are losing money because students aren´t buying the healthier lunches. Even your unionized lackeys don´t believe you know what you are doing.

"How can we call these standards a success when they are driving students away from the program?" she [Diane Pratt-Heavner, a spokeswoman for The School Nutrition Association] said.

It doesn´t matter what you call it. All that matter is that they do what Michelle tells them to do, whether it´s a success or not. The goal is for Michelle to be co-president and dictate what people should do, just as her husband does.

As for mocking the sauce on a pizza being a vegetable, er, it is. It is made from tomatoes (tomatoes are really a fruit, but that´s irrelevant). The stomach doesn´t know whether a tomato is in uncut form or pureed. So, dear, sweet, gentle Michelle, the sauce really IS a vegetable.

Michelle Obama is bossy biddy. I believe much of the obesity crisis in this country is due to lack of exercise. Kids are more sedentary. They play video games. They are not outside playing tag and hide and seek. We had two recesses per day in school and PE twice a week. We walked to and from school. I realize that was then and this is now, but kids need to be up and about. They also need to eat foods they enjoy. A peanut butter sandwich with a few chips some celery and carrots and an apple was a staple when I was a kid. Michelle needs to butt out (no pun intended). This is not her business. Parents should decide what their kids eat. No one wants your opinion because you are doing more harm than good when the kids won´t eat what you suggest. I am, however, a big proponent of NO vending machines in school. No pop, candy, etc. Kids don´t need the temptation., but for goodness sake allow them to bring appropriate treats on their birthday. This whole thing has gotten out of hand. Use some common sense and quit listening to the food Nazi´s.

The Little Dictatress Who Could wants to control your kiddies´ lives. This isn´t about proper nutrition. It´s about exerting and coercing the same kind of power her hubby weilds. She wants a piece of the action.

She said that pizza sauce wasn´t a vegetable. Er, it is. (Technically it´s a fruit, but that´s not relevant here.) The body doesn´t know the difference between an uncut tomato and a pureed tomato, so she is wrong.

Have you ever noticed how liberals are the only people who seem to have this overweening compulsion to control what other people do? Conservatives never do that. It´s an interesting phenomenon.

Speculating, there is something in the DNA of people who become liberals that makes them want to seek power over others. Never content to allow people to make their own choices (for reasons which escape me), liberals wrap their lives and their tentacles around everything that can be molded to conform to their idea of what is right and good. Nevermind that their solutions always restrict and never allow expansion and growth.

Is is that liberals are born, not made? Do they become liberals because of a recessive gene? Or does liberalism cause them to develop a stunted sense of right and wrong?

Still studying this...

Those of us who chose to go another path are said to be different with a derogatory smirk. Being different isn´t tolerated. It isn´t comfortable to the limited think of a liberal/democrat. That´s one of the reason there is no deductive/logical thinking on their part. It isn´t approved by the majority.

If kids are shunning the lunches foisted on them by Mooch´s program, why not just implement an Affirmative Action policy around it? It´s the way authoritarian socialism tries to force businesses and schools to select candidates they don´t really want, maybe the same approach will persuade kids to select food they don´t really want...

Of course, the only remaining problem will be getting the kids to actually eat the stuff. Enter the program to re-purpose all those feeding funnels siezed from illegal foie gras operations -- use ´em to force-feed the kids what Mooch decides they should eat.

But make sure to leave Obama´s kids in their private school that isn´t affected by her self-righteous dictates...

Okay, Michelle-bashers, you don´t understand. According to the first 20 pages of "Blood Feud", the First Lady is building a series of accomplishments so she will have a record on which to run for political office. Do any of us think Ma Belle is going to start with the Chicago City Council? My inference is that she intends to begin by challenging Hillary Clinton in 2016.

So, we have to let her alone while she gets ready to run the country. The school lunch program is just the beginning.

How´s that for giving us all sick headaches?

When rumors started that Hollywood was thinking about remaking The NeverEnding Story, most people of my generation were incredulous that they would attempt to redo such a childhood favorite. Second-term presidents rarely achieve as much as they did during their four years in office, either because top aides tend to be off their political game or because of external events. Reagan´s second term team, for example, was greatly distracted by the Iran-Contra scandal. George W. Bush´s second term was consumed by Hurricane Katrina and the economic collapse of 2007. As a result, second-term presidents tend to spend their final days in the Oval Office with low public approval ratings and rapidly waning influence on the course of events. You can understand President Obama´s current political problems -- and how those problems could make things very tough for his party in this fall´s midterm election -- in a single word. And that word is "competence". Obama was elected in 2008 on a stated promise that he would restore competence to government. He pitched himself as the antidote to "Heck of a job, Brownie" and the Bush years, the person who would always put the most qualified candidate in every job in his Administration. That the basic functioning of government would never be in question. Almost six years on from

Washington – During an awards ceremony at the White House, President Barack Obama whispered in the ear of superstar musician Linda Ronstadt that he once had a crush on her. The President admitted to the crowd afterwards that, "I told Linda Ronstadt I had a crush on her back in the day " Ronstadt joined Obama on stage, along with 11 other recipients of the 2013 National Medal of Arts. No word from the singer of such hits as "You´re no good," "Desperado," "It´s so easy," and "Blue Bayou," on what she said back to the President. Obama also thanked

Illegal immigrants plan to picket the White House Monday afternoon, calling on fellow immigrant-rights advocacy groups to refuse to meet with the Obama administration until President Obama specifically includes illegal immigrants in any future meetings. “We are among the millions of people who will either benefit or be harmed by the decisions the President makes, and we are here to represent ourselves in any future negotiations,” said Rosi Carrasco, one of organizers, in a statement announcing the action. Billing themselves “undocumented immigrant leaders,” the organizers said they will erect a picket line to symbolize their demand. The groups are fighting

Geraldo Rivera hates it whenever any one around him refers to people illegally crossing the border as “illegals.” On Monday’s edition of Outnumbered he challenged FNC’s Ainsley Earhardt when she dared to use that phrase in his presence. Rivera barked: “Every time you say ‘illegals,’ it’s like fingernails on a black board!” Well Earhardt, along with a few of her co-panelists, fought back against Rivera’s insistence that the border-crossers were “law-abiding.” (video after the jump) The following is the relevant exchange as it was aired on the July 28 edition of FNC’s Outnumbered: Andrea Tantaros: Ainsley how does this move,

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee angered his Facebook fans after endorsing Sen. Lamar Alexander against conservative state Representative Joe Carr last month. Carr has been endorsed by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham for the August 7th primary. And Carr has been relentlessly hammering Alexander for voting for the Senate´s amnesty bill even after law enforcement officials warned Alexander that it would lure more illegal immigrants from Central America. Nearly every one of close to 450 comments beneath Huckabee´s announcement on his Facebook page blasts Huckabee for supporting Alexander. One Huckabee fan said, "We

Inside Hoboken’s combined junior-senior high school is a storage closet. Behind the locked door, some mothballed laptop computers are strewn among brown cardboard boxes. Others are stacked one atop another. Dozens more are stored on mobile computer carts, many of them on their last legs. That’s all that remains from a failed experiment to assign every student a laptop at Hoboken Junior Senior High School. It began five years ago with an unexpected windfall of stimulus money from Washington, D.C., and good intentions to help the district’s students,

A leading drug policy researcher, David Murray, has a must-read piece up at the Hudson Institute website, "Comparing Marijuana and Alcohol: Seriously." Murray´s article is a devastating deconstruction of claims that marijuana is relatively safe, or at least safer than alcohol. And, as he points out, it thereby undermines much of the basis of the New York Times´s blithely irresponsible editorial endorsement of marijuana legalization. Read Murray´s whole piece. Here are highlights: It’s a remarkable weekend when one finds the Grey Lady arguing for state’s rights, and worrying huffily about arbitrary Presidential powers. But when it comes to smoking dope, the mind

President Barack Obama is practically weepy at the thought of his daughter Malia going off to college, a milestone many months away that is already on his mind. Malia barely reached up to her father´s shoulders when they moved to the White House nearly six years ago with her mother, little sister and grandmother. At 16, she stands nearly as tall as her 6-foot-1 dad and is visiting college campuses in preparation for that bittersweet day in the fall of 2016 when she trades her White House bedroom for a dorm. She has been seen touring the University of California
