Purlin In Anger: Arrest Breaks
Up ´Knit-In´ At Vermont Utility

National Public Radio, by Bill Chappell

A "knit-in" was broken up in South Burlington on Wednesday, after five women who are unhappy with a Vermont Gas pipeline plan occupied the utility´s waiting room — and occupied themselves by knitting. One woman was bound off by police, taken away in what says were five squad cars that responded to perhaps the most civil of all disobediences. The knitters insisted on speaking to Vermont Gas officials about their complaints over a pipeline expansion. They were told they needed an appointment; after the utility´s headquarters closed, they were warned that they were trespassing. Jane Palmer, a diminutive woman in a

Yup no gas or oil for their homes, they have to use electric only.
Of course electric is usually produced with gas, oil or coal too.

When traveling a few years ago, I was surprised to find knitting needles are okie-doke on airplanes. TSA is worried about nail clippers, etc., but allow a ten-inch long sharpened piece of metal??? completely flummoxed here in Alaska.

On July 24th, footage surfaced of Jonathan Gruber, MIT economist and the chief architect of Obamacare, discussing the issue at the heart of the latest ACA court cases: whether subsidies are only available for state-run insurance exchanges or can also be paid as part of a federal exchange. During a January 18, 2012 video-taped lecture Gruber said, "I think what’s important to remember politically about this, is if you’re a state and you don’t set up an exchange, that means your citizens don’t get their tax credits." The next day, Gruber spoke with Jonathan Cohn, a senior editor at The

Fitness bracelets that track a lot more than just their users’ daily steps could lead to a “privacy nightmare,” Sen. Charles Schumer said Sunday. Popular fitness tracker FitBit, and other similar devices, keep a tally of where its users workout, how many calories they burn and even their sleeping patterns, Schumer said at a press conference. That information can be worth money if the companies sell it to third parties like insurance providers and employers without customers’ consent. “This is personal information. It ought to stay personal. Plain and simple,” Schumer said. The New York senator is calling on the

Barack Obama deliberately set out to lose the war in Iraq, and he did. He defied the advice of his joint chiefs of staff to secure America’s formidable military presence and keep 20,000 troops in country, and left Iraq to its own devices and the tender mercies of Iran. In doing so, he betrayed every American and Iraqi who gave his life to create a free Iraq and keep it out of the clutches of the terrorists.
