Resentment Behind the Waning
Patriotism of Liberal Americans

Patriot Post, by Jonah Goldberg

You wouldn’t think, five years into the Obama presidency, that so many liberal Americans wouldn’t like America. A new Pew survey found that 44 percent of Americans don’t often feel pride in being an American, and only 28 percent said that America is the greatest country in the world. Respondents who “often feel proud to be American” were overwhelmingly conservative (from 72 percent to 81 percent depending on the kind of conservative). A majority (60 percent) of “solid liberals” said they don’t often feel proud to be an American. The polling data only proves what has been obvious for a

If they don´t like it here, they can move to Canada or Europe where the health care will soon be equivalent to ours (and not because ours is getting better). Or try Mexico, assuming you can get over the border; or once you get there obtain a work permit. Don´t let the door hit you on the way out!

Back in the sixties in my northeast lib bubble, Anti-Americanism was already all the rage. My whole moonbat family grew up with a raging case of the disease, as well as anti-militarism and Massachusetts Kennedy-style big government worship. Aping British humor and making fun of the Ugly American were what they all lived for.

It took the brilliant mind of a (legal) immigrant, refugee from Communism, born Alice Rosenbaum, to wake me up to what makes America free and exceptional, and what is today being thrown away.

Every liberal I know is miserable. It doesn´t matter how much or how little they have. They´re nasty, abrasive, always ready to argue. The worst ones are the ones who think they´re funny. Their "humor" is always offensive and juvenile. A good example is that lib talk show host, her name escapes me, but I think it´s Stephanie. My family is a lib breeding ground. They are very depressing people.

Not long ago, I learned the hard way what not to say in prison. One afternoon, a heavily tattooed fellow inmate with the faintest hint of a mohawk and a secret connection to an endless supply of chocolate milk was returning to the barracks from his job milking cows at the prison farm. In a fit of bonhomie and thinking I might score myself a carton or two, I called out to him in greeting. To better insinuate myself, I decided to avoid what some here call “white collar speak” and others call “talking fancy”—i.e., proper, grammatical English—and use a bit

President Barack Obama tried to get himself a bit more political space Thursday to make a decision about whether to expand the U.S military campaign against Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria, but in so doing he may have dealt himself a significant political blow by suggesting that his policy on the issue is adrift. “We don’t have a strategy yet,” Obama said as he took questions from reporters in the White House briefing room. The president’s aim was clearly to defuse building expectations that U.S. military strikes in Syria were imminent as part of a broadening drive to defeat the

The FBI’s most recent national threat assessment for domestic terrorism makes no reference to Islamist terror threats, despite last year’s Boston Marathon bombing and the 2009 Fort Hood shooting—both carried out by radical Muslim Americans. Instead, the internal FBI intelligence report concluded in its 2013 assessment published this month that the threat to U.S. internal security from extremists is limited to attacks and activities by eight types of domestic extremist movements—none motivated by radical Islam. They include anti-government militia groups and white supremacy extremists, along with “sovereign citizen” nationalists, and anarchists. Other domestic threat groups outlined by the FBI assessment include violent

He repeated the thought in his pre-Labor Day weekend press conference on August 28. A week before, the day after the murder of James Foley, Obama had remarked, “From governments and peoples across the Middle East there has to be a common effort to extract this cancer, so that it does not spread.” These expressions of alarm at a malignant cancer in the Middle East are an improvement over Obama’s cavalier dismissal,

Egypt and the United Arab Emirates carried out airstrikes in Tripoli this weekend against the Islamist militants who were in the process of taking control of that city and its airport. The airstrikes appear to have failed to prevent that takeover. The government of Libya is, in the words of its ambassador to Egypt, “unable to protect its institutions, its airports, and natural resources, especially the oil fields.” Moreover, the U.S., which was unable to protect its personnel in Benghazi and has abandoned its embassy in Tripoli, isn’t about to help. It will take two decades to rebuild the thousands of houses destroyed during Israel’s assault on Gaza, according to a recent NGO report. At least 17,000 homes were obliterated or severely damaged during the conflict, with thousands more needing substantial repairs, according to an assessment by Shelter Cluster. More than 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were killed during the conflict. In addition 71 Israelis were killed – all but six of them soldiers. But the report on Gaza’s housing stock indicates inhabitants of the densely populated strip will face a severe infrastructural burden over the coming years.

They DO have a strategy, but they prefer to appear indecisive. That’s because the strategy would likely provoke even greater criticism than the false confession of endless dithering. The actual strategy is detente first, and then a full alliance with Iran throughout the Middle East and North Africa. It has been on display since before the beginning of the Obama administration. During his first presidential campaign in 2008, Mr. Obama used a secret back channel to Tehran to assure the mullahs that he was a friend of the Islamic Republic, and that they would be very happy with his policies.
