College Presidents Say No
To Unions For Athletes

Associated Press, by TOM RAUM

WASHINGTON -- Northwestern University on Thursday urged the National Labor Relations Board to overturn a regional ruling that would allow its scholarship football players to unionize, holding up the football program as exemplifying the university´s integration of athletics and education. In a 60-page brief filed with the labor board in Washington just hours ahead of a midnight deadline, the university laid out its opposition to student athletes forming a union and asked to argue its case before the board. The regional director´s decision "transforms what has always been a cooperative educational relationship between university and student into an adversarial employer-employee relationship,"

Comments:
This is the problem with identity politics. Eventually different "victim groups" collide over lucre. Here the victim athletes (the BMOC, with scholarships and special housing, dining halls, easy courses) and the victim University (beacon of liberal enlightenment in a dark ocean of brutish right-wing taxpayers) are pitted against each other. Makes the leftists in charge of the Univeristy look bad, and if successfull, will reduce the fungible millions these athletes bring into the University coffers. The Horror!

The rich tapestry of leftist conflict and irony is in full display here. You have the NLRB, Liberal Universities, and college athletes (richly represented by minorities) pitted against each other of the "redistribution" of millions of dollars sports related income. The only guaranteed winner in this is the lawyers representing the two sides. If the "student athletes" win, expect a mind-blowing payout to the lawyers who are likely working for a contingency fee.

They don´t need a union to do this. They can just all band together and strike... if that´s really how they feel.

That´s what I thought. It´s not about the players now is it?

There is no NLFB. The SC overturned the illegal appointments and all their decisions are null and void.

Obama wants to be impeached

President Obama insists on flirting with impeachment even as House Republican leaders insist there’s no such possibility. Obama uses a passive-aggressive strategy that can be judged as a political maneuver, a personality disorder, or both. Secure in the knowledge that impeachment is not the same as removal from office, Mr. Obama brings up the topic on his own and with bold defiance. Martyrdom goes well with a Messiah complex and Mr. Obama’s speeches are a non-stop litany of depicting himself as a victim of Republicans. Already operating beyond the constitutional bounds of presidential power, Mr. Obama’s strategy is to push the bounds

I received a call from my sons’ school in March telling me that my oldest needed to be picked up early. He had been given a one-day suspension because he had thrown a chair. He did not hit anyone, but he could have, the school officials told me. JJ was 4 at the time. I agreed his behavior was inappropriate, but I was shocked that it resulted in a suspension. For weeks, it seemed as if JJ was on the chopping block. He was suspended two more times, once for throwing another chair and then for spitting on a student

The president’s demeanor is worrying a lot of people. From the immigration crisis on the Mexican border to the Islamic State rising in Mesopotamia, Barack Obama seems totally detached from the world’s convulsions. When he does interrupt his endless rounds of golf, fundraising and photo ops, it’s for some affectless, mechanical, almost forced public statement. Regarding Ukraine, his detachment — the rote, impassive voice — borders on dissociation. His U.N. ambassador, Samantha Power, delivers an impassioned denunciation of Russia. Obama cautions that we not “get out ahead of the facts,” as if the facts of this case — Vladimir Putin’s

When President Obama issues executive orders on immigration in coming weeks, pro-reform activists are expecting something dramatic: temporary relief from deportation and work authorization for perhaps several million undocumented immigrants. If the activists are right, the sweeping move would upend a contentious policy fight and carry broad political consequences. The activists met privately with the President and his aides June 30 at the White House, and say in that meeting Obama suggested he will act before the November midterm elections. hey hope his decision will offer relief to a significant percentage of the estimated

(Video) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi doubled down on her comments that Americans should view the flood of children crossing the border while claiming refugee status just like baby Jesus. Pelosi reminded reporters that it was the National Conference of Catholic Bishops that used the baby Jesus analogy. She then suggested that if Moses hadn’t have been accepted by the Egyptians, then there wouldn’t be the Ten Commandments. “You could even speak about, if it’s your tradition, Moses,” she said. “What would we do if Moses had not been accepted by the pharaoh´s family? We wouldn’t have the Ten Commandments

She always arrives in an SUV, sometimes staying for a few hours, sometimes as long as a week--just so long as the lady of the house is away. And, thanks to the fact that the house in question--the palatial residence of Bill and Hillary Clinton--is protected by a squad of U.S. Secret Servicemen who are in on the deception, the attractive, busty blonde can time her arrivals and departures to within minutes of those of Mrs Clinton. [Snip] Given that Bill Clinton is ‘Eagle’ and Mrs Clinton is ‘Evergreen’, the special visitor was dubbed ‘Energiser’ in a rare moment of

The IDF has not yet located and destroyed all of Hamas´ terror tunnels, but the consensus about the intent behind them is quite clear. This is Jonathan Dahoah HeLevi of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel, when taken together with his organization’s military build-up. In the meantime, the IDF’s war against the tunnels continues. On Monday IDF forces thwarted another terror attack after two groups of Hamas

ST. LOUIS – The nation´s third botched execution in six months offers more evidence for the courts that lethal injection carries too many risks and amounts to cruel and unusual punishment, death-row lawyers and other opponents said Thursday. Death-penalty opponents say the execution of an Arizona inmate who took two hours to die shows that state experiments with different drugs and dosages are a callous trial-and-error process. The result: Every few months, an inmate gasps, chokes and takes an unusually long time to die. "These executions are experiments on human subjects," said Cheryl Pilate, an attorney for several Missouri death-row

One third of Americans think President Barack Obama should be impeached, a new poll says. According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday, 33 percent of Americans think the president should be impeached and removed from office, compared with 65 percent who say they don’t support impeachment. Fifty-seven percent of Republicans say they support impeaching Obama, compared with just 35 percent of independent voters and 13 percent of Democrats. When asked about when Congress should attempt to impeach a president, 79 percent of Americans said it should only be used if there is evidence of a serious crime — such as

As is always the case with anything involving former-Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, our unbiased, objective, not-at-all-liberal media couldn´t wait to mock her impeachment case against President Obama -- but not everyone is laughing. According to reporting from The Hill, The White House fears exactly that should the president take executive action to grant amnesty to thousands of illegals. Senior White House advisers are taking very seriously the possibility that Republicans in Congress will try to impeach President Obama, especially if he takes executive action to slow deportations. Dan Pfeiffer, a senior adviser to Obama, said Friday that the White House

The View chat show is in chaos after producers hopeful that conservative Meghan McCain might join the team turned down the offer. The conservative pundit and daughter of Senator John McCain appeared as a guest co-host on The View earlier this month as part of a tryout to join the talk show. After losing all their co-hosts except for Whoopi Goldberg, the show is in turmoil as they struggle to find suitable replacements. Barbara Walters retired, Sherri Shepherd moved on after seven years and Jenny McCarthy left the show after just one season. McCain, 29, is currently a panelist on

Even as President Obama grapples with the crisis of immigrant children arriving at the Southwest border, White House officials are laying the groundwork for a large-scale expansion of immigrant rights that would come by executive action within weeks. Officials signaled strongly Friday that Obama´s move would shield from deportation large numbers of immigrants living in the country illegally, as advocacy groups have demanded. Roughly 5 million of the estimated 11 million people who entered the country without legal authorization or overstayed their visas could be protected under a leading option the White House is considering, according to officials who discussed
