The Progressive Assault on the
Legacy of Independence Day

FrontPage Magazine, by Bruce Thornton

Original Article

Independence Day is a good time to revisit the foundations of our political order, especially given the long record of Barack Obama and the Democrats’ disregard for the Constitution. The members of the Continental Congress who met in Philadelphia in July 1776 sought their independence from England in order to recover their rights that had been violated by a tyrant, and to establish political freedom and autonomy so that those rights could be protected from further erosion. For a century now the Progressive ideology has insidiously undermined that legacy of autonomy in a slow-motion revolution that aims to “fundamentally transform

Comments:
I don´t think the term "progressive" is strong enough. It´s just a nice way of saying Communist. The Founding Fathers were right, as stated in the article: "...the Obama administration has created a regime undermining the foundational principles of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The founders had a word for such an assault on freedom––tyranny."

Good Democrats are no doubt uncomfortable to say the least over demonstrations of American pride and history. Deeply post-American and Internationalist as they are, they surely would rather concentrate on problems, real or imagined, that they have assigned to the country, with a good round of shame and guilt.

America is not perfect, but it is the best, by far, that humankind has accomplished to this point in time. And it is imaginably better than the Dark Ages that Progressives are planning.

As long as Republicans and the Right grant the Left the sanction of "good intentions" they will continue their assault on freedom and the rule of law. The evidence, over 100 million dead and countless others resigned to misery and slavery, that their intentions are not "good" has been overwhelming for a century now. Yet the charade of their "compassion" - from our side, who should know better - continues, and continues... They hate Independence Day, and always will. Because they hate, and fear, independence. Can just one Republican say this out loud, just once?

I have been watching TCM all day. Most of the Revolutionary War movies they are showing were made in the 40´s and are as true to the founding principles as one could imagine.

However, they are now running the 1776 musical made in the 60´s. One of the songs talked about "right" and "left" as if those concepts existed then (didn´t they emerge a couple of decades later during the French Revolution?). Worse, they made the delegates on "the right" out to be bad guys who only cared about *gasp* their property. This is a perversion of the principles. Freedom includes the freedom to keep and have what one earns and owns, or it is not freedom at all. The signers definitely knew this - after all, it was a revolution over taxes!

And we definitely need another.

The vice president’s Boeing 757 delivered Eric Holder to St. Louis yesterday. In Ferguson, Holder announced that he was “a black man” and therefore had the power to heal Ferguson in ways that no other law enforcement official could. Yet his comments were sure to throw gasoline on fire burning hot with racial division. That shouldn’t shock anyone. It’s the community organizing model of running the Justice Department. What is shocking is who is fueling the Justice Department’s “training” of police departments around the country: radicals, communist-affiliated organizations, and George Soros. The persistent whitewashing of Al Sharpton’s revolting past will always be a mystery to me. But if we’re to trust Politico’s reporting today, Sharpton has emerged as the go-to civil rights guru for the Obama administration. (Snip) Draw whatever conclusions you like from this development. But if the point of the piece is to detail the revival of a once-reviled public figure, offering a single purified paragraph detailing the events that first made the man famous seems a bit disingenuous. Perhaps a little more context is necessary for those who didn’t live through his violent circus. So let’s revisit. Three decades ago,

Ali Muhammad Brown was already a suspect in the murder of three Seattle men when he shot 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin eight times at a West Orange traffic light in his home state of New Jersey in June. Brown is described as a devout Muslim man who killed as part of what prosecutors allege was a “bloody crusade” against the United States. He sought revenge against America for what he said was the wonton killing of civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tevlin was allegedly Brown’s fourth victim. Brown’s victims, with the exception of Tevlin, had a similar background: they were young,

A declassified intelligence report released by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) this week showed Hamas terrorists have been firing rockets at Israel from heavily populated civilian areas, including churches, United Nations facilities, Red Cross stations, hospitals, schools, children’s playgrounds, and a number of other areas. The report, which was declassified by the IDF earlier this week, includes previously unreleased statistics and military surveillance videos showing Hamas launching missiles from many of these civilian locations, which constitutes a war crime. New evidence is presented that Hamas used several United Nations schools run by the Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) as a base from which
