Ravenel likely to jump
into Senate race Friday

Post & Courier [Charleston, SC], by Schuyler Kropf

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 7/4/2014 8:01:05 AM

Former S.C. Treasurer Thomas Ravenel is expected to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate on Friday as an independent hopeful against Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham. Ravenel said Wednesday that a "large announcement" is planned for Friday and that he will appear in Greenville, but otherwise declined to give specifics. A copy of Ravenel´s schedule says he plans on attending the Red White and Blue Festival in Greenville on July 4. Ravenel recently confirmed he had hired a private vendor to help him collect the minimum 10,000 signatures of South Carolina voters he needs to be placed on the November ballot

Comments:
Personable, from a well-known family (our beautiful new-ish bridge is named the Ravenel Bridge), but with a history containing a cocaine sentence (mentioned near the end of the piece).

Could make a three-way race and that could result in the Democrat being elected. But would that be any worse than Graham?

I know nothing about Ravenel, but on its face it looks like the typical Dem plan to split the Rep vote. If the Republican party does not have a liberal counterpart to put on the ballot to even this out we will lose this election and many more to come. Our country is under attack and its time to use strategies to fight back.

This IS a Democrat plan! It´s very obvious that they will use this over and over in states where they need to win in order to hold the Senate. REPUBLICANS had better to wake up and figure out a way to stop this!

Y´all, Ravenel is a Republican, er, that is except for this election, where he´s turned "Independent." His whole biography is full of conservative flags. His conviction and sentence involving cocaine while he was state treasurer in the Haley government might make a difference. Check Wikipedia for more.

It sounds like a ploy for attention. Does he have the signatures? He probably needs 15,000 to have 10,000 valid ones. I´m no fan of Graham, but at this point I think he´s better than a Dem. He won his last election 58-42 in 2008. Ravenel probably wouldn´t draw enough votes to be a factor.

Wonder if the private vendor paid to get 10,000 signatures has Democrat ties?

And it might be interesting to see how many of those valid signatures are registered Democrats.

So, what everyone seems to be saying is that they think three Democrats will be running for the same seat, instead of just two. Why would the Dems do that? They are guaranteed a liberal leftist already. Why would they throw a third person in the mix?

A British man convicted and jailed for Islamic terrorism in 1999 has, in a lengthy and indulgent feature with Sky News, blamed violent computer games for “dehumanised” young Britons going abroad to fight for the Islamic state. The twelve minute report – which showed at regular intervals yesterday on Sky News – features a number of recorded interviews with British Muslims expressing their opinions on the reasons for the radicalisation of young muslims. One, a rapper, blames ‘injustice’ and cites Muslims in the UK who are so distrustful of the government and media they don’t even believe the political executions

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has released a video of an imam in Gaza who was filmed during a Friday sermon while brandishing a gun and saying that weapons were the Palestinian Arabs´ only means to establish a caliphate. MEMRI noted that the cleric, Sheik Iyad Abu Funun, was released to the Palestinian Authority-assigned areas of Judea and Samaria as part of the Shalit prisoner swap deal in 2011. He was arrested again, and was sentenced to complete his 10-year term in prison. In July 2013, after threatening to go on a hunger strike, he was released and deported to

Last night, David Cameron made his final appeal to Scottish voters to remain part of the Union. In a passionate speech in Aberdeen, he sought to spell out to Scots the full scale of the awful and momentous choice that faces them--whether or not to break up the country “that all of us call home”. The Prime Minister has been accused by the Yes campaign of “scaremongering”: but as he said, it is his duty to set out the true consequences of such a vote, and to explain how disastrous it would be not just for Britain, but for Scots

There’s a lot of competition for Barack Obama’s biggest lie. The man who could assure the American public with a straight face over thirty times that they could keep their doctor under his health plan, when he knew that to be completely false, is one hellluva fibber. But execrable as that serial prevarication may have been, it doesn’t hold a proverbial candle to his most recent whopper — that the Islamic State is not Islamic — not to mention its corollary, or perhaps subsidiary lie, that real religions do not indulge in murder. The announcement that he would delay his immigration initiative until after the election and his formal announcement that the United States would take military action against the Islamic State could have been coerced. Maybe Democratic leaders in Congress and a few members of the Obama team have had it. Could it be that, after President Obama briefed Democrats in Congress on the immigration plan, they balked? Washington - The current threat posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, will test not only the resolve and strategic judgment of America and its allies, but also our nation’s fidelity to a basic constitutional principle. Our Constitution reserves to Congress the power to declare war and designates our president as the commander in chief, but our recent history has been characterized by executive overreach and legislative abdication in the initiation of military action. The current crisis gives us an opportunity to restore the proper balance between the branches. America’s history since 2001 should compel us to fix the way
