VA fix could cost billions
Washington Times, by Jacqueline Klimas

Original Article

The VA’s data on patient wait times is so bad that Congress’s official scorekeeper can’t even calculate the costs for fixing the agency, and that has become a major hurdle as lawmakers push for a quick fix on Capitol Hill. The House and Senate each have passed bills to try to get a handle on the wait times and other problems afflicting care at VA clinics, but when negotiators from each chamber met last month to try to hammer out a compromise, they ran into problems over the cost. Sen. Richard Burr, North Carolina Republican, said they couldn’t even begin to debate what’s in the bill because the cost estimate produced by the

Comments:
One of the problems with the current 0bamaNation is the lack of desire by Congress to slash known useless agencies, programs (including pork) and employees to support our military. They deserve more than a pat on the back at airports and a cup of coffee. Many are suffering internally and externally because of the Hill´s misplaced ideas of what their priorities should be always for those that wear the uniform proudly. If the illegal alien children are allowed to stay here, the cost will be endless BILLIONS to our treasury that will take away from our returning and aging veterans.

It shouldn´t cost anything at all to fire incompetent bonus seekers. Change the law to make it easier to fire federal employees.

The primary case for Obamacare was that insurance companies were denying care to those with preexisting conditions. Turns out VA was pretty much denying care to so many, they simply have lost track of how many have been denied. If this is how the government is going to do things we need to take the Senate and repeal the law now. Go ahead and put repeal on the floor. Let the Democrats decide which ones will be allowed to vote for repeal to save their seats. Then take it to court that one Congress in not allowed to subject future Congresses to special rules.

They should give qualified veterans with service connected disabilities the option of going to private doctors from the get-go. A certain percentage would do that, while others would continue on with their VA doctors. That would relieve a lot of pressure on the scheduling of VA doctor´s appointments.

They should also fill prescriptions written by private doctors for qualified veterans, without those veterans then having to schedule a second doctor´s appointment with a VA doctor before such prescriptions written by private doctors can be filled at VA pharmacies. That would also take some pressure off the scheduling of VA doctor´s appointments.

The reality of socialized health care - death panels and waiting lines - must be kept from the public at all costs, and those who reveal the reality must be slandered and libeled. All praise Dear Leader on this, Dependence Day 2014.

Here is a most timely example of the old adage that "government governs best when it governs least."

Surely it is time for the VA to be stripped to bare bones, to get the control of patient records, treatment, follow up etc. in the hands of competent professionals who are monitored for quality by competent non-political oversight. IOW, get the VA out of 95% of what they currently do. We already have the UN, we don´t need any more copycat bureaucracies.

The world´s largest flying aquatic insect, with huge, nightmarish pincers, has been discovered in China´s Sichuan province, experts say. According to the Insect Museum of West China, local villagers in the outskirts of Chengdu handed over "weird insects that resemble giant dragonflies with long teeth" earlier this month. Several of these odd critters were examined by the museum and found to be unusually large specimens of the giant dobsonfly, which is native to China and Vietnam. The largest one measured 21 centimeters (8.27 inches) when its wings were open, according to the museum, busting the original record for largest aquatic insect

Obama scraps Jimmy Kimmel

As crises continue erupting all over the world, presidential fundraising trips still make the cut. Late-night television appearances, on the other hand, do not. White House spokesman Josh Earnest confirmed Tuesday that tentative plans to appear on Jimmy Kimmel´s late night show during President Obama´s three-day trip to the West Coast were scrapped, at least in part because of how it would look. The decision "is at least in part related to the challenges of doing a comedy show in the midst of some of these other, more serious matters that the president´s dealing with in the international scene," Earnest told reporters. A Border Patrol report reveals that “unaccompanied minors” are only one-fourth of the current invasion from Central America across our Southwest border. The crossings by family units have increased almost five times faster. This contradicts White House and media efforts to elicit public sympathy by focusing public attention on children. Total other-than-Mexican (OTM) apprehensions were 202,951 in the Southwest Border Sector (with three-fourths of those in the Rio Grande Valley) from Oct.1 through June 30. Of those, 57,525 were “unaccompanied alien children.” The other 145,426 persons were among 55,420 “family units”

President Vladimir Putin’s meddling in Ukraine cost Russia dearly in financial markets. With the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, the toll is only getting worse. The price to protect Russian bonds against default, already the highest among the world’s four largest emerging markets, has surged since the July 17 tragedy in eastern Ukraine. The Micex Index resumed its decline, putting the losses since Putin began his push into Crimea in late February at 4.2 percent through yesterday and wiping out about $28 billion in market value, even as stock gauges from the U.S. to India jumped to all-time highs. The fugitive and alleged owner of the South Korean ferry that sank in April and killed hundreds of children aboard was as mysterious in death as he was in life. The billionaire tycoon Yoo Byung-un founded the Web site God.com, led a church many considered a cult, was once jailed for fraud, but only recently became internationally known as the focus of the largest manhunt in South Korean history. Now that search, which once included 9,000 cops and was renewed on Monday, seems to have come to a close. South Korean police announced Tuesday morning they had determined that a previously discovered body, found on June 12,

Emergency Services cops lowered the two rogue flags — which are the traditional symbol for “surrender” — and packed them up along with what appeared to be painting supplies. The discovery was made sometime this morning. Police are trying to figure out how someone was able to gain access to the bridge, which has patrol cars stationed on both sides and also has security cameras. Washington - A powerful federal appeals court dealt a major blow to ObamaCare on Tuesday, ruling against the legality of some subsidies issued to people through the Affordable Care Act exchanges. A three-judge panel ruled 2-1 on Tuesday that the IRS went too far in reinterpreting the language in ObamaCare to extend subsidies to those who buy insurance through the federally run exchanges, known as HealthCare.gov. The case, Halbig v Sebelius, is one of the first major legal challenges that cuts to the heart of the Affordable Care Act by going after the legality of massive federal subsidies and those who benefit from them.

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop
