Father whose son died in hot
car to face Georgia grand jury

Murder and child cruelty charges against a father whose son died after being left in a car will go to a grand jury after a Cobb County judge found probable cause for the charges Thursday. Justin Ross Harris was denied bail. He messaged six women, sending and receiving explicit texts -- some including nude images -- from work while his 22-month-old was dying in a hot car, a detective testified in the hearing. Harris´ attorney repeatedly objected to Cobb County, Georgia, police Detective Phil Stoddard´s testimony regarding Harris sexting the women -- one of whom was 17 -- but the judge allowed it

Good People from all walks of life are doing this due to overload of the brain. This guy is something different.
It is horrible ! The best suggestion I heard was to drive barefoot, putting your shoes under the child´s safety seat.

I still cannot fathom how anyone can "forget" their child at anytime.

Their priorities must be somewhere near inhuman to be distracted away from their MOST important priority.

So now we´re blaming "overload of the brain" for stuff like this?

A Cobb County police detective in charge of the investigation, Phil Stoddard, testified that he also thinks Harris may have committed sexual exploitation of a minor by sending a photo of his penis to a 16- or 17-year-old girl who had sent him pictures of her breasts.

Officials said he´d also watched videos on Reddit of people getting killed, had looked search for Georgia laws on the age of consent and had searched for "how to survive prison."

He said he left work about 4:15 PM to go to the movies with some friends. Got down the street a it and realized his son was in the car.

But a surveillance camera in the Home Depot lot captured him returning to the car at some earlier time to put light bulbs in the car. And those on the scene said there was a "smell of death" in the car.

Not clever enough, apparently.

From the LA Times article linked at #3, do you think his wife is in on this? Or just not too bright?

When Harris´ wife, Leanna, arrived at the daycare center in the afternoon and discovered that her son had never been dropped off there, witnesses reported that she said, “Ross must have left him in the car,” Stoddard said. When someone tried to comfort her and said there were "a thousand" reasons why he might not be at daycare, “She’s like, ´no,´” Stoddard testified.

And when he went ballistic in the interrogation room after she arrived, saying why was this happening to him? That he´d lose his job if he was found guilty of a felony:

"She said, ´did you say too much?´” Stoddard testified.

Odd things for his wife to say. And she was involved in taking out the insurance policies on the baby.

My dad´s sister left a child in a gas station bathroom one time, but she had nine children in the station wagon at the time, and thought she had counted heads correctly, until one of the older children realized one boy was missing.

At times, I have started to the grocery store on a Saturday, and realized I´d pulled into my work parking lot. But I don´t think I would forget my only son.

Perhaps if my husband had ever traded the chore of taking him to daycare with me, I might forget, but I doubt it. But when my son was in daycare, we worked at the same site, and were all in the car at the same time.

This case is simply horrific.

He put the little boy in the car seat on the back seat himself. Made a big point of telling detective that he always gave him a kiss when he did so. Then he drove to work, skipped nursery school, and went in to work. Even went out at lunch time and put something on the front seat.

After work he got into SUV and drove two miles before he pulled into a parking lot and realized his son was in the back seat in his car seat.

Law enforcement couldn´t understand his not being aware of the "smell of death" in the SUV. And he had not rolled his windows down.

Guilty as sin.

Sadly this is more common than people think.
"A mother is just as likely as a father to leave her child in a vehicle, the Post reported.
The people who have done it range in age and financial and educational background, experts say. A veterinarian, a doctor, a dentist, a professor, a school principal and a rocket scientist are among the parents who have accidentally forgotten about their children and are now among KidsAndCars´ members.
It doesn´t matter if a person is highly organized or often absentminded, though people with intense demands in their lives can have more stress and be more sleep-deprived -- two factors that can increase the likelihood their minds could be sidetracked away from a baby in the backseat, said David Diamond, a psychology and molecular physiology professor at University of South Florida.

The information from the news media seems to be very damning to him. But the news media twisted information about George Zimmerman into something it certainly wasn´t. It looks bad but I just don´t trust the news media or the prosecutors office.

The 2k$ insurance policy I can understand. It was probably just part of a policy that covered them all. And it´s common for burial expense.
But 25k$ I don´t understand. That´s way more than a reasonable funeral should cost. If I was an agent I would refuse to write such a policy. But again I don´t think that is enough money for murder for someone in the IT business.
I´m cutting him some slack but it´s getting harder to do so.

It takes three minutes to drive the less than half mile from that Chick FIl A to the Home depot corporate office, lights included. The two buildings, the Publix where they had lunch and the Home Depot where he bought lightbulbs are are visible one from the other. I drove it tonight to see. THERE IS NO WAY a man not on drugs could "forget" a baby he just brought out of the Chick Fil A and strapped into his seat in that short space. I just can´t believe it. If it were a long traffic filled commute, O.K. but this is about the space of a city block. Also that baby had to have been dead already when he tossed the lightbulbs in the car, he couldn´t smell that? Have you ever opened a hot car with a dirty diaper in it? And then hours later after work when it was worse? I can´t think why he´d do it. But looking at the area, I can´t believe accident either. It´s awful.

Re #11, the hearing was broadcast today. Many of us heard the testimony of Detective Stoddard. These reports seem to fairly accurately report that testimony.

A timeline was established with the father´s help. Unfortunately it and the distances followed and his varying statements to law enforcement. And plain old common sense tells us you don´t buckle a little kid into a car seat at home, set out to take him to preschool and instead go straight to your work parking lot

. And then come back at noon and put lightbulbs in the car. And then return after work to drive to a movie and go two miles in a closed up car with a dead body without knowing something is amiss.

Doesn´t anyone else think it odd that this 22 month old child didn´t make a single sound during the trip to the office?

Federal judge rules California´s

SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal judge declared California´s death penalty unconstitutional Wednesday, saying delays of 25 years or more in deciding appeals and carrying out occasional executions have created an arbitrary and irrational system that serves no legitimate purpose. For most of the 748 current Death Row inmates, "systemic delay has made their execution so unlikely that the death sentence carefully and deliberately imposed by the jury has been quietly transformed into one no rational jury or legislature could ever impose: life in prison, with the remote possibility of death," said U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney of Santa Ana.

It looks like Pope Francis is rethinking the idea of celibacy for clergy, and it’s about time. In a recent interview with the founder of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Pope Francis was asked about the church’s sex scandals and the requirement that priests be celibate. (Snip) The Vatican then sounded a cautionary note, saying La Repubblica’s article — which also claimed the pontiff said about 2% of Catholic priests are pedophiles — might not quote Pope Francis’ exact words, but reflected the “sense and spirit” of his feelings. JERUSALEM — Plans for a truce devolved into threats of a wider war Tuesday as the first significant attempt to end more than a week’s worth of round-the-clock fire between Israel and Hamas ended before it had even begun. The primitive folk assessed by many archaeologists as being the original native Americans - that is, the Clovis people - killed and ate the lovable prehistoric elephants that once inhabited the continent alongside them, scientists have found. The proto-dumbo species in question is known as the gomphothere. The luckless pachyderm was then scoffed by its peckish assailants. "This is the
