Don’t Recognize That Wireless

Bloomberg, by Olga Kharif

Original Article

The crackdown on unauthorized mobile-phone charges that led to a federal complaint against T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS:US) this week poses a threat to other U.S. carriers that fail to stamp out the practice and offer refunds. The Federal Trade Commission filed a suit this week accusing T-Mobile US Inc. of placing “bogus charges onto customers’ bills” for items such as flirting tips, horoscopes and celebrity gossip. Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell said in an interview he may seek to get reimbursements from all the top wireless providers for fees from the practice known as cramming -- and other states may

It´s a very real problem. My ATT wireless account was crammed. I spent an hour on the phone to get it stopped. During my conversation with the ATT rep it came out that the ATT marketing department was involved. I hope all the carriers get hit with fees and penalties and are forced to refund every cent.

Don´t know why T-Mobile is being singled out; my old AT&T account did this too. Maybe T-Mobile donated to a Republican or something.

President Obama insists on flirting with impeachment even as House Republican leaders insist there’s no such possibility. Obama uses a passive-aggressive strategy that can be judged as a political maneuver, a personality disorder, or both. Secure in the knowledge that impeachment is not the same as removal from office, Mr. Obama brings up the topic on his own and with bold defiance. Martyrdom goes well with a Messiah complex and Mr. Obama’s speeches are a non-stop litany of depicting himself as a victim of Republicans. Already operating beyond the constitutional bounds of presidential power, Mr. Obama’s strategy is to push the bounds

The Baltimore Ravens really are blessed. Let’s say Ray Rice, the team’s Pro Bowl running back, had tested positive for steroids. Under league rules, he would have faced a minimum four-game suspension. A punishment that severe might have gotten in the way of this fine team of men and their playoff drive. Instead Rice drove his hand into his then-fiancée’s head, knocking her cold last February in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. In the National Football League, domestic battery apparently counts as half-a-roid, good for a two-game suspension. After the N.F.L. handed down its suspension and a fine exceeding $500,000, and

Underpants bomber failed in mission

The notorious underwear bomber´s plot in 2009 to blow up a plane on Christmas Day failed because the explosives became ´degraded´ after he wore the same pair of underpants for two weeks, according to a U.S. official. Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was on a suicide mission when he attempted to detonate a bomb in his underpants as the plane, en route from Amsterdam, approached Detroit. The bomb however failed to detonate aboard the flight, which was carrying nearly 300 people, but caused a brief fire that caused burns to his groin.

GAZA CITY — Israel´s Security Cabinet unanimously rejected a cease-fire proposal Friday that called for a week-long truce in the deadly conflict. The proposal by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called for a temporary pause in fighting to allow Israelis and Palestinians to broker a broader deal. Israeli TV reported the deal was rejected mainly because Israel would have to cut short its effort at destroying Hamas tunnels. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon told troops Friday that Israel may significantly widen the Gaza ground operation.

The application window for HHS grants under the Unaccompanied Alien Children program just closed yesterday. According to the data included in the application the average length of stay for a UAC is 30-35 days prior to unification with a sponsor. Most (95%+) of the sponsors are relatives of the child. Most sponsors reunited are the mothers of the children (85%+) who actually brought them along and there is never a disconnect. All sponsors are subsidized by taxpayers at an average cost of around $4,000 to $6,000 per child/per month. A custodial ‘sponsor’ (mother) with three UAC’s will net about $12,000 per

There are no signature spirals or triple jumps in Michelle Kwan’s latest TV ad, just a straightforward pitch for her husband, Clay Pell, and his bid to be Rhode Island’s next governor. Kwan, a former world champion figure skater and two-time Olympic medalist, touts the Democrat’s plans for pay equality and strengthening laws against sexual harassment and domestic violence. It’s a clear bid to reach out to female voters, who will be key in the Democratic primary on Sept. 9. “Clay believes that I believe,” Kwan says in the spot. “We need equality for all women.” Kwan is no stranger to TV commercials

ST. Death-penalty opponents say the execution of an Arizona inmate who took two hours to die shows that state experiments with different drugs and dosages are a callous trial-and-error process. The result: Every few months, an inmate gasps, chokes and takes an unusually long time to die. I received a call from my sons’ school in March telling me that my oldest needed to be picked up early. He had been given a one-day suspension because he had thrown a chair. He did not hit anyone, but he could have, the school officials told me. JJ was 4 at the time. I agreed his behavior was inappropriate, but I was shocked that it resulted in a suspension. The president’s demeanor is worrying a lot of people. From the immigration crisis on the Mexican border to the Islamic State rising in Mesopotamia, Barack Obama seems totally detached from the world’s convulsions. When he does interrupt his endless rounds of golf, fundraising and photo ops, it’s for some affectless, mechanical, almost forced public statement. Regarding Ukraine, his detachment — the rote, impassive voice — borders on dissociation. His U.N. ambassador, Samantha Power, delivers an impassioned denunciation of Russia. Obama cautions that we not “get out ahead of the facts,” as if the facts of this case — Vladimir Putin’s

A year after news of the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke, former First Lady Hillary Clinton allegedly told a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist that it was former President Bill Clinton’s abusive mother that caused his unfaithfulness and sex addiction, a new book claims. That journalist was Lucinda Franks and while her latest book, “Timeless: Love, Morgenthau, and Me,” doesn’t have much to do about the Clintons, the part that does offers never before reported information from a 1999 interview with the former First Lady. The New York Daily News obtained parts of the book a month before its scheduled August 2014 release.

If the activists are right, the sweeping move would upend a contentious policy fight and carry broad political consequences. The activists met privately with the President and his aides June 30 at the White House, and say in that meeting Obama suggested he will act before the November midterm elections. hey hope his decision will offer relief to a significant percentage of the estimated

According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday, 33 percent of Americans think the president should be impeached and removed from office, compared with 65 percent who say they don’t support impeachment. Fifty-seven percent of Republicans say they support impeaching Obama, compared with just 35 percent of independent voters and 13 percent of Democrats. When asked about when Congress should attempt to impeach a president, 79 percent of Americans said it should only be used if there is evidence of a serious crime — such as

The IDF has not yet located and destroyed all of Hamas´ terror tunnels, but the consensus about the intent behind them is quite clear. This is Jonathan Dahoah HeLevi of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel, when taken together with his organization’s military build-up.
