New York--Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS.N) on Wednesday said Google Inc (GOOGL.O) has blocked access to an email containing confidential client data that a contractor sent to a stranger´s Gmail account by mistake, an error that the bank said threatened a "needless and massive" breach of privacy. The breach occurred on June 23 and included "highly confidential brokerage account information," Goldman said in a complaint filed on Friday in a New York state court in Manhattan. Goldman did not say how many clients were affected. It has been seeking a court order compelling Google to delete the email, which it

Everything that you send and receive on gmail is completely open to data mining. There is no expectation of privacy or confidentiality, at all. Even still, gmail is very useful for throw-away accounts.

CUTLER, Calif. — A Central California company has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of specific lots of its fresh peaches, plums, nectarines and pluots over concerns of possible listeria contamination. Wawona Packing says on its website that no illnesses have been reported and the recall is a precautionary measure. The company said the recalled fruit was packed and shipped to retailers from June 1 through July 12. Retailers that received the fruit include Costco and Trader Joe´s. The recall came after internal testing at the packing house in Tulare County. Officials say they shut down the lines, retrofitted some equipment

The rule of thumb is that when news is breaking and a crisis is unfolding, cable news networks see a big jump in viewership. Turns out that’s not the case if you are MSNBC. On the first full day of coverage of the Malaysia Airlines disaster and Israeli troop movement into Gaza the day before, the Comcast-owned news channel actually was down double digits among adults 25-54 both in total day and in primetime on July 18. While rivals CNN and Fox News Channel were up 16% and 13% in total day over the comparable day last year, when the

Unwilling to wait for Congress to pass the Employee Non-Discrimination Act, Obama signed an executive order Monday prohibiting organizations with federal contracts from discriminating against employees who identify themselves as gay, lesbian, or transgender. For religious freedom advocates, that could pose a major problem. Obama’s order does not provide an exemption for religious organizations, whereas the ENDA bill before Congress does. CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — Texas Gov. Rick Perry, seeking political redemption in Iowa, spent his weekend waiting almost two hours in a school cafeteria to speak to Republican activists, attending local church services and eating barbecue with fellow veterans. The former U.S. Air Force pilot´s two-day visit was his fourth trip to the state since the 2012 election, in what even he describes as a disastrous first try at the White House. "I know first impressions matter, but second impressions do as well," Perry, 64, said Sunday in an interview in Clear Lake, Iowa. "This country has been about second chances a

Taking questions from Facebook users at the social media giant’s California headquarters Monday evening, Clinton expressed some interest in the idea. “I would consider supporting an amendment among these lines that would prevent the abuse of our political system by excessive amounts of money

Texas Gov. Rick Perry will send 1,000 National Guard troops to help secure the southern border, where tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America have crossed into the United States this year in a surge that is deemed a humanitarian crisis. Perry will also call on President Barack Obama and Congress to hire an additional 3,000 border patrol agents for the Texas border, which would eventually replace the temporary guard forces, according to a person in his office with knowledge of his plans. He will make the announcement later Monday in Austin. Perry´s state has received the majority of migrant children,

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop

President Barack Obama said on Monday that he’s in favor of Washington, D.C., gaining statehood. “I’m in D.C., so I’m for it,” he said to a room of mostly young, minority boys who were at the White House for Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. “Folks in D.C. pay taxes like everybody else. They contribute to the overall well-being of the country like everybody else. They should be represented like everybody else.” Obama said he’s supported the idea of statehood for D.C. “for quite sometime” but acknowledged that “the politics of it” would make it something difficult to move through Congress.
