Leave your ´stupid hat´ at

Canceled. Rescheduled. As Hurricane Arthur gyrates up the East Coast, beachfront Fourth of July celebrations are falling flat -- and that could save lives, if it keeps revelers out of the water. "This is no time to put your stupid hat on," North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory told CNN´s "New Day" on Thursday, warning people to stay out of the ocean. Forecasters say a major risk from the storm will be potentially deadly rip currents. "Don´t get brave just because you see some good waves out there," he said. Reminds us that Chris Christie had gained a lot of favor with his "get the hell off the beach" comment. And then he hugged the Emperor days before the election.

Just no hugs, Gov. McCrory.

As to North Carolinians: never take a hurricane for granted. I still remember Cleo in Miami 1964. That one was supposed to stay harmlessly miles off shore, but wound up going right up Biscayne Blvd.

A force 1 hurricane is, sadly, all it takes for the nanny culture to kick into high wailing gear.

Next up: governor declares emergency to make disaster relief funds available. What is never explained is why such funds are not readily available to begin with and why a magic incantation from a governor, breathlessly repeated by the media, is even necessary for such common sense expenditures.

The government/media complex are addicted to Chicken Little reactionism to the weather. It makes them appear integral to daily life.

Prior to Memorial Day, 2011, Louis Zamperini visited Washington, D.C., where I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing him. The man was as sharp as the proverbial tack. He inscribed Laura Hillenbrand’s bestselling biography, “Unbroken” to me with “Be Hardy.” And he was. This is the column I wrote about him and what he stood for. The film of the book, directed by Angelina Jolie, will be released in December. Perhaps you’ve heard of him, perhaps not. Louis Zamperini has had fame, lost it and seen it restored more than once. Murder and child cruelty charges against a father whose son died after being left in a car will go to a grand jury after a Cobb County judge found probable cause for the charges Thursday. Justin Ross Harris was denied bail. He messaged six women, sending and receiving explicit texts -- some including nude images -- from work while his 22-month-old was dying in a hot car, a detective testified in the hearing. Harris´ attorney repeatedly objected to Cobb County, Georgia, police Detective Phil Stoddard´s testimony regarding Harris sexting the women -- one of whom was 17 -- but the judge allowed it

His disdain for congressional Republicans has steadily increased; his disrespect for their tactics has hardened into contempt.
