Highway crisis looms as soon as

WASHINGTON – Gridlock in Washington will lead to gridlock across the country if lawmakers can’t quickly agree on how to pay for highway and transit programs, President Barack Obama and his top officials warned Tuesday. States will begin to feel the pain of cutbacks in federal aid as soon as the first week in August if Congress doesn’t act, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a letter to states. That’s because the balance in the federal Highway Trust Fund is dropping and will soon go below $4 billion, the cushion officials say is needed for incoming fuel tax revenue to

What happened to the Stimulus money that was going to provide all those shovel ready jobs?
Remember all the signs that went up stating that this road/bridge/tunnel repair work was being provided by the Obama administration? Are those signs still up?
Remember Obama yukking it up about the shovel ready jobs not being shovel ready?

Easily twice as many drivers on the road than 30 years ago, and they still don´t raise enough money to maintain roads. Corker wants to add 12 cents per gallon over the next 2 years then increase the tax at the Rae of inflation.

I can only shake my head in sadness as I think of the trillions of dollars squandered on corruption and theft. End that, and we could run this nation in perpetuity.

I´m old enough to remember gas being .25/gallon and new highways were being built from the gas tax on that amount. Gas is now closer to $4/gallon and there´s not enough money to keep the highways and bridges in repair? That can happen when you start using the money for other things than what it was intended for.

Rory McIlroy´s father Gerry is in line for a share of a £200,000 jackpot should the Northern Irishman capitalise on his six-shot lead and win the Open Championship on Sunday. McIlroy’s father placed a £100 bet 10 years ago that his son would win golf’s oldest major before the age of 26 and the 25-year-old is the overwhelming favourite to secure his third major title after a stunning finish to his third round, including two eagles in the last three holes. WASHINGTON — THE thing about him is, he just keeps going. At 67, he continues to be, as Anna Quindlen once wrote, like one of those inflatable toys with sand weighting the bottom — you knock him over and he pops back up. The women, the cheesy behavior, the fund-raising excesses, the self-pity, the adolescent narcissism, the impeachment, the charges of racially tinged insults against Obama in 2008, the foundation dishabille — all that percussive drama has faded to a mellow saxophone riff for many Americans. It’s tricky to uphold Royal traditions when you’re not quite one – but Prince George has proved himself more than equal to the nation’s favourite: the walkabout. Invented by the Queen on an overseas tour in 1970 to ensure she was seen by her fans, it’s been an essential part of the Royal repertoire ever since. And now, in a portrait released to mark his first birthday on Tuesday, the third in line to the throne has shown he’s learned an early lesson from his great grandmother.
