Imelda Marcos´s kiss for her husband

The former first lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos celebrated her 85th birthday today by paying a solemn visit to the body of her husband. Mrs Marcos visited the crypt of former president Ferdinand Marcos in Ilocos Norte in the north of the country and even kissed the glass coffin where his body lays in a white jacket, ceremonial sash and polished medals. The former leader of the Philippines has remained unburied since his death in 1989 and has lay in a temperature-controlled mausoleum since 1993. And Mrs Marcos remarked that her birthday wish would be for her husband to

For Pete´s sake, Imelda, bury the poor guy.

(Temperature-controlled, eh? Who does Imelda think the old guy was, Lenin? Even in chilly Moscow Russian morticians have to do lots of work, and frequently, on old Vladimir´s body, temperature-controlled since 1924. Can you imagine anything more revolting? I´ve seen Vlad up close, and he´s not looking well at all.)

Having your body on display in a glass coffin is an almost guarantee that you were the personification of evil while you were alive.
Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Kim Il Sung, Kim jong Il, Hugo Chavez--all in glass coffins. It´s a way of making them into literal Idols to be worshiped.

Gaza City- Hamas claimed it captured an Israeli soldier Sunday on the deadliest day yet in the battle between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. The solider was taken during an early morning operation, according to Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas´ military wing, al-Qassam Brigades. He provided the supposed soldier´s name and ID. "He is a prisoner, and if Zionists lie about the dead and wounded, then the fate of this soldier is their responsibility," the spokesman said. Gunfire and cheers erupted in Gaza in apparent celebration of the soldier´s capture, according to CNN reporters on the ground.

On Saturday, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) said President Barack Obama´s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was a "down payment" to the Hispanic community before more grants of amnesty for illegal immigrants. Speaking at the National Council of La Raza conference in Los Angeles, Gutierrez said that Obama assured him during a White House meeting with Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus last week that he would be as "generous and broad" as he can to "stop the deportation of our people each and every day." "You gave us a down payment when you freed 600,000 DREAMers from deportation,"

Sunday, July 20, marks the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, when American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first person ever to plant boots on the dusty lunar surface. Buzz Aldrin followed about 20 minutes later. Most people assume that NASA always planned for Armstrong to be the first person to step out onto the moon because of his rank. Armstrong was commander of Apollo 11 and Aldrin

It wasn´t quite the stroll in the park Rory McIlroy would have liked but in the end the Ulsterman was able to cruise to the 2014 Claret Jug with a final-round 71 to win by two. When he started it looked like this major would look like his other two -- that is, complete and total routs. McIlroy birdied the first to go up seven strokes on Rickie Fowler but then made two bogeys in his next five holes to open the door. And wouldn´t you know it, our old friend Sergio Garcia strolled right on through. Garcia pulled to

The year was 1969. The turbulent time in America saw troops fighting in Vietnam, and a nation dealing with the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, killed in 1963, and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., both murdered in 1968. Then came that one small step. Forty-five years ago today, 500 million people around the world witnessed American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins as they embarked on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, and six hours later Armstrong was the first man to step

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio – An Army veteran who was wounded during the Iraq War is worried a citation will result in him losing his 14 pet ducks, which he says are therapeutic. Darin Welker, of West Lafayette, was cited with a minor misdemeanor June 23 for having the ducks in his yard. He is scheduled to appear in Coshocton Municipal Court for a hearing Wednesday and could face a $150 fine. Welker, 36, is afraid he won´t be permitted to keep the ducks, which he says help him with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder and keep him more active. The

Secretary of State John Kerry and Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace had a tense exchange Sunday morning, even before the two got to Kerry’s comments on an Israeli strike that were captured by Fox and played back to him. Wallace and Kerry first sparred over toughening sanctions on Russia following the downing of flight MH17, allegedly by Moscow-backed Ukrainian separatists. Wallace played a clip in which Obama seemed to acknowledge the ineffectualness of U.S. sanctions, a clip Kerry strongly suggested was taken out of context. But things got real heated after Wallace characterized the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear deal

The Israeli army had received prior intelligence that militants were going to try to use animals to carry out attacks, according to a press release on the Israeli Defence Forces website. It is at times like these, when he is pushed kicking and screaming into the crucible, that Obama’s callowness shows. For his supporters, that jejune, jocular air has been a plus for almost six years. For the rest of us, it has served as a liability and an irritation. Yesterday, it became a wholesale embarrassment. On the perpetual-campaign trail, the pattern is familiar. Trotting up to the podium, the president fist-bumps the audience’s stragglers and smiles a toothy and humble grin at those who catch his eye. At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer
