Bergdahl taking trips to
S.A. restaurants, stores

San Antonio Express-News [TX], by Sig Christenson

SAN ANTONIO — The Army said Wednesday that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the American POW who was released in a prisoner swap with the Taliban, has gone off the post in San Antonio for dinner and other excursions, and that he has been welcomed by those he meets. So far, Bergdahl has taken about 10 trips off Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston as part of a carefully staged plan to help reintegrate him into society. “I can´t give you specifics, just because I don´t want people camping out at those places, but he´s gone to restaurants, he´s gone to supermarkets,

There is reasonable belief that he was a deserter.

He should be preparing for a trial, not eating at restaurants and shopping.

If he is in Texas, people are going to be cordial to him -- since I´m sure they don´t know who (or what) he is. We are just that way down here. We treat people with kindness and courtesy.

But if they do find out who (and what) he is, don´t expect such a "friendly" reception. We don´t care much for traitors round these parts...

If Bergdahl is in uniform of course he is going to be treated cordially by the people he meets.

I really doubt that he is recognized for who he is. He looks like any other young guy in uniform.

They really are trying to worm their way out of this mess. The spin will be that he actually went undercover at the request of the government fed them invaluable Taliban secrets.

way back when in the dark ages of Zumwalt I know for personal fact that the Navy was aggressive in rounding up, incarcerating and trying AWOL & "Missing ships movement" and a substantial amount of the brig on the base was allocated to such.

Given the credible reports - not only of his teammates but the Army as well of his (at the very least) voluntary desertion - why is he not in the brig/stockade waiting COURTS-MARTIAL??

Perhaps his former comrades in arms will find out where he´s going on these little jaunts. That would be a very interesting scenario.

He must be a bag of broken glass, but then it sounds like he was never more than a cracked pot in the first place. I suppose one could argue he should never have been in uniform in the first place. And if he gets justice now he´ll be nothing but worm food.

He could go shopping at the PX and eat at several places on post. But I´d wager he´s allowed to do that off post for exactly the reasons mentioned here. Once he´s recognized by other soldiers it wouldn´t be a very nice reception.

Do You Know How Your Everyday

Matthew Colbert, a former campaign and Hill staffer, has launched a new app to help you put your money where your beliefs are. Before you buy a product, you can scan the bar code with the BuyPartisan app to “see the political donations of the CEO, Board of Directors and employees of the company you are buying from.” The app is free. Colbert told the Washington Post the main goal is to make “every day Election Day” through “spending choices.” Here is a sample screen shot of a barcode scan for Neutrogena face wash, which supports the GOP over Democrats

The former Secretary of State and rumored presidential candidate attracted a large crowd to a book signing event Wednesday at Bunch of Grapes. It was rainy and grey outside, but the mood was bright inside the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven Wednesday where Hillary Clinton fans were positively beaming. Ms. Clinton was in town to sign copies of her new book, “Hard Choices.” “We love you,” “Please run, we need you,” “I’m such a fan of yours,” and variations of the same were heard again and again from people who had waited in line, some for four hours,

A new report suggested that liberal billionaire Tom Steyer’s hedge fund profited from a $1 billion San Francisco light rail project pushed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. Steyer was also a big supporter of Pelosi. Despite being quick to criticize conservative political donors, the morning and evening news shows on ABC, CBS and NBC have all ignored the allegation since the Washington Free Beacon broke the story Aug. 12. According to Washington Free Beacon, Pelosi “steered more than a billion dollars in federal financing” to a transportation project to provide light rail access to the Mission Bay neighborhood

To hear the White House tell it, not all “boots on the ground” are created equal. The White House on Wednesday acknowledged that ground troops could be used in a humanitarian mission in Iraq to help Yazidi refugees surrounded by militants. Considering that President Obama had repeatedly pledged to avoid an extended ground campaign in Iraq, some accused the president of flip-flopping on the issue. But Obama has made a critical distinction on ground troops, the White House said in defending the possible action Wednesday. “What he’s ruled out is reintroducing U.S. forces into combat on the ground in Iraq,”

It is the very essence of the American Dream: an irrepressible confidence that our children will live better than we do. And now it is gone. It has been slipping for some time, really, but a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll this month put an exclamation point on Americans’ lost optimism. When asked if “life for our children’s generation will be better than it has been for us,” fully 76 percent said they do not have such confidence. Only 21 percent did. That was the worst ever recorded in the poll; in 2001, 49 percent were confident and 43 percent

It’s official: Obamaism is dead. Hillary Clinton killed it. It wasn’t so much a mercy killing as an expedient one, but that’s politics in the best sense. The important thing is that she broke the Democratic omertà code by stating the obvious: The president’s policy of having America sit on the sidelines of a burning world is a disaster that threatens our national security. An electrifying midterm rallying cry on a slow summer news day. Boehner, incidentally, isn’t one of the crappy-asses, she says. She doesn’t name names there, but she’s been known to diverge from grassroots conservatives in these matters before. What would happen, though, if Boehner turned around and made a deal with Harry Reid on amnesty in September? SWAT teams and angry protesters clashed in a small St. Louis suburb for a third day Tuesday, following the death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The eruption of protests and violence has been a long time coming. While I certainly do not condone rioting, examining the conditions surrounding Brown’s death — and the deaths of several other unarmed black men killed by law enforcement recently — makes clear that community reactions like those in Ferguson, Mo., are bound to happen. America has continued to isolate poor black people in economically depressed neighborhoods under increasingly oppressive police tactics that breed
