The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has 59,297 employees – 17.3 percent out of 342,089 workers total -- that make $100,000 or more in yearly salary, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Among those employees, 18,709 of them earn a salary of $180,000 or more. An OPM database, FedScope, contains historical data on the federal civilian workforce going back to 1998. The database holds information about civilian federal workers employed by most Executive Branch agencies (excluding intelligence agencies, the White House, and the Office of the Vice President) and some Legislative Branch agencies. That´s approx $3,367,620,000 dollars right there being sucked out of the private sector that will never be available to start a business, grow a business or pay for a college education.

What are these people doing besides not caring for ex-servicemen and women?

Let´s say that the average non fed employee pays 20% in fed tax, just for example. That would mean it would take 93,545 of them making $180,000 or more just to pay the wages of these 18,709 VA employees.
This is why the more tax paid employees there are the less able you are to pay them.
But they do such a good job, right?

Are people aware that the VA doesn´t answer their phones? After a 5 minute menu hop, the caller is told they are "too busy" to answer and to try again later. I tried for 5 days a week for 8 1/2 weeks to get through by phone to a live person. For the kind of money they are paid, those phones should be answered by a live person 24/7.

There is the problem with government-run anything. Administrative fees suck up all the money.
I will bet that over 15,000 of these individuals do not have any contact with veterans. The VA, like other government agencies, is top-heavy with bureaucrats. And they face steady pay increases, whether they do anything or not.
They get bonuses, too.
The more people there are in the enterprise, the more levels of administration there are, and thus the higher the pay scale must be. It takes a lot of bodies to produce all those phony reports to Congress!

SAN ANTONIO — Tesla Motors Inc. has selected Nevada as the site for its planned $5 billion “gigafactory,” an economic development prize expected to generate 6,500 jobs, two local officials confirmed Wednesday. That could mean Texas, California, Arizona and New Mexico — also competitors for the lithium-ion battery factory — are out of the running. However, a person familiar with the company´s plans told the Associated Press that a second site would still be prepared, in case Nevada is not able to deliver the incentives it has promised — or possibly to build a second factory. Speaking on H&R Block’s quarterly earnings conference call, CEO William Cobb said that the company was already taking steps to train its tax preparers based on the draft forms that the Internal Revenue Service has released to comply with Obamacare. “As expected, the forms are very detailed and can present significant complexity, depending on a filer’s coverage status during the year, income level, and household composition,” Cobb said.

Long-established species of commercial fish, like cod, herring and northern shrimp, are departing for colder waters.
