STATEWIDE- The state is now issuing EBT cards with a photo ID on them. Governor Paul LePage says this will help stop fraud and abuse, but democrats say it´s a waste of time and money. South Portland resident Shelby Macvane relies on her benefits to help pay the bills and take care of her daughter Ella. “I’m in college right now, not working,” she said. “It’s not much, but it helps.” Macvane says she is glad to hear the state is cracking down on fraud by forcing recipients to put their photo on their card. “I have heard a lot of

It´s useless. Law states an EBT cannot be denied if they know the PIN #.

Need to change the law for it to make a difference.

An EBT card is something that the poor would have. Therefore you aren´t discriminating against the poor. For an election, you have to match your picture.

So, instead of selling the card outright, the owner has to go shopping with the card´s buyer. Big deal. I doubt it will make any difference. People will always find a way to manipulate the system. They should just go back to the actual stamp booklets and cash for essentials. It, at least, had a stigma to it.

In the last few years, Dear Wife and I have both had to go grocery shopping for invalid neighbors who could not leave house, and sometimes could barely get out of bed. We used their EBT cards for them, and took absolutely nothing for out troubles.
Do I now presume that helping out your neighbor is a criminal act?

I´m puzzled. When I shop for groceries there are always people ahead of me using cards* to pay. In fact cash buyers are becoming rare.

The cashier never looks at the card, only at what the terminal says; approved or rejected.

So what will a picture on the card achieve? But if a state wants a picture then a\picture it is.

*I have to assume some of them are EBT cards. Am I wrong about that?

What they should do is put a digital photograph on modernized social security cards and issue them to everyone, citizens and aliens under age 55, who are authorized to work in the USA. Then make the cards verifiable through instant electronic means as commercial credit cards are authenticated today. Then make it mandatory to present the modernized social security card to the employer at hire, with the employer electronically verifying the validity of the card. It would not be long before illegal aliens using someone else´s card or completely bogus cards would no longer get hired to US jobs. Something tells me that the liberal Democrats and cheap labor Republicans would go nuts if it were proposed in congress to do that.

Big deal. I wrote on the back of my credit cards "Photo ID required." NEVER once have I been challenged.

All the cashiers care about is that the card is good for the amount of purchase.

Colorado aims to sell more legal pot

Denver - Seven months after Colorado legalized recreational pot, the state has an unexpected problem. It needs to grow more. Because even though sales have surged, only about 60% of the marijuana sold is the legal variety. The rest is either illegal or grown unregulated in the so-called gray market, where unlicensed citizens can grow for their own use. (Snip) "What that does is, (it) raises the prices and if the price is too high, then we can´t compete with the black market and that was our ultimate goal – we wanted to eliminate the black market," Kammerzell said.
