Open Carry Texas ‘regrets’ Target’s
request that open-carriers stop
bringing firearms to the store

Dallas Morning News, by Robert Wilonsky

Original Article

A month after Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America targeted Target for letting North Texas open-carriers stroll through the toy section with Oreos and AKs, the Big Box has finally released a statement asking shoppers to leave their long guns at home. This morning interim CEO John Mulligan wrote on the company’s blog that the company’s leadership has been wrestling with the “complex issue” for several weeks. And in the end, he writes, the team decided to join Chipotle, Chili’s, Starbucks and other companies by asking folks to shop without displaying their weapons. Says the statement: As you’ve likely seen in the media,

Comments:
Ironic that a store with a symbol and name of a "target" fears becoming one by it´s shopping moms.

Target and the others are right. A bunch of yahoos strolling around with long guns is an idiotic thing to do. I am 100% for carrying, but these blatant displays are counterproductive. If you saw someone walking up to your front door with a rifle, would you think nothing of it? Of course not.

#1, regarding walking up to my front door, if it´s slung I don´t have a problem. If it´s shouldered at the ready then there´s a problem to be solved.

Proper open carry only scares the unarmed hoplophobes and the brainwashed. They never consider the criminals around them who carry no matter what. A non-criminal can carry whenever he wants, open or concealed, per the right recognized by the constitution and imposed on the several states via the 14th - and no ´gun control´ law will ever stop criminals from being armed or make citizens safe from them.

Target is a business, as is Starbucks and Chipotle. Anything that going to frighten their customers is bad for business.

If the open carry guys want to protest (full disclosure: I open carry a pistol most summer days), let them protest at a government building.

I don´t think of it as a problem to carry a rifle slung on one´s back. So what? If were more common, nobody would think anything of it. The only reason why it bothers anyone is because the media has made all references to guns as being "scary" and they have created a fear in people that makes them think guns in public will automatically mean someone is out to kill innocent people. Nobody gave a second thought about guns in public 100 years ago. It is a media created fear.

Open carry in a Target store is for ignorant, attention seeking showoffs. I carry concealed every waking moment but the last thing I want is to call attention to the fact that I´m armed.

So, are you anti open carry folks subscribing to the notion that the 2nd Amendment is for some people but not for others? Are we being infested with Liberal Logic?

OK on the other side of the coin, are those who flash their weapons in the face of the public any different than the gays who flash their weapons in the face of the public?

Hmmmmmm.

Concealed carry has been proven effective in reducing crime.

Open carry seems in-your-face counter productive in places of business, and has not been part of the American culture for at least a century.

I´m not too excited about establishments asking for restraint on open carry.

I think the patent office should un-register the Target logo as being hostile.

But the yahoos who made this an issue are idiots. They forced Target´s hand.

Then again the concealed weapon should be more feared because you never see it until it´s fired.
Out here in the rural west an open carry doesn´t scare anyone.

Target is in no position to tick off more customers. After the credit card hacking, you could get an echo in local stores.

I am trusting someone with a CW permit to protect me more than the rent a cop at Target.

But hey, shoplifters and credit card thieves are always welcome.

The Obama administration is hoping that 4,000 Hellfire missiles might turn the tide in Iraq as the Middle Eastern nation takes on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Officials were told by the State Department last week that the Obama administration is trying to complete the sale with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Shiite-led government. Members of the Senate and House foreign relations committees will conduct a review of the planned sale. The process can take up to 40 days, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday. “As a matter of policy, we decline to comment on cases that have not been formally notified to Congress,”

Boston - He insists he’s not running for president a third time, but Mitt Romney is campaigning again in New Hampshire. The former Republican presidential nominee is set to endorse Senate candidate Scott Brown on Wednesday, campaigning publicly in New Hampshire for the first time since the early hours of Election Day 2012 as he continues a larger effort to re-emerge as a force in Republican politics. The day is supposed to be focused on Brown’s quest to defeat Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen this fall. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has reportedly been charged with corruption and influence peddling after being held for questioning for 15 hours. Mr. Sarkozy was held at Nanterre, just outside of Paris, where he was questioned on allegations that he violated campaign finance laws and abused his power to manipulate the legal system. Authorities officially charged him, his lawyer and a senior magistrate early Wednesday morning, according to several news outlets. Prosecutors accused Mr. Sarkozy of appointing a magistrate in Monaco, Gilbert Azibert, to a senior judicial position in exchange for under-the-table information regarding campaign finance probes against him.

An autopsy conducted on Michael Brown, the unarmed 18-year-old fatally shot by Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson last Saturday, shows that Brown was shot at least six times, twice in the head and all in the front of the body. The New York Times reported the results of a private autopsy conducted by Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by the Brown family. Baden conducted the autopsy on Sunday, according to the Times. One bullet entered the top of Brown’s skull. Four struck him in the right arm. All bullets hit Brown in the front of the body, according to

Violence continues in Ferguson, Missouri. It began on August 9 with the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager cut down by a white cop’s bullets. Peaceful demonstrations turned into looting, the local police went in with rubber bullets and tear gas, all hell broke loose and, eventually, Missouri’s governor pulled out the local police and sent in state officers instead. But the rioting only paused; it didn’t cease. [Snip] Observers might ask, “How can this be happening in an America that has elected a black president?” How can black kids still get killed by white cops and how

They say a prosecutor could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich, and this always seemed like hyperbole, until Friday night a Texas grand jury announced an indictment of governor Rick Perry. The “crime” for which Perry faces a sentence of 5 to 99 years in prison is vetoing funding for a state agency. The conventions of reporting — which treat the fact of an indictment as the primary news, and its merit as a secondary analytic question — make it difficult for people reading the news to grasp just how farfetched this indictment is. The Obama administration has done little to calm racial tensions as they spread from Manhattan to St. Louis to Los Angeles. Quite the opposite, some top officials have fueled African-American fears of racism with false accusations of anti-black discrimination. Attorney General Eric Holder’s race-baiting is no secret. Justice Department documents show the nation’s top cop gave thousands of dollars to help the Rev. Al Sharpton organize marches protesting the death of Trayvon Martin. Now he’s sent the civil-rights unit to St. Louis to do the same thing in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. Less known, however, is the role of Labor Secretary Thomas

Historians will have the rest of the century to unravel the mess that is the Barack Obama presidency. While they can explore these years of foreign policy disaster and domestic malaise at leisure, the rest of us have 29 more months to see just how awful things can get before he slides off to a lucrative retirement. But those who want to start the post-mortem on this historic presidency would do well to read Jackson Diehl’s most recent Washington Post column in which he identifies Obama’s hubris as the key element in his undoing. McDonald’s has a problem. For the first time in 10 years, the company generated less revenue in a month than it did a year before, and it’s not a blip. The world’s biggest burger chain has been posting lagging results for some time, particularly in the United States.
