Tim Howard Gives First Interview

USMNT goalie Tim Howard, whom Twitter nominated for president Tuesday afternoon, spoke to an adoring all-male Morning Joe panel Wednesday morning from Brazil, praising his teammates, picking Germany as his favorite for the competition, and casting doubt over the permanence of America’s soccer fever. “Because of the enormity of the World Cup, it’s hard to sustain that day-to-day,” Howard said. “But we should proud of ourselves as a country. The way that we’ve rallied behind our team has been incredible. I play in Europe, I see some of these European countries, unfortunately they don’t get behind their team as our

If you painted an acre of grass, and were to sit next to it, watching the paint dry as the grass grew, it would still be more exciting than soccer.

Wht is less interesting than soccer is reading posts by people complaining about how they have no interest in soccer.

No one is making you read this thread so why ruin it for those that do care?

I don´t care what his view might be on PETA. I care very much that his goalie performance was spectacular. Congratulations, Mr. Howard.

Those that post on a soccer thread just to say that they hate soccer also post on the Academy Awards threads that they haven´t been to the movies since The Duke died and of course haven´t watched a tv show filmed after Opie and Andy.

I think the anti-soccer posts are to prove they are 100% patriotic Americans who won´t associate themselves with anything "European".

In his spare time, Mr. Howard (and numerous members of the Fourth Estate) might take note:

"Enormity" does not mean "bigness." It means "awfulness." As in "The enormity of the offenses was breathtaking."

"Enormousness," although clumsy, is the word for "bigness" or "hugeness" or, if you must, "humongousness."

But hey -- we´ve proven that any illiterate imbecile can run and be elected. More than once.

An Illinois judge this week ruled that a police SWAT team was within its rights to raid the house of a man who ran a Twitter parody account based on the Peoria, Ill. mayor, according to The Guardian. In April, four SWAT officers entered the house of Jacob Elliott´s Peoria house after the city´s mayor alerted the police to a Twitter account @peoriamayor, a fake account that depictedMayor Jim Artisas a drunk and a drug user. During the raid, the police searched the entire house, seizing phones and computers, according to the Journal Star. Elliott´s roommate, Jon Daniel, created the fake

A significant benefit of the Affordable Care Act is the opportunity to receive money-saving tax credits up front to cut the overall cost of health insurance, but now hundreds of thousands of consumers could owe back some of that money next April. Those affected took advance payments of the premium tax credit for health insurance. Some married couples could owe $600 or $1,500 or $2,500 or even more. It might feel like a raw deal for some who are already suffocating under the escalating costs of health insurance. "Health insurance is confusing enough, and now they´re adding the complexities of

Chuck Todd: Midterms are ‘Starbucks

On Meet the Press Sunday morn, host Chuck Todd found a new way to say the exact same thing political pundits have been saying daily for the past year: the 2014 midterms structurally favor Republicans thanks to the Senate seats at play. Or in Todd’s new red-state-blue-stateish formulation, it’s Starbucks Nation vs. Chick-Fil-A country. The chain-based heuristic refers to urban areas that vote Democratic versus ex-urban and rural areas that vote Republican. In 2012 the battleground states favored urban, Starbucks-pocked areas, hence Obama’s win; in the upcoming election, the toss-up states are more rural,

While enteroviruses in general are quite common, this particular strain — enterovirus 68 — has not cropped up terribly often since it was first identified in 1962. It can cause severe breathing problems, a particular danger for children who may suffer from asthma or other

President Barack Obama and his daughters had just departed the White House on Friday evening when an intruder scaled the north fence, darted across the lawn and into the presidential residence, where agents nabbed him. The security breach triggered a rare evacuation of much of the White House, with Secret Service officers drawing their guns as they rushed staffers and journalists out a side door.

Three and a half months have come and gone and the Pentagon has offered no clarity on what happened to alleged Army deserter and Taliban collaborator Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Fellow soldiers and other critics fear the military’s now-delayed investigation is shaping up to be a whitewash. The case has become a political powder keg for President Obama. Since he traded five imprisoned Taliban leaders for Bergdahl, the US Government Accountability Office has declared the swap illegal, and nearly two dozen House Democrats have joined Republicans in officially condemning the move for making “Americans less safe.”

Analysts and recent polls have found Brown closing in on US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the Democratic incumbent he is vying to unseat, in a race that has become increasingly nasty and expensive. Once largely dismissed by critics as an unlikely second act in a state he moved to only last year, Brown’s Senate bid is increasingly seen as a plausible path back to the US Capitol.
