Tim Howard Gives First Interview

USMNT goalie Tim Howard, whom Twitter nominated for president Tuesday afternoon, spoke to an adoring all-male Morning Joe panel Wednesday morning from Brazil, praising his teammates, picking Germany as his favorite for the competition, and casting doubt over the permanence of America’s soccer fever. “Because of the enormity of the World Cup, it’s hard to sustain that day-to-day,” Howard said. “But we should proud of ourselves as a country. The way that we’ve rallied behind our team has been incredible. I play in Europe, I see some of these European countries, unfortunately they don’t get behind their team as our

If you painted an acre of grass, and were to sit next to it, watching the paint dry as the grass grew, it would still be more exciting than soccer.

Wht is less interesting than soccer is reading posts by people complaining about how they have no interest in soccer.

No one is making you read this thread so why ruin it for those that do care?

I don´t care what his view might be on PETA. I care very much that his goalie performance was spectacular. Congratulations, Mr. Howard.

Those that post on a soccer thread just to say that they hate soccer also post on the Academy Awards threads that they haven´t been to the movies since The Duke died and of course haven´t watched a tv show filmed after Opie and Andy.

I think the anti-soccer posts are to prove they are 100% patriotic Americans who won´t associate themselves with anything "European".

In his spare time, Mr. Howard (and numerous members of the Fourth Estate) might take note:

"Enormity" does not mean "bigness." It means "awfulness." As in "The enormity of the offenses was breathtaking."

"Enormousness," although clumsy, is the word for "bigness" or "hugeness" or, if you must, "humongousness."

But hey -- we´ve proven that any illiterate imbecile can run and be elected. More than once.

The U.S. knows Russia and Iran are providing fighter aircraft to help Iraq combat Islamic extremists, but Washington is not coordinating assistance with either Russia or Iran, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said Friday. Hagel was asked at a Pentagon news conference about reports that Iranian and Russian planes are flying combat missions over northern Iraq and why Washington is not seeking to coordinate with them. "We are aware of the Iranian and Russian efforts to help the Iraqis, but we are not involved in coordinating any missions," (Snip) A defense official said later that Hagel did not mean to suggest

GUATEMALA CITY— The body of a 15-year-old migrant was brought home Friday, nearly a month after he died in the hot, dry brushland of southern Texas and became a symbol for the perils facing unaccompanied children who have been flooding illegally into the U.S. The remains of Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez were flown to Guatemala City in a cargo plane and turned over to his father at the airport´s small chapel. Gilberto´s father, Francisco Ramos, then took the gray and silver coffin with a photo of the boy attached to it in a pickup truck to his mountain hometown of

NEW YORK — The full moon on Saturday will appear to be unusually big. In fact, it will be a “supermoon.” That’s the nickname for full moons that happen when our celestial neighbor is relatively close to Earth. That distance varies because the moon follows an elliptical orbit. When it’s close and full, it appears bigger and brighter than normal, although in fact the difference can be hard to detect. If you see Saturday’s moon close to the horizon it may seem huge, but that’s just an illusion caused by its position in the sky. Two other full moons this

Bunker Hill, Illinois -Phil Burton remembers his daughter being very matter of fact over the phone that day. ‘Daddy I’m getting married to Charlie,’ she said. He wasn’t surprised. He had long ‘seen the writing on the wall.’ And he knew there would be no need to place an announcement in the local paper. Because his daughter’s fiancé is one of the most infamous convicted killers of all time and the story was about to break. It is eight months since Charles Manson’s 26-year-old girlfriend announced her intention to marry the 79-year-old convict. Dark-haired, slender and strikingly pretty, little was known,

The Clinton Foundation and the terror group Hamas share a key donor: The government of Qatar, a leading backer of terror groups that has emerged in recent years as Hamas’ chief financial lifeline. Qatar, which has been designated by the State Department as a “significant terrorist financing risk,” has pledged more than $400 million to Hamas since 2012 and has long harbored one of the terror group’s senior leaders, Khaled Mashaal. At the same time, Qatar has sought to curry favor with elite Westerners, donating between $1 million and $5 million through 2013 to the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it.
