Beirut - A young, red-bearded ethnic Chechen has rapidly become one of the most prominent commanders in the breakaway Al Qaeda group that has overrun swaths of Iraq and Syria, illustrating the international nature of the movement. Omar al-Shishani, one of hundreds of Chechens who have been among the toughest jihadi fighters in Syria, has emerged as the face of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, appearing frequently in its online videos — in contrast to the group´s Iraqi leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who remains deep in hiding and has hardly ever been photographed. Mogadishu, Somalia — A year ago, Somalis dared to hope this troubled east African country had turned a corner, leaving behind the chaos and violence of a past marred by terrorism. Now, residents are bracing for fresh attacks as extremists seek revenge following the death of Ahmed Abdi Godane — leader of the militant group al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda linked organization in Africa — earlier this week by a U.S. airstrike. Abu Mohammed, a commander of the terror group confirmed Godane was killed and said the militants unanimously chose Abu Ubeid Ahmed Omar as their new leader Saturday.

Henin was held for a time with American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, both beheaded by extremists from the Islamic State group in recent weeks. Latino groups on Saturday promised they would "not soon forget" President Obama´s move to delay any executive action on the border crisis until after the midterm elections. A White House official said Obama decided to postpone acting on immigration until after November because of the tremulous political season and "Republican´s extreme politicization of the issue." But immigrant rights and Latino advocacy groups were quick to place blame on Obama and Democrats after hearing the news. "To wait nine more weeks means that I must again look my mother in the eye and see the fear she has about living under the threat of

US District Court Judge George A. The decision means that the testing procedures of the exams, used by the BPD and several other departments in Massachusetts between 2005 and 2008, will not be required to change. Judge O’Toole sided with the city of Boston which had argued at trial that the exams were the only adequate option of assessing candidates for promotion. The ruling drew instant backlash. “The decision is entirely wrong, particularly with respect to the

Rio De Janeiro - A former grass-roots environmentalist who once dreamed of becoming a nun has stormed to the forefront in Brazil’s presidential campaign, just three weeks after joining the race. The first round of voting is still a month away. But Marina Silva’s dramatic rise in the polls as she seeks to unseat President Dilma Rousseff of the Workers Party has shaken the country’s political establishment. Five men who were wrongly convicted of raping and brutally beating a jogger in New York’s Central Park 25 years ago are being awarded $41 million (£25 million) in damages. (Snip) Their representatives argued that treatment of the case had racial undertones amid paranoia about the American city’s crime rate and the men’s initial admissions were the result of exhaustion and police coercion following lengthy interrogations. Cairo - Egypt charged ousted president Mohamed Mursi and nine others on Saturday with endangering national security by leaking state secrets and sensitive documents to Qatar, furthering a state crackdown on his outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. Relations between Qatar, a Gulf Arab state, and Egypt have been icy since July 2013, when Egypt´s then-army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi toppled Mursi after protests against his rule. Qatar had supported Mursi, who is already in jail along with thousands of Brotherhood members, many of whom have been sentenced to death on separate charges.

In his autobiography, Dreams From My Father, the President wrote that in his teenage years “I tried my best to be cool at all times” (p. 82). The revelation set off a new round of investigations and congressional hearings. The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee on Friday said new allegations that U.S. commandos were ordered to “stand down” during the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, aren’t supported by findings from House and Senate investigators.
