Bill Clinton’s strained comparison

Washington Post, by Glenn Kessler

“When ten different instances occurred when President Bush was in office where American diplomatic personnel were killed around the world, how many outraged Republican members of Congress were there? Zero.” –Former president Bill Clinton, interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” June 29, 2014 Republicans have held numerous hearings over the 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, which left four Americans dead, including the U.S. ambassador. Former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton has been a frequent target of those hearings, and her husband clearly is irritated by the attention. What’s he talking about when he refers

It is typical Clinton double-talk -- enough truth to make it believable until you look in to the actual facts. He did it his entire presidency and since and the media never hold his feet to the fire.

And how many Americans died in "diplomatic deaths" during the former Commander-in-Heat´s term from 1993-2001. Seems I remember at least a couple embassy bombings during that time frame.

We´re any the result of a sustained attack that went unanswered with the military waiting for a green light from a president worried more about his reelection ? And Bill I have seen enough of your boneyard finger which is always a prelude to you lying to the American people.

Moral clarity in Gaza
Washington Post, by Charles Krauthammer    Original Article

Israel accepts an Egyptian-proposed Gaza cease-fire; Hamas keeps firing. Hamas deliberately aims rockets at civilians; Israel painstakingly tries to avoid them, actually telephoning civilians in the area and dropping warning charges, so-called roof knocking. “Here’s the difference between us,” explains the Israeli prime minister. “We’re using missile defense to protect our civilians, and they’re using their civilians to protect their missiles.” Rarely does international politics present a moment of such moral clarity. Yet we routinely hear this Israel-Gaza fighting described as a morally equivalent “cycle of violence.” This is absurd. What possible interest can Israel have in cross-border fighting? MOSCOW — A suspected Russian-made surface-to-air missile downed a Malaysia Airlines jet in a separatist-controlled corner of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, prompting the Ukrainian government to denounce an “act of terror” that killed all 298 people on board. U.S. intelligence officials confirmed, but could not identify the origins of, the missile strike that led to the deadliest downing of a civilian passenger plane in recent decades. One Ukrainian government official, however, said the Boeing 777 traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur appeared to have been hit by an advanced Russian-made missile system that recently came into the hands of the

Obama has a lot of yucky vegetables on his big boy plate, these days. But being president, he doesn´t have to eat them. He can skip all the gross stuff and go right for the ice cream. During the Green Revolution in Iran five years ago, "No Drama Obama"did just that. The Islamic Republic was at a tipping point in the summer of 2009. With just a little encouragement from the US, regime change was possible. That would have been great for the Iranian people and made the world a safer place. But while the world looked to America for

Hours after Microsoft announced that it would be slashing 18,000 jobs on Thursday, Sen. Jeff Sessions (A-AL) issued a challenge to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and other Democrats who voted for the Senate´s comprehensive immigration bill: Prove that there is a shortage of American high-tech workers. Speaking on the Senate floor, Sessions mentioned that just a week before Microsoft´s announcement, Microsoft´s former CEO Bill Gates joined with two other "masters of the universe" to urge Congress to remove limits on the number of guest-worker visas that can be awarded. "So today I´m going to issue a challenge to

North Texas city rejects partial fracking ban

DENTON, Texas — The council governing a North Texas city that sits atop a large natural gas reserve rejected a bid early Wednesday that would have made it the first city in the state to ban further permitting of hydraulic fracturing in the community. Denton City Council members voted down the petition 5-2 after eight hours of public testimony, sending the proposal to a public ballot in November. Fracking involves blasting a mix of water, sand and chemicals deep into underground rock formations to release trapped oil and gas. While the method has long stirred concerns about its effects on

The Environmental Protection Agency bowed to fierce criticism Wednesday and announced that it had hit the breaks on a fast-tracked plan to collect fines by garnishing paychecks of accused polluters. The agency, which has come under withering attacks from Republican lawmakers for attempting a “power grab,” said it still intended to pursue the new authority to garnish wages without a court order. But now it will follow a more typical and longer review process. Opponents of the wage-garnish rule applauded EPA’s decision. “It’s about time this abuse-prone agency listened to Congress and backtrack on a rule that was clearly an

While much of the focus in the illegal immigrant surge has been on border security, the federal government does a poor job of ensuring relatives who claim children who enter the U.S. illegally are giving them the care they need, according to internal audits that suggest problems remain despite years of warnings. The Obama administration says its priority is to make sure the children get a fair hearing and protections to which they are entitled — but the recent surge has so overwhelmed officials that they are cutting corners in background checks, meaning some children are turned over to parents

JERUSALEM — On a day rattled by a fury of air attacks, Israel and Hamas found themselves Wednesday searching for a way forward, with a senior Israeli military official declaring that a ground invasion of Gaza was a “very high possibility.” Israel announced that it will observe a unilateral “humanitarian truce” for five hours Thursday to allow Gaza residents to stock up on food and other supplies and let aid reach civilians. The pause in fighting was requested by the United Nations, said another military official, army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner. It was unclear whether Hamas would also hold

In the foyer of the Central Intelligence Agency’s headquarters, there is a marble wall covered in stars. They are carved divots that represent those who have fallen in the service of the CIA. Below them, jutting out from the polished rock, is a black book entombed in a case of glass and steel. The book is a guide to the stars, giving the names of some of those who died and withholding the names of others. On the pages of the CIA’s Book of Honor are 107 hand-drawn stars organized by the years those officers died. For 2007, there is

SO FAR Hamas’s military campaign against Israel has been a dismal failure. Thanks in part to Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system, some 1,200 rockets fired at Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities have caused only one Israeli death and a few other casualties. Attempted commando attacks via the sea and a tunnel were stopped short, and a drone that ventured into Israel was quickly shot down. Yet Hamas on Tuesday rejected an Egyptian cease-fire proposal that was supported by Western governments and the Arab League and had been accepted by Israel. Why would Hamas insist on continuing the fight when

Sarah Palin is right about impeaching President Obama. No, not that the president should be impeached. But Palin is correct in arguing that, for those who assert that Obama has grievously abused his executive authority, impeachment is the proper course of action. Of course this won’t happen, for the obvious reason that this tactic didn’t go so well for Republicans last time. Hence House Speaker John Boehner’s curt dismissal of Palin’s call for impeachment: “I disagree.” Boehner’s alternative — a lawsuit — offers the political benefits of draining impeachment fever from the more rabid Republican precincts while rallying the base

After President Barack Obama breathlessly addressed four different foreign-policy issues during a 10-minute statement, he summed up the state of a crisis-filled world in one sentence. "We live in a complex world and at a challenging time," Obama said. Obama touched on the laundry list of global flashpoints situations during a statement from the White House on Wednesday — the disputed elections in Afghanistan, the negotiations on Iran´s nuclear program, the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, and, finally, the conflict in Ukraine. The most significant recent development in these situations was the announcement of new sanctions on Russia shortly before the president spoke. Obama described those
