The Michigan soccer referee critically injured this weekend after he was sucker-punched during an adult-league game died Tuesday in an area hospital. John Bieniewicz, 44, was left in critical condition Saturday in Livonia after witnesses say he was punched in the head as he reached down for a red card. The time for games is over. On Tuesday, America got a horrific wake-up call: Islamic State terrorists released a gruesome video that shows them beheading James Wright Foley, an American photojournalist held in Syria since 2012. The group also showed another US journalist held hostage, Steven Joel Sotloff, and threatened to murder him as well. “The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision,” declares the masked terrorist as he holds Sotloff by the neck. True, that puts President Obama in a difficult spot. But the president must do whatever it takes to counter this vicious savagery:

Two recent interviews have been the topic of lively debate within the so-called “foreign-policy community.” First, President Obama told The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman that he envisioned a world in which wars end with “no victor, no vanquished.” Can you imagine Franklin Roosevelt or Winston Churchill embracing such an idea? Even more inconceivable: that those who proclaim themselves jihadis would do anything but laugh their heads off (you should excuse the expression) if they heard it. Next, Hillary Clinton told The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, “Great nations need organizing principles,” and that Mr. Obama’s motto, “Don’t do stupid stuff,” is “not

EDGARTOWN, Mass.— President Barack Obama says the United States will continue to confront Islamic State extremists despite the brutal murder of journalist James Foley. Obama says the entire world is “appalled” by Foley’s killing. The president says he spoke Wednesday with Foley’s family and offered condolences. He says the Islamic State abducts women and children, and tortures, rapes, enslaves and kills people. He said the Islamic State targets Christians and other minorities and aims to commit genocide. Obama spoke Wednesday from Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, where he’s vacationing with his family, a day after the militants released a video showing the American journalist

President Obama returned to his vacation home at Martha’s Vineyard after briefly interrupting his vacation for two days of meetings in Washington, D.C. Obama met with his economic team Tuesday before leaving the White House at 4:22 pm to return to his vacation home. He did not react to the news that broke later that evening about an ISIS video that showed the beheading of American journalist James Wright Foley. The National Security Council reacted, however, in a statement provided by spokesperson Caitlin Hayden. “We have seen a video that purports to be the murder of U.S. citizen James Foley by ISIL,” Hayden said.

From nearly 1,000 miles away, several Redskins players used the Monday Night Football stage to draw attention to the situation that has been unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri by running onto FedExField with their hands up in the air. Ferguson is where unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer on Aug. 9. Witnesses have said he was not aggressive toward the officer and had his hands raised above his head before he was shot. As a result, the words “hands up, don’t shoot” have become a rallying cry of protesters, both in Ferguson and online.
