Tens of thousands of Hong

push for greater democracy

HONG KONG – Tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents marched Tuesday through the streets of the former British colony to push for greater democracy in a rally fueled by anger over Beijing´s recent warning that it holds the ultimate authority over the southern Chinese financial center. Organizers expected the crowd to swell to at least 150,000 and were hoping as many as 500,000 would turn out to call for reforms allowing residents to elect their leader. The protest comes days after nearly 800,000 residents voted in a mock referendum aimed at bolstering support for full democracy.

Comments:
July 1, 1997 was the handover from the UK to Beijing. Its anniversary has become a day of protest, according to the article.

The people of Hong Kong believe that Beijing does not respect the principle of "one country, two systems" under which its people enjoy civil liberties that are not given to those in mainland China.

We travel to Hong Kong frequently as we have many friends there. We just got back a few weeks ago as a matter of fact and one of our HK friends was talking about this very thing. Does not surprise me to see it happening.

Reports are beginning to surface from the 300-plus citizen-organized protests on July 18-19 focused on deep concerns about the immigration surge of supposed “refugees” swamping our border control resources, under the banner of the “National Days of Protest against Immigration Reform Amnesty & the Illegal Immigration Surge”. "With a coalition of more than 50 groups and organizations of various sizes, protests against illegal immigration and the Obama inspired surge of illegals at America’s borders took place in more than 300 locations. Russian billionaires ‘in horror’

MOSCOW — Russia’s richest businessmen are increasingly frantic that President Vladimir Putin’s policies in Ukraine will lead to crippling sanctions and are too scared of reprisal to say so publicly, billionaires and analysts said. If Putin doesn’t move to end the war in Ukraine in the wake of last week’s downing of a Malaysia Air jet in rebel-held territory, he risks becoming an international outcast like Belarus’s Aleksandr Lukashenko, whom the U.S. famously labeled Europe’s last dictator, one Russian billionaire said on condition of anonymity. What’s happening is bad for business and bad for Russia, he said.

With the season winding down and Tiger Woods actually playing some golf these days a lot of eyes are on what´s going to happen with the Ryder Cup team. US captain Tom Watson shot 68 on Sunday at the British Open which was seven (!) shots better than Woods´ 75 and the cap´n finished five shots ahead of Woods for the tournament. Woods said he was rusty because he hasn´t played very much since his back surgery in March, but when asked about the Ryder Cup Woods said he would pick himself (of course he would). Using information within the TAGGS system for Health and Human Services we are able to identify the recipients for Grants specifically designated for “Unaccompanied Alien Children”, or UAC’s. With that data, a few more search tools, some time and a little more research, we are able to identify the locations of facilities throughout the country where the HHS grants are being directed and the UAC’s are being transferred/housed. There are essentially two broad types: Residence Care, and Transitional to Foster Care Services. From the FY 2014 HHS Grants we can identify the communities where direct HHS UAC funds have been sent. Rory McIlroy was grounded and befuddled as he missed the cut at last year’s Open at Muirfield. This year, he is soaring above the field at Royal Liverpool: turning its par 5s into his personal playgrounds. Still just 25, McIlroy has won his

As Israel continued its deadly assault on the Gaza Strip, Hamas militants sneaked into the country on Saturday and killed two soldiers, delivering the worst blow to the Israeli military on its side of the Gaza border in years. After sunset, loud Israeli artillery barrages were beginning in the north. The morning attack, along with another later in the day that the military said it foiled, highlighted what Israel is coming to see as a security threat more dangerous than the Islamic militant group´s arsenal of rockets. The raids also showed the militants are energized, set against Israel´s deepening resolve to continue its

At a political event in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, President Obama devoted only 40 seconds to the shooting down of the Malaysian airline, his first statement to the world following the news. His emotionless reference to the attack as ‘a terrible tragedy’ seemed disconnected from the horrific moment, particularly as he immediately reverted to script to praise his administration and criticise Republicans. It was a far cry from President Reagan’s 1983 fierce denunciation of the Soviet shooting down of a Korean airliner as a ‘crime against humanity’. But it only confirmed the chaos into which US foreign policy has descended since the summer

Convinced that their region has suffered as much Obama administration meddling as it can possibly stand, Israel and Egypt took the extraordinary step earlier this week of jointly rejecting requests by US Secretary of State John Kerry to involve himself in ceasefire talks with the terrorist group Hamas. Israeli and Egyptian diplomats both claim Egyptian efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed as a direct result of Secretary Kerry’s announcement he was prepared to join the talks. He apparently made the announcement without first consulting either of the parties. The diplomats are convinced that their own

LOS ANGELES — Actor James Garner, whose whimsical style in the 1950s TV Western “Maverick” led to a stellar career in TV and films such as “The Rockford Files” and his Oscar-nominated “Murphy’s Romance,” has died, police said. He was 86. He was found dead of natural causes at his home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles Saturday evening, Los Angeles police officer Alonzo Iniquez said early Sunday. Police responded to a call around 8 p.m. PDT and confirmed Garner’s identity from family members, Iniquez told The Associated Press. There was no immediate word on a more specific cause of death. Garner had suffered a stroke in May 2008, just weeks after his 80th birthday.

A pernicious, little-known Obama administration policy – one that that incentivizes adult illegal immigrants to use children as human shields to escape arrest and deportation at the border – largely has escaped the media’s notice. This same policy is driving the historic surge of children at the border, as everyone from coyotes to illegal immigrant adults already in America seeks to use children to guarantee their safe passage into the country, or to protect them from deportation if they are illegally living here. The flood of illegal immigrant children, piling up like human debris on the US border, won’t stop
