In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Nima Elbagir by phone, Mariam Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian woman who initially faced a death sentence for refusing to renounce her faith, spoke about the ordeal she faced while jailed. Part of that ordeal involved child birth, which she explained presented challenges to her and to the health of the child. "I gave birth chained. Not cuffs but chains on my legs. I couldn´t open my legs so the women had to lift me off the table. I wasn´t attached to the table," she said. "I don´t know in the future whether she´ll need.

Tell me again with a straight face, how Islam is a religion of peace. Does the left really understand what they are signing up for with all their tolerance and accommodations?

Obama Was For Our
Total Withdrawal From Iraq

Before heading off to Operation Martha´s Vineyard, this morning, the president held a brief press conference on the White House lawn to discuss his decision to use air strikes against ISIS in Iraq. Asked if he was having second thoughts about the American withdrawal from Iraq in 2011, and if that gives him pause since the U.S. is doing the same thing in Afghanistan, Obama launched into his trademark doublespeak: “What I think is interesting is how often this keeps coming up as if it was my decision,” Obama answered. "Under the previous administration, we had turned over the country

In his regular appearance on PBS’s “NewsHour” on Friday, New York Times columnist David Brooks weighed in on how the United States should handle the spread of ISIS in northern Iraq, particularly regarding the humanitarian crisis. Brooks argued against the Obama administration basing foreign policy on polling data because Americans are insulated from what’s going on around the world. “That’s why you can never run a foreign policy on the polls,” Brooks said. “The polls would have been against Hitler in 1933. That was clearly the wrong thing to do against doing anything against Hitler in the 1930s. The American

The New York Times doesn´t come right out and say it was New Media that finally drove Obama to admit he withdrew from Iraq prematurely by ordering airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq. But when the New York Times admits that the specter of Benghazi is what drove Obama to action, that is exactly what the Times is saying: Looming over that discussion, and the decision to return the United States to a war Mr. Obama had built his political career disparaging, was the specter of an earlier tragedy: the September 2012 attack on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, which

Saturday from the White House South Lawn, President Barack Obama blamed "intelligence estimates" for not anticipating the speed in which ISIS would capture large sections of Iraq. WASHINGTON — President Obama sought to prepare Americans for an extended presence in the skies over Iraq, telling reporters on Saturday that the airstrikes he ordered this week could go on for months as Iraqis try to build a new government. “I don’t think we’re going to solve this problem in weeks,” Mr. Obama said before leaving for a two-week vacation on Martha’s Vineyard. “This is going to be a long-term project.” The president repeated his insistence that the United States would not send ground combat troops back to Iraq. But he pledged that it and other countries would stand

Crotch-tweeting ex-congressman Anthony Weiner plans to open a restaurant in the Rockaways, featuring what is described as “locally sourced food,” according to a report. The Rockaway Restoration Kitchen, which is in its early development phases, will serve up healthy grub and provide jobs to unemployed New Yorkers, according to the paper. The eatery will sell “locally sourced food that satisfies the hunger of Rockaway residents,” according to a description of the restaurant posted on Idealist.org. We’re put in this dudgeon by the news reports that the White House is “weighing” air strikes in respect of Iraq. The Congress has long since given the president the right to go to war in Iraq. There have been all sorts of editorials and opinions in the public press advising the repeal of the authorizations, but the Congress has decided not to repeal them. In the back of a cavernous hall, standing behind rows of solemn-looking men, an Iraqi politician known for her passion began to shriek. Her name was Vian Dakhil: the lone representative of the Yazidi people in Iraq’s parliament. And she was asking for someone, anyone, to listen. The Islamic State had just expelled thousands of her people from the northern town of Sinjar. Stranded on a barren mountain without food or water, they faced extermination. Women, she said, were being sold as sexual slaves. Children, she said, were dying. Someone, she said, must take notice. “We are being slaughtered!” she

For me, watching the Food Network was always an easy escape from the stresses of daily life. There was just something calming about watching chefs in action, and this network had perfected Zen cooking. They’d often use a natural-light filter that made food appear delectable, as if the chefs were blissfully cooking their culinary delights in the sunlit designer kitchen of a tastefully decorated, impeccable home somewhere in the Hamptons. (Well, with Ina Garten, that actually is the case.) I’ve never been anywhere near a sunlit designer kitchen in the Hamptons, but I still found it all oddly soothing. I’d

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Summit earlier this week, Secretary of State John Kerry had a bit of astonishing advice for African leaders. While noting that Africa faces a starvation problem, he also admonished its leaders not to create more farms. The reason? Adding more farms would contribute to “global warming.” Yeah, he really said that: “Certain agricultural processes can actually release carbon pollution and actually contribute to the problem in the first place. It’s a twisted circle. Always complicated. But we also know that there are certain ways to change that. For example, rather than convert natural areas to new farmland, a process

Peace has to start with Israeli and Palestinians leaders, namely Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, US President Barack Obama told the New York Times´ Foreign Affairs columnist Thomas Friedman. [Snip] Obama worried that Netanyahu´s high approval ratings--which have jumped in recent weeks in the wake of Israel´s month-long operation in Gaza--could prevent him from making the difficult concessions needed to reach a long-term deal: "If he doesn’t feel some internal pressure, then it’s hard to see him being able to make some very difficult compromises," like the issue of settlements, the president said.

Barack Obama deliberately set out to lose the war in Iraq, and he did. He defied the advice of his joint chiefs of staff to secure America’s formidable military presence and keep 20,000 troops in country, and left Iraq to its own devices and the tender mercies of Iran. In doing so, he betrayed every American and Iraqi who gave his life to create a free Iraq and keep it out of the clutches of the terrorists. PRESIDENT OBAMA was right to order military action to prevent a potential genocide in northern Iraq and to stop forces of the al-Qaeda-derived Islamic State from advancing on Baghdad or the Kurdish capital of Irbil. However, the steps the president authorized on Thursday amount to more of his administration’s half-measures, narrowly tailored to this week’s emergency and unconnected to any coherent strategy to address the conflagration spreading across the Middle East. While U.S. airstrikes and drops of supplies may prevent the terrorist forces from massacring the Yazidi sect or toppling the pro-Western regime in Kurdistan, Mr. Obama lacks a plausible

An elementary school in the outer suburbs of Atlanta has outlawed birthday cupcakes, cookies and, in fact, all food from birthday parties over fears that some kids with food allergies could feel sad and left out. Officials at Brooks Elementary School in Newnan, Ga. announced the draconian new policy for the upcoming school year via a letter to parents, reports The Newnan Times-Herald. “When parents have brought in goodies for birthdays, oftentimes these children are not included in the snack because of dietary restrictions and have felt left out,” Julie Raschen, principal of Brooks Elementary, said, according to the Times-Herald.
