Rep. Luis Gutierrez: Republicans
risk national irrelevance unless
they move on immigration

Washington Times, by Tom Howell Jr.

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 7/1/2014 10:36:58 AM

A small contingent of Republicans are letting intraparty threats and parochial viewpoints hold up immigration reform and damage their national brand, Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez said Tuesday. Mr. Gutierrez of Illinois said he never left the table when House Republicans demurred on an immediate path to citizenship or comprehensive approach to dealing with the millions of illegal immigrants in America. “Every time we said yes, they found a way to say no,” Mr. Gutierrez told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, has signaled his caucus will not move on comprehensive immigration reform this year — midterm elections are in

Comments:
Unfortunately, some of the Republicans are too ignorant to realize they risk national irrelevance if they DO move on immigration. They need to get some steel spines and quit feeling threatened by these radical anti-American Democrats.

What is ´relevant´ about supporting the party that allows the illegals to flood in (after advertising that they should) and not controlling the borders?

Rep. Gutierrez is watching his own 15 minutes of relevance disappear. This planned swarming of the border has "jumped the shark" for the average American. They are slowly getting the message that we need to employ, educate and help those here legally first. If the Republicans would turn their backs on the Crony Capitalists and drive home that message, they will pick up lots of support from both the blue collar democrats and both main minority communities.

He´s just a mouthpiece for the liberal white Democrat establishment.

Yes, immigration is fine, but it should be LEGAL immigration.

Why does the liberal democrat establishment want illegal immigration?
To exploit a group, that´s why.

Republicans need to illustrate that point!

We shouldn´t just limit the immigration to Hispanics from Mexico and Central America ether, but open up the legal immigration quotas for China, India, Russia, England, Italy, Egypt, Australia, Japan, Korea, etc.

Blunt the Democrat talking-point of being anti-immigrant, but champion LEGAL immigration process.

The battle in itself seemed tragically normal. Two Syrian opposition groups fought and there were heavy casualties on both sides. Then victorious rebels rifled through the pockets of the dead. One contained about $800 in cash -- and an American passport. Douglas McAuthur McCain, of San Diego, California, was killed over the weekend fighting for the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), according to the Free Syrian Army. While there is no evidence of a credible plot against the U.S. now, the latest bulletin warns that the lone wolf nature of the threat would make it difficult to thwart. An Al Sharpton-led memorial service yesterday for Michael Brown, the black 18-year-old thug who gave a white Ferguson, Mo. police officer a severe head injury while trying to seize his handgun, became the grotesque political rally some observers feared it would be. The distinctly anti-police tone of the service was proof that the lie that Brown tried to surrender to white police officer Darren Wilson, rather than trying to beat the life out of him, won’t die. The racial-grievance industry, egged on by President Obama, won’t let it go.

President Obama has done his share to fix the nation´s broken immigration system. He backed comprehensive changes along the lines of those championed by former president George W. Bush. He proposed solutions to the crisis of children from Central America showing up at the U.S. border. And, while waiting for Congress to act, his administration has vigorously enforced current law, deporting more than 2 million people who came here unlawfully. None of this has gotten him anywhere. Democrat Michelle Nunn is running ahead of David Perdue in the race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia. The WSB-TV poll found that Mrs. Nunn has 47 percent to 40 percent edge over Mr. Perdue. The libertarian candidate, Amanda Swafford, received 3 percent, and 10 percent of the respondents were undecided. The winner of the race will replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss. Mrs. Nunn, the daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, is seen as one of Democrats best bets to flip control of a GOP-held seat. Republicans need to flip six seats to win back the Senate.

When a federal appeals court ruled last month that a seemingly arcane wording flaw in the Affordable Care Act should invalidate a central part of the law, many of those who drafted the statute five years ago reacted with shock and anger. In 2009, they had spent months piecing together a compromise that sought to create a national system of subsidized insurance — but one run by the states. Now, they fear their work could be undone by what some call a "drafting error" and others portray as a political miscalculation. The judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for
