Behind the Levitation
Power Line, by Steven Hayward

Original Article

Posted By:MDMuskrat, 6/30/2014 7:10:11 PM

Last week when I commented on the downward revision of the already weak First Quarter GDP numbers, several commenters wrote in to ask: what is keeping the stock market so high? Great question, with the best answer being ZIRP, the Federal Reserve’s “zero interest rate policy,” now matched by many other central banks (with some actually now employing negative interest rates). (snip) It has always been true, however, that times of loose money tend to send stock prices higher than intrinsic valuation might warrant, as the money has nowhere else to go to get plausible returns.

Comments:
For those of us not fortunate enough to have money in this Potemkin stock market, things like ZIRP, phony measures of inflation, and what is supporting this bull(s**t) market should concern us. Coming instability in the ME (you ain´t seen nothing yet) could bring reality to the markets. Be sure to read the comments after the article.

Gov´t statistics says inflation is 1% or less.

The stock market knows that inflation is 11%+ when food and energy is included - the stock market reflects the REAL inflation rate.

Say you have $1,000 to invest. A bank will give you $10 a year in interest. A stable stock will give you $30 a year. (AT&T will give you even more: a 5% yield).

Whether you are an individual, trust, corporation or labor union, you want the larger return. As long as it is safe. A corporation might even buy back it´s own stock, so other stockholders can get a greater return.

Why Does Obama Want
to Reduce CO2 Emissions?
Power Line, by John Hinderaker    Original Article
Posted By: MDMuskrat- 7/7/2014 11:13:53 AM     Post Reply
As his policies, foreign and domestic, are collapsing on pretty much every front, President Obama has increasingly sought refuge in talk about global warming. He wants the U.S. to reduce its emissions of carbon dioxide, and the EPA has done its best to bring this about via increasingly stringent regulations on coal-fired power plants. The Democrats wanted to enact cap-and-trade, but couldn’t get it through Congress, so Obama is doing the best he can through administrative action. Simultaneously, the administration has poured billions of dollars into specious “green” energy projects, many of which can’t be kept alive even with lavish

This past April, with the help of a knowledgeable reader, we took a deep dive into the fossil fuel investments of Democratic money man and environmental poseur Tom Steyer in “The epic hypocrisy of Tom Steyer.” Introducing our reader’s report, John wrote regarding Steyer: “Today, he is a bitter opponent of fossil fuels, especially coal. That fits with his current economic interests: banning coal-fired power plants will boost the value of his solar projects. But it was not always thus. In fact, Steyer owes his fortune in large part to the fact that he has been one of the world’s

Killer of Immigration Reform

The Wall Street Journal editorial page predictably bemoans the collapse of immigration reform and, equally predictably, insinuates that Democrats conspired to help kill it in order to benefit politically. (Favoring cooperation with President Obama on anything requires conservatives to argue that the president secretly hopes the measure will fail.) But the real news comes in the seventh paragraph, when the Journal reports that House Republicans were actually poised to pass a bill before Eric Cantor´s loss freaked them out: ... a majority of GOP Members wanted an immigration reform to pass as long as they didn´t have to vote for

Where Are Libertarians

Every major strand of American conservatism includes a strong libertarian streak, because the value of liberty is fundamental to just about all conservative thought. But today, especially, is said to be the libertarians’ moment. What once was a fringe movement, politically speaking, has moved front and center in our political life. And yet, in my view, libertarians of both the capital L and small l varieties punch below their weight. They have not contributed as much as they should to the conservative movement. This is partly because libertarians tend to founder on foreign policy, where many are merely modern-day isolationists. But

Israel Confirms Death of Missing

Breitbart Big Peace, by Frances Martel    Original Article
Posted By: MDMuskrat- 6/30/2014 2:33:51 PM     Post Reply
The Israeli government has confirmed reports initially surfacing at the Associated Press and the New York Times that the bodies of three Israeli teenagers reported missing earlier this month have been found. The Israeli cabinet is conducting an emergency meeting on the matter. Officials are confident that they have found the bodies of Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaar, and Eyal Yifrach, who went missing in the West Bank earlier this month. Frenkel, a U.S. Citizen, and Shaar were 16 years old; Yifrach was 19. “They know it’s the three, they will know for sure after they do the autopsy," said an Israeli official to the newspaper on the condition of anonymity. He noted that the children appear to have been killed close to the time of kidnapping and had gunshot wounds. Israel's Haaretz newspaper added that the Israeli government was officially conducting a media blackout until all the details were confirmed.

New York Times reporter James Risen has excellent sources in the intelligence community. If you are a disgruntled intelligence officer or official and want to undermine a program or aid enemies of the United States, Risen is the go-to guy. Risen’s accomplishments in this area have been overshadowed by the emergence of Edward Snowden, but Risen should not be forgotten. We know of two valuable national security programs that Risen (writing with his colleague Eric Lichtblau) and the Times destroyed by their disclosure of them. One involved the NSA’s ability to intercept al-Qaeda related communications of terrorists operating abroad.

The idea that a “new, improved” General Motors emerged from the company’s 2009 brush

CANBERRA, Australia- Prime Minister Tony Abbott reintroduced legislation to the Australian Parliament on Monday that would repeal a carbon tax that the nation´s worst greenhouse gas polluters have to pay. The opposition center-left Labor Party and minor Greens party used their Senate majority in March to block the bills that would remove the 24.15 Australian dollar ($22.79) tax per metric ton of carbon dioxide that was introduced by a Labor government in July 2012. The bills were defeated 33 votes to 29. But with new senators to take their seats on July 7 for the first time since Abbott´s conservative coalition government

Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers

On a single day this week in Denver, President Obama scarfed down pizza and drinks with strangers, shot pool with Colorado’s governor and shook hands with a guy on the street wearing a horse mask. His top staffers are promoting these stops on Twitter with the hashtag #TheBearIsLoose — a term one of Obama’s aides coined in 2008 when the candidate would defy his schedule.
