Britain leaving the EU would be a ´disaster´,

Britain´s exit from the EU would be a "disaster" for Europe, a close ally of Angela Merkel has said as Germany attempts to woo David Cameron back into the European fold. Dr Michael Fuchs, the deputy chairman of Germany´s Social Democratic Union party joined his colleague Wolfgang Shaulble, the German finance minister in publicly announcing that the idea of a British exit would be "unimaginable" and that Germany "needs" their continued membership. Mr Cameron was last week out-voted by other EU leaders over the choice of Jean-Claude Junker, a former prime minister of Luxembourg and supporter of a federal Europe as the

A disaster for Germany since that means all the other socialist layabout countries in the EU would come exclusively to Germany for their bailouts.

Agree #3. It could also mean the beginning of the end for this charade that is the EU. It is ironic also that the rest of Europe is asking the Germans for bailouts, after fighting them in two wars.

Israel is only hours away from launching a ground attack on Gaza, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas has claimed. The Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization warned that the Israeli government has already approved a land operation in Gaza, and that the operation is likely to start later today. His claims come as a fresh wave of rocket attacks have hit sites in Israel--including towns in the north of the country that were fired from Lebanon. It is the first time militants in Lebanon have launched missiles following four-days of rocket attacks sent from Gaza. It is not yet known whether

Cease-fire proposals in wars between Israel and its neighbors are predictable: as soon as Israel is winning, the United Nations demands a cease-fire. As Dore Gold ably documents in his Tower of Babble: How the United Nations Has Fueled Global Chaos, cease-fires typically prevent a decisive end to the conflict. They have often guaranteed further war in the long run by providing a temporary calm that allows Israel´s enemies to regroup. President Barack Obama offered Thursday to broker a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinians--actually, the Hamas terror organization. That is one of the worst ideas, among many contenders, ever

Dozens of experts will be weighing in, in coming days, on Israel´s right to self-defence in response to hundreds of Hamas rockets raining down. But what about the Palestinian people, and what’s good for them? Yesterday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of committing "genocide" in Gaza with their current operation "Protective Edge." This type of inflammatory rhetoric is particularly rich coming from someone who is responsible for the murder of hundreds of Israelis (including the murder of the 1972 Israeli Olympic Team in Munich). Despite fiery statements issued by Hamas spokesmen over the past 48 hours, it was obvious Tuesday night that the Islamist movement was searching for ways to rid itself of the current escalation. Hamas feels that it has been forced into a confrontation with Israel – one that it did not want at this stage because of its increased isolation and financial crisis. The massive Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours have surprised Hamas and other Palestinian groups. Hamas apparently expected a limited response to the recent rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns. But as the

President Obama’s ultimate weakness may be that he believes his own blarney. A year ago, Mr. Obama boasted in a “fireside” Web chat that his “is the most transparent administration in history.” There was not the slightest hint of irony. He may actually believe it. But three-dozen organizations representing newspapermen and other journalists, mostly liberals, beg to differ. In a testy letter to the president on Tuesday, the group decried the “slick non-answers” and cold shoulders they’re getting from Mr. Obama’s representatives, who have restricted access to any information they consider embarrassing to the administration. “The stifling of free expression,” the signers
