Memo: From Nick Hanauer To: My Fellow Zillionaires You probably don’t know me, but like you I am one of those .01%ers, a proud and unapologetic capitalist. I have founded, co-founded and funded more than 30 companies across a range of industries—from itsy-bitsy ones like the night club I started in my 20s to giant ones like Amazon.com, for which I was the first nonfamily investor. Then I founded aQuantive, an Internet advertising company that was sold to Microsoft in 2007 for $6.4 billion. In cash. My friends and I own a bank. I tell you all this to demonstrate

Comments:
First Nick get the Henry Ford-$5-per-day wage hike WRONG, it was Henry´s answer to excessive turnover. Then Nick fills three more pages with a Nebraska sized field of straw men. Finally Nick restates the old addage -- that it is better to be lucky than smart.

It ain"t inequality that will bring the end, but rather you and your friends´ attempts to buy out of it. Throw us another bone? We don´t want a higher minimum wage we want FREEDOM!! We don´t want excessive and repressive laws and regulations. And we want our kids educated - not indoctrinated.

We despise you not because you have been successful, but because you have attempted to control our lives and limit our opportunities. When the minimum wage is raised, soon all of the prices rise and people lose jobs and are forced onto the government dole when their companies can no longer afford to pay them.

The pitchforks are coming - yes. But not for the reasons you suppose...

Well, he´s right. He is more lucky because he sure isn´t smart. The income inequality today isn´t due to Capitalism. It´s due to the democrats destruction of the US economy and loss of opportunity for the middle class. Wealthy people can look for opportunities anywhere, and do. The local guy looking for a job cannot. Local opportunities have faded and so has economic success.

If pitchforks are coming it is because the democrats demonize success instead of celebrating it.

It´s pretty amazing that some successful people have not the slightest clue about the foundations upon which their success was established and rests. If you raise the minimum wage it only sets off an inflation spiral that raises the prices on everyone and leaves the lower and middle classes worse off than they were. Artificial wage increases do not work. Only EARNED wage increases through increased knowledge and skill, raising productivity and returning value enough to justify the wage increase works without triggering inflation.

"I sock my extra money away in savings, where it doesn’t do the country much good." Proof positive that this man is an economic doofus, because without savings dollars, there is no capital available for other entrepreneurs to borrow. As for Walmart´s alleged low wages, I´d feel safe in betting that Hanauer would be unwilling to hire the kind of people Walmart employees. For instance, I doubt he has a disabled person greeting people at the entrance of his corporate headquarters.

Don’t Argue With Liberals –

Non-lawyers often ask me, “What is the best way to argue with a liberal?” This is silly, because there is no best way to argue with a liberal. They´re beyond argument. You might as well argue with your terrier. Take it from someone who argues with his hideous terrier all the time. But if you do choose to argue with a liberal, understand that your purpose should never be to change the liberal’s mind. You´re not going to change the liberal’s mind. Instead, if you choose to argue with a liberal, you should do it for one of two reasons – to either win over people who have not yet made up their minds, or to support people who already have begun to understand

In 2012, the British Columbia–based Native American Haida tribe launched an effort to restore the salmon fishery that has provided much of their livelihood for centuries. Acting collectively, the Haida voted to form the Haida Salmon Restoration Corporation, financed it with $2.5 million of their own savings, and used it to support the efforts of American scientist-entrepreneur Russ George to demonstrate the feasibility of open-sea mariculture — in this case, the distribution of 120 tons of iron sulfate into the northeast Pacific to stimulate a phytoplankton bloom which in turn would provide ample food for baby salmon.

Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday that gun tracking bracelets are something the Justice Department (DOJ) wants to “explore” as part of its gun control efforts. A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama had a bit of a weird moment at the White House tonight during an LGBT reception when the president praised the exquisite work of the White House Executive Pastry Chef and joked if he puts crack in them. A crack joke at the White House. Bet you never saw that coming. The Obamas said they were sad to see Bill Yosses leave the White House. The president said, “His pies––I don’t know what he does, whether he puts crack in them––but…” The first lady quickly jumped in to clarify that no, “there is no crack in our

In a statement posted Wednesday on the retailer´s corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees. WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, has a unique item of herself in her office: a photo of herself with three figurines bowing down in worship in front of it. The photo drew attention after Jarrett´s "Meet the Press" interview Sunday — and Jarrett posted a tweet Tuesday afternoon assuring her supporters the display was simply a novelty item. "Don´t worry friends, it was a gag gift," Jarrett wrote, pivoting to some White House messaging about the economy. "Us strong women don´t need worship," she continued, "just an economy for the 21st century. #WomenSucceed." Business Insider directly

Two Texans may be vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016: Sen. Ted Cruz and Governor Rick Perry. Cruz overwhelmingly won the Texas GOP 2016 convention straw poll, confirming his position as the conservative grassroots candidate. He fires up crowds unlike any other politician today, and the power of motivating voters and volunteers should not be underestimated. But will he run in 2016? The signs point to yes. One of his staffers left his office to start a committee to draft him into running. He has visited the early states and spent many weekends during his first 18 months in office raising

St. Claire Shores, MI -The feminists hadn’t shown up yet, but they could, at any moment, with their protest signs and screaming. The threat of them was an infuriating and exhilarating specter throughout the weekend, a symbol of the oppression facing the men’s rights activists who had gathered to meet for their inaugural conference. Early Friday before the opening session, a wispy trail of men — mostly white, college-through-retirement-age — waited for the doors to open outside of this Veterans of Foreign Wars outpost in suburban Detroit. One man talked about his ex-wife. A lot of guys talked about their ex-wives.

The Obama administration is not too concerned about possible Republican responses to its unilateral administrative actions on immigration. “What that they might sue?” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said laughing when asked Tuesday about possible Republican retaliation for the executive action. “They announced they were doing that last week,” he continued. “So, the prospect that Republicans might do even more to try to obstruct the president’s agenda I think is a little far-fetched. It seems to me they have tried every single thing they can think of already to block progress for this country so the fact that they

Reverend Steve Fielder, a pastor at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, has accused Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran’s campaign of engaging in an illegal and criminal campaign scheme to purchase the votes of black community members. The suspect votes were cast during Cochran’s successful effort to defeat Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel in the Mississippi Republican primary run-off held last week. If true, such an action would be clearly illegal under both federal law and Mississippi statutes, specifically MS Code 97-13-1; MS Code 97-13-3 (2013) (Federal Code 18 U.S.C. 597, U.S.C. 1973i(c)), each punishable by a prison
