Theological Rabies in the
Presbyterian Church USA

American Thinker, by Fay Voshell

Francis Schaeffer once said, "Tell me what the world is saying today, and I’ll tell you what the church will be saying in seven years." Schaeffer, a theologian, may have been off by a few years, but he certainly predicted the future of the Presbyterian Church USA, which has now embraced just about every single leftist ideological tenet. The PCUSA has joined the drift to the Left that for decades has characterized other Main Line entities such as the Episcopal and Methodist churches. But it is a bit of a surprise to see the PCUSA has recently warmly embraced anti-Semitism. As Mark Tooley reports in the American Spectator,

Comments:
Your theology matters. One day -- very soon, I believe -- the enemies of Israel are going to find out that God means business when it comes to His piece of real estate.

They seem to have little interest in theological matters anymore, and are just another noisy appendage of the Democrat party. If the author´s math is correct, they´ll have very few members left within 20 years.

The continued leftward drift on same-sex "marriage" was a far bigger deal. Marriage is central to the church. Middle East policy is not. Divesting of HP and Motorola may or may not be good politics but it is good stock analysis. I probably keep keep Caterpillar though.

Yes indeed #6. I consider Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas to be a must read for everyone (especially Christians) wishing to understand where America is today. In my 60 years, I had thought how in this world did Hitler seduce a nation, bully a continent and organize such a detailed plan to exterminate the world´s Jews? Also, to realize he nearly succeeded!! Well, after Obama´s "election," and watching my nation passively sit by and either assist (Democrats) or allow (Republicans) the sinister political seduction and bullying, I am much more understanding of how it happened in Germany. What the Presbyterian Church is doing fits right in with the plan,...

Hogwash. It does not serve the cause one bit to base one´s argument on a heresy that Paul himself argued against. I don´t care if she went to Princeton (home of Elaine Pagels - so what can you expect?), she completely misunderstands Romans 11. She might want to spend more time with John.

Sorry - forgot to include my main point. Divestment has absolutely nothing to do with theology. It is a political tactic thought up by the unholy alliance between the atheist left and islam to do economic battle against Jews. Some in churches have been duped into going along with it. Some others in churches are just non-believing infiltrators bent on destruction. Used to be the Arab boycott of Israel. Now it´s divestment. And anyone who thinks that the Christian Church (ALL Christian churches) isn´t next is deluding himself. It wasn´t that long ago that South American Marxists who came into power were chasing down and murdering Catholic priests. Look it up.

This is what happens when you love the world more than Christ. On another note, I tried to read that biography of Bonhoeffer but couldn´t finish it. I got too depressed.

Like other posters I was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. My family and I left when PCUSA began to embrace Marxism. Our local church split recently when a small group left to stay with PCUSA. The majority that broke with PCUSA would be several hundred of that 200,000 that left. PCUSA is hemorrhaging members. They are now simply another left wing front organization and not something truly religious people are interested in.

In a report made concerning George Washington´s stay near Morristown, New Jersey (The Story of New Jersey, edited by William Starr Myers (New York, NY: Lewis Historical Publishing Company, 1944):

"General Washington typified heroic Christian faith both as commander-in-chief of the army and as President. In his effort to check the rising tide of army vices, in his private habits of devotion and in his public utterances, he did much to strengthen the cause of churches. One of the cherished traditions of the Presbyterian Church at Morristown, New Jersey, is that Washington, while commander-in-chief, encamped there in the winter of 1776-77, participated in the Lord´s Supper with members of the church. ...The church building being occupied as a hospital for the troops, Washington an his officers partook of the communiun with the church members in the apple orchard."

Also ---

In Washington, President Abraham Lincoln "regularly attended the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, and used to go privately and sit alone in the neighboring open room at midweek meetings, where he could hear and not be seen, and find strength for his soul."

Times have certainly changed. Sadly, can´t imagine General Washington and his officers stopping by to worship and participate in the Lord´s Supper, or President Lincoln finding strength for his soul at a modern Presbyterian church, or at many others that have little to no resemblance to the biblical depiction of the Lord´s church .

Those who are courageous enough to split off from their deviant congregations are upholding the integrity of God´s commandments. There is no magic here. When you embrace same sex liaisons and those same people pressure the clergy for recognition in marriage, when you condone the abortion of babies at whatever stage of their growth, when you place man in the center instead of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, you are so far down the slippery slope that pretending to be a Christian is nothing more than being a Christian in name only. Social justice is anathema to Christianity because in its strictest sense social justice is nothing more than the mandatory robbing of Peter to pay Paul, when otherwise Peter might voluntarily be happy to give to Paul.

One of the chief concerns of America’s Founders in the early days of the Republic was the possibility that foreigners would usurp American political power. As Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 68, “[the] most deadly adversaries of republican government might naturally be expected to make their approaches from more than one quarter, but chiefly from the desire in foreign powers to gain improper [ascendancy] in our councils.” The possibility that foreigners might gain political power and subvert traditional American values is even more acute in today’s climate of mass illegal immigration.

Today the Supreme Court ruled unanimously against the Obama Administration’s abuse of the recess appointment power in NLRB v. Canning. Unanimous! And not for the first time. Think back to Sackett v. EPA two years ago, where a similarly unanimous Court ruled that the EPA had grossly exceeded its legal authority, or the Utility Air Regulatory Group decision on Monday, which, although 5 – 4, held that the EPA can’t simply re-write the Clean Air Act to suit its convenience. The Obama Administration would seem to be faring poorly before the third branch.

Conservatives can be forgiven for believing the political winds are at their back. Obama is flirting with historically low approval ratings as much of the public simply tunes him out. Democrat-backed policies have failed to lift the economy and public anxiety about the limits of government activism grows. Conservative challengers will do well enough this primary season to argue that the "tea party" is alive and well. Behind the scenes, though, the left is retooling and the conservative movement seems unequal to the challenge.

Sorry to be crude, but for all intents and purposes, America is currently the victim of a national rape, figuratively speaking – what our nation is experiencing on the southern border is a corporate violation. Moreover, being implanted in the womb of what was once a sovereign nation complete with boundaries and laws is an uninvited presence that, if it were a fetus, pro-choicers would heartily applaud terminating. Instead, liberal pundits and politicians alike contend that America should never turn children in need away.

It is likely that many people will die young because Bowe Bergdahl chose to act out a childish, grandiose fantasy in which he cast himself as a wise and courageous man of mystery and adventure. Both his parents and the American taxpayer supported Mr. Bergdahl to play pretend soldier with a script that reads like a cheesy story for eleven-year-old boys. In Bergdahl’s feverish imagination, which he was tragically allowed to enact, he was a magnificently skilled survivalist who also solved the problem of war in his environmentally and socially sensitive walk about the new world order.
