First the Good...JERSEY BOYS, Clint Eastwood’s hymn to the rise of Frankie Valli (“with an ‘I’”) and the enduring Four Seasons, is entertaining, tuneful, and notable for the “Mad Men”-like calendar of hairstyles, clothing, and makeup of the past 60 years or so. We were particularly impressed by the pointy undergarments worn by the females; accurate attention to period detail. The stylists failed here and there with makeup and hair that was out of era for the decades shown. The hugely successful Broadway play of the same name anthemizes the story, of course, and may explain the etiology of this

Comments:
Saw "Jersey Boys" yesterday. It was as good as, or better, than the play. I loved the actors breaking the fourth wall.

I saw the touring production of "Jersey Boys" a couple of years ago and loved every minute. I´m a fan of Clint Eastwood in his directing role, so I´m looking forward to the film.

We spent an hour searching Netflix for a movie to watch. It was a most difficult, frustrating hour! Finally found one made in England. Movies pretty much stink these days.

Thad Cochran shifts gears in bid
to pull runoff upset against Tea Partier
Washington Examiner, by David Drucker    Original Article

Sen. Thad Cochran and his allies are retooling their campaign strategy in a furious bid to survive Mississippi´s June 24, GOP primary runoff. Insurgent conservative Chris McDaniel, a state senator, led Cochran by just under 1,400 votes with most precincts reporting after last Tuesday’s primary, finishing a half a point shy of the 50 percent plus one threshold he needed to secure the nomination outright. Cochran now faces the enthusiasm and voter turnout gaps that often plague incumbents forced into primary runoffs — even those who win the initial contest by a healthy margin.

Much has been made of the battle between the Republican “establishment” and the Tea Party in the 2014 primary election cycle, particularly the GOP primary campaigns for the Senate races in North Carolina and Nebraska. That battle may be coming to a climax this week in Mississippi, where attorney and two-term state senator Chris McDaniel is riding endorsements from Tea Party groups like the Club For Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund, Citizens United, and Tea Party Express into a primary showdown with Thad Cochran, that state’s senior — he’s been in office forty-one years — U.S. senator.

Angus King Backs Susan

Sen. Angus King (I-ME), an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, today endorsed Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) for re-election over Democrat challenger Shenna Bellows. Earlier this year, King toyed with the idea of caucusing with the Republicans in the Senate if they won a majority of the seats in the 2014 elections. Collins received the lowest score of any Senate Republican by the American Conservative Union´s annual rating of congress. Collins remains popular in Maine and had a 36-point lead over Bellows in recent polls.

Tea Party favorite Ben Sasse won the Republican nomination for an open Senate seat in Nebraska Tuesday night, after a heated and costly primary battle that drew heavy national attention. Sasse, a university president, was able to hold off former state treasurer Shane Osborn and dark horse candidate Sid Dinsdale, who had begun to surge in recent weeks. Sasse grabbed 49 percent of the vote with Dinsdale finishing second and Osborn finishing third, according to preliminary returns.

When even Nate Silver, editor-in-chief of ESPN´s FiveThirtyEight blog and ABC News Special Correspondent, thinks Republicans are favorites to win back control of the Senate, you know things are going in the right direction. The Republican Party – America’s allegedly conservative party – has momentum on its side. Conservatives in 2013 kept focus on President Obama’s unfair, unworkable and unaffordable health care law while liberals tried to stifle debate, and the result has been a favorable electoral landscape few predicted a year ago. But six months out from the November midterm elections, there is plenty of time for the forces

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say. In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.

A crowd of 300 angry protestors forced three buses carrying 140 undocumented migrant children and their parents to turn around in Murrieta, California, on Tuesday after they blocked the road. The dramatic confrontation between the flag waving protestors and the Homeland Security buses came one day after Mayor Alan Long urged residents to resist the federal government´s plan to transfer the Central American migrants to California to ease overcrowding of facilities along the Texas-Mexico border. Holding up banners that said ´Return to Sender´ and suggesting the children should be sent to the White House instead, the irate protestors succeeded when the buses

The Israeli Air Force carried out what it called "precision strikes" on 34 "terror targets" in the Gaza Strip overnight, after the discovery of the bodies of three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped in the West Bank earlier this month. The Israeli Defense Forces said the strikes were in response to rockets being launched earlier into Israel from Gaza. The waves of rockets from Gaza and IDF retaliations have picked up since the teens were kidnapped and the Israeli crackdown began. Hamas has not claimed responsibility for launching the rockets but Israel holds them responsible for everything coming out of Gaza. The Israel Defense

In a statement posted Wednesday on the retailer´s corporate blog, interim CEO John Mulligan said that Target wants a "safe and inviting" atmosphere for its shoppers and employees. WASHINGTON – Republicans see the November midterm elections as an opportunity to take the nation on a different path and call for a new conservative message focusing on the problems of regular Americans. During the latest convention of conservative activist Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition in Washington, D.C., Republicans confidently proclaimed that the GOP has an opportunity to turn back the past six years of President Obama’s administration in the midterm elections. “There’s only one thing to be done in 2014…and that is to take back America by taking back the Senate,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said

Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, has a unique item of herself in her office: a photo of herself with three figurines bowing down in worship in front of it. The photo drew attention after Jarrett´s "Meet the Press" interview Sunday — and Jarrett posted a tweet Tuesday afternoon assuring her supporters the display was simply a novelty item. "Don´t worry friends, it was a gag gift," Jarrett wrote, pivoting to some White House messaging about the economy. "Us strong women don´t need worship," she continued, "just an economy for the 21st century. #WomenSucceed." Business Insider directly

Two Texans may be vying for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016: Sen. Ted Cruz and Governor Rick Perry. Cruz overwhelmingly won the Texas GOP 2016 convention straw poll, confirming his position as the conservative grassroots candidate. He fires up crowds unlike any other politician today, and the power of motivating voters and volunteers should not be underestimated. But will he run in 2016? The signs point to yes. One of his staffers left his office to start a committee to draft him into running. He has visited the early states and spent many weekends during his first 18 months in office raising

St. Claire Shores, MI -The feminists hadn’t shown up yet, but they could, at any moment, with their protest signs and screaming. The threat of them was an infuriating and exhilarating specter throughout the weekend, a symbol of the oppression facing the men’s rights activists who had gathered to meet for their inaugural conference. The Obama administration is not too concerned about possible Republican responses to its unilateral administrative actions on immigration. “What that they might sue?” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said laughing when asked Tuesday about possible Republican retaliation for the executive action. “They announced they were doing that last week,” he continued. “So, the prospect that Republicans might do even more to try to obstruct the president’s agenda I think is a little far-fetched. It seems to me they have tried every single thing they can think of already to block progress for this country so the fact that they
