U.S. Marine Corps Capt. William Mahoney, an AV-8B Harrier pilot, successfully made a vertical landing of his aircraft after a gear malfunction on June 7. “It was a normal flight day. … There was nothing crazy about it,” Mahoney said in a video released by U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa. “I took off and as I was climbing away from the deck I realized I had a gear malfunction.” Mahoney contacted a jet pilot whom he called “Paddles” on the Bataan to help him find a way to land.

My son was a military pilot.
When he was in training , I got to visit and witness briefing sessions.
I was so proud of the young men I saw during those experiences, that I would get tears in my eyes.
When I go to Walmart and see the average male, it makes me appreciate the military even more.
When I see a military guy in a coffe shop I always pickup his check. When I see an old man with a WW2 cap I always thank him for his service.
The pilot in this vid is typical of our military guys.

... a jet pilot whom he called "Paddles"??

Then he met a member of the bridge team whom he called "Captain."

And I am correct in calling the author "Clueless."

#5 - "Paddles" is short for "LSO" which is short for Landing Signal Officer, because they use(d) colored paddles to help pilots land.

My dad used to tell the story of a Corsair pilot trying to land on the deck of the FDR (CV-42) with only the left and tail landing gear.

He was able to land successfully on the one wing gear and after the tail hook fully stopped the plane , it flopped on to its right wing. A successful landing.

The pilot got out and started walking and tripped over his own feet.

A scandal-plagued Democratic operative worked the black vote for Cochran. Meet what appears to be one of the keys to Thad Cochran’s black-turnout operation, Mitzi Bickers. She is, from all appearances, something of a renaissance woman: She is not only the pastor of Atlanta’s Emmanuel Baptist Church but also a former president of the Atlanta school board, a former construction-company executive, and a Democratic staffer and political strategist with a checkered past.

Currently traveling in Minnesota, Barack Obama appears to be bristling at the notion that House Republicans are set to challenge him in the courts. PBS characterizes his demeanor as "mocking." Perhaps. But observers of he Obama White House might note that he often becomes petulant, if not downright immature whenever he feels his presumed authority is being challenged by another branch of America´s Constitutional form of government. “They’re not doing anything, and then they’re mad at me for doing something,” Mr. Obama said of Republican lawmakers, adding, “They’ve decided they’re going to sue me for doing my job.” This came

With the news of a massive influx of immigrants on the southern border, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 22% of Americans favor increased immigration. Only 14% of Republicans, 23% of independents, and 27% of Democrats favor increased immigration. The poll actually revealed a strong desire among Americans to decrease immigration, as 41% of respondents thought immigration should be decreased. This included 50% of GOP voters, 43% of independents, and 32% of Democrats. The percentage of those preferring to decrease immigration has jumped from 35% in 2012 and 2013 to 41% in 2014. There has been a slow but steady growth since

A black man in New Jersey has filed a lawsuit against his former employer, Benjamin Moore Paints, which he says named one of its paint colors after him and then fired him when he complained. Clinton Tucker, who managed online sales for Benjamin Moore, which is owned by the conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, said that he was bothered by the names of several of the company’s paint colors, “Clinton Brown,” “Tucker Chocolate,” and “Confederate Red.” “Being a black man named Clinton Tucker, the plaintiff found this to be extremely racially offensive,” reads the complaint, filed in Essex County Court. Tucker claims

Lois Lerner is back in the news cycle after the IRS told a House committee recently a chunk of her emails are missing because of a failed hard drive, with House Republicans holding multiple hearings on the matter in the past week. And in an interview with POLITICO, Lerner’s lawyer says it’s “a little brazen to think she did this on purpose.” William Taylor III says all the Republican hand-wringing about Lerner doing something sinister is just “silly” because, he said, she honestly doesn’t know what happened to the emails. He charges that Republican “critics of Ms. Lerner and the

Comparisons between Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney have been greatly exaggerated, Hillary Clinton says. Clinton practically rolled with laughter when PBS’ Gwen Ifill noted humorlessly that her own husband has been “forced” to defend her recent comments about being “dead broke” after leaving the White House. What was humorous in that remarks is known only to Clinton. “I shouldn’t have said the, I think, five or so words that I said,” the former secretary of state said. “My inartful use of those five words doesn’t change who I am.” Later in the interview, Ifill asked if Clinton had become the Democratic adaptation of

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) vowed to crush the Tea Party, and with help from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) in Kentucky, he did, and nationally, he will. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has sent the Tea Party to the back benches, and after the recent defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), is his successor any different than him? No. Did anything change? No. The Tea Party is not being done in by Democrats; it is being done in by the party of big business, crony capitalism, big money from insider Wall Street and big banks, the Chamber of

Dear Secretary Clinton, Please consider this in the nature of a friendly intervention. You have a money problem. It’s time to deal with it before it gets worse. Actually, you have two money problems. The first is how you talk about it. The second is how you collect it — or, to be more precise, the fact that you’re still frenetically collecting it. Let me be clear at the outset: The issue isn’t that you’re rich, or even that you and your husband became rich after leaving office. American voters don’t have a problem with wealthy candidates or even wealthy ex-presidents
