The U.S. military’s ongoing
slur of Native Americans

Washington Post, by Simon Waxman

Resistance to the Washington Redskins team name has ebbed and flowed over the years, but thanks in part to letters from 50 senators to the team’s owner, Dan Snyder, and last week’s decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to rescind the team’s trademark registration, the campaign to get rid of it has renewed urgency. Snyder has shrugged off complaints about the name, even claiming that “redskins” is a “badge of honor.” Team president Bruce Allen, protesting too much, says the name “has always been respectful of and shown reverence toward the proud legacy and traditions of Native Americans.” But momentum

I was born in Nebraska of families from there and both Dakotas but I am not considered a native American. I will never figure that out. Didn´t they come from people who originated in Asia or Siberia?

I wish they would make more effort to honor the Celts. That´s my heritage and I say "go for it!" My ancestors helped create this nation even after many of my genetic type were transported here as indentured labor so I´d be thrilled to see a little more appreciation.

Take all those Native American names away and you know they´ll be complaining to get them back. Suddenly ignoring them would be the insult. And the vast majority of Native Americans don´t even give a hoot anyway. The whole thing is ridiculous.

" It is our counsel that the name ´Redskins´ is a revered and honored name in the eyes and hearts of the people...and that it signifies to them as to us the qualities of courage, self discipline, respect, kindness, honesty, and love exemplified by generations of young athletes. We, the Redskins of Indian Blood, and our namesake...have a mutual and cherished heritage, may it be blessed...as long as the winds shall blow. "

"because the myth of the worthy native adversary is more palatable than the reality — the conquered tribes of this land were not rivals but victims, cheated and impossibly outgunned."

You racist pig. Read your history. Native Americans were sophisticated worthy adversaries and in many ways vastly superior to the European "immigrants" in the art of war. Ever hear of Joseph Brandt (Thayendanegea)? Sounds like you studied history in front of the television. Of course in the 19th century things evolved into the TV image seared in your feeble mind.

For the record I am not native American that I know of, possibly one Narragansett ancestor in the wood pile.

Sorry for second post, but I must chime in to agree with #6. If the Native Americans were "not rivals but victims" it would not have taken more than two centuries to thoroughly defeat them. They were very worthy adversaries even as they were cheated and manipulated by the federal government, local officials, schemers and charlatans of their own race.

Here´s the thing that really gets me about people like Waxman (any relation?). The same means the federal government used to manipulate, control and ultimately irrevocably damage the Native Americans are the exact means they´re using on the entire nation today. Exact. Develop dependency, then take what you want giving back only as much as will secure ongoing dependency. I do not see how progs can continue to be so outraged about the past without seeing the exact same tactics being used in the present. Shallow idiots.

No, let´s whine about nicknames. For cryin´ out loud.

Gutierrez Slams ´Shameful´ GOP

Breitbart TV, by Pam Key    Original Article

Friday on "Democracy Now," Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) attacked his "shameful" Republican colleagues for wanting to change the 2008 child trafficking law so that the children from from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador current streaming across the border in hopes of evading deportation will be treated the same as those from Mexico before approving the $3.7 billion in emergency funding the president has requested. The Illinois Democrat said, "I think it is shameful that in the Congress of the U.S. we see members of Congress engendering and creating fear of children. We should be protecting children, not creating fear of them." Yesterday,

We are told by Liberals that we should not be concerned about the current immigrant invasion of the U.S. because, after all, we are a “nation of immigrants.” Not in the way that Libs mean it. Past immigrants to America have left failed cultures that immigrants knew were failures. That is why they left them to come to America. They came here to join the American culture of achievement and private property which lets them benefit from their achievements. They left cultures of tyranny to join America’s culture of liberty. Immigrants on the southern border currently are not in this tradition. Far

Dean likened the political stalemate over this issue and in general in Washington to McCarthyism in the 1950s: "It reminds me of the ´who lost China´ debate...where one side is frothing at the mouth and finding communists under every bed; and the other side – including some reasonable Republicans...actually trying to run the country." WASHINGTON The fever-swamp fantasy coursing through conservative America — that Barack Obama one day soon will be frog-marched out of office for "high crimes and misdemeanours" — is proving astonishingly resilient. Barely one day after House Majority Leader John Boehner moved to drown the deafening impeachment chatter, announcing instead a Republican plan to sue the president for executive overreach, the clamour returned Friday like an unwhacked mole. Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, showing once again that even if Washington doesn´t take her seriously, millions of others do, tore a strip off Boehner in a fresh missive for Fox News, decrying the

The “ugly American” has gotten a lot uglier over the past few weeks, from the streets of California to the halls of Congress and state houses around the country. A growing number of our fellow Americans have taken on grotesque features, in looks and sounds, in reaction to the thousands of children from Central America who have crossed our borders as they flee poverty and violence in hope for something better. Sadly, the arrival of these youngsters has been greeted by flag-waving, sign-carrying, Bible-thumping and Constitution-quoting citizens demanding that they not be received here and that they be returned immediately to their

Think Mitt Romney won´t run again in 2016? For those dismissing the possibility of the two-time presidential candidate launching another bid -- and they may be wise to do so -- a recent poll at least shows the former GOP nominee still has a loyal following in parts of the country. First, the reality check. Romney, after two tiring presidential campaigns, consistently has said he is not running. The Center for American Progress is calling for Congress to ditch the federal gas tax in lieu of a system where drivers pay fees for road construction based on how many miles they travel. The proposed mileage-based system has been controversial in previous transportation funding debates because critics question how government would monitor the traveling habits of drivers without infringing upon their privacy. But the Center for American Progress said Friday that taxing drivers based on how far they drive is a much more sustainable system than the current 18.4 cents per gallon federal gas tax. She, her sisters and mother were terrorized by an alcoholic father who abused them and stole the earnings from her mother’s struggling grocery store to spend on liquor and women. The tipping point came when Mirabel, then 16, confronted her father after a drunken rampage, and he nearly killed her with a machete. However, when pressed by Sen.
