Maybe he took the route he took because of being arrested for taking or arranging for the taking of a photo of his opponent´s bedridden wife in a nursig home. Maybe to him that was more honorable than going to jail. Jail isn´t kind to lawyers, either.

Rick Perry to greet

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is slated to greet President Barack Obama on the tarmac in Dallas on Wednesday ahead of a likely private meeting with him in the Lone Star State, a spokesman for the governor said. Perry, a Republican and potential 2016 presidential contender, has been pushing Obama to come to the Texas border with Mexico to see the influx of illegal immigrants, many of them minors, gathering there in what’s been described as a mounting humanitarian crisis. The governor had previously declined to greet the president at the Austin airport and, in a letter to the White House, asked

The lawyer for ex-IRS official Lois Lerner on Wednesday walked back comments about whether she followed record-keeping laws and printed out official emails, saying she did make “some” such back-ups. William Taylor III of Zuckerman Spaeder late last month told POLITICO that Lerner, the former head of the tax exempt division that singled out tea party groups, did not print off and file her official emails because she didn’t know she had to. He later followed up with an email, writing: “Did she print out official records and file them[?] Answer. No, and she did not think it was required.”

President Obama has an opportunity to do two big things: help resolve the ongoing crisis at the border, and put us on a path to immigration reform. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem interested in either. Today the president is in Texas, where he turned down an invitation from Gov. Rick Perry to tour the border for himself so he might see the crisis firsthand. Not interested, the president told the governor. Instead, he’ll spend his time .?.?. fund-raising. Obama’s visit to Texas comes just after he asked Congress for $3.8 billion in emergency spending. The money is meant to address the chaos at the

This might have been the best meal served on a plane. A Frontier Airlines pilot treated passengers to a pizza party on Monday after their flight was experiencing a dreadful delay and had run out of food. Stranded on the runway for nearly two hours, passengers were apparently growing hungry, and one of the pilots knew he had to act fast. Traveling from Washington, D.C., to Denver, the plane had been diverted to Cheyenne, Wyoming, due to a series of storms in the area, CNN reports. After realizing that the plane’s food supplies had been completely depleted, the pilot made the decision to

To save the Windy City, we have to use everything at our disposal. A major American city is quickly being lost to guns, gangs, drugs and hopelessness, and political and business leaders are giving lip service to the problem. Yet while our politicians dither, the city’s Southside and Westside residents are living in perpetual fear, afraid to walk the streets. It’s time for Mayor Rahn Emanuel to put his ego and political ambitions aside. It’s time for him to ask the state police and the National Guard to come into Chicago and assist the police department in regaining control of the city’s

The White House on Tuesday formally requested $3.7 billion in emergency funding from Congress to deal with an influx of Central American minors along the southern border. But the proposal was quickly met with broad skepticism among Republican lawmakers, who were doubtful that the package would be approved quickly — if at all. Administration officials said the request is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at building more detention centers, adding immigration judges, and beefing up border patrols and air surveillance. President Obama has said he hopes such steps will both speed deportations and discourage adults from sending children on

Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept. Discrediting the price paid for America’s exceptionalism over our history, he’s given false hope and taxpayer’s change to millions of foreign nationals who want to sneak into our country illegally. WASHINGTON — Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that they had developed legislation to override the Supreme Court decision on contraceptives. The bill would ensure that women have access to coverage for birth control even if they work for businesses that have religious objections. The bill, developed in consultation with the Obama administration, would require for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby Stores to provide and pay for contraceptive coverage, along with other preventive services, under the Affordable Care Act. The measure could be on the Senate floor as early as next week, Senate Democrats said. “Your health care decisions are not your boss’s

Starting next week, House Republicans will launch a highly visible—and likely tumultuous—three-week process of bringing to the floor legislation to authorize their promised lawsuit against President Obama over his use of executive actions. "In theory, you could report out a resolution tomorrow and vote on it," said a House GOP aide on Tuesday. "But that is not the approach [the leaders] want to take." Rather, the aim is to display—if not actually engage in—a more deliberative process, even if amid controversy. This drawn-out script builds toward a potentially dramatic floor vote held just days, or even hours, before the House adjourns on

Fate hasn´t been kind to Hillary Clinton, at least not in its most recent phase. In 2008, when the plate was set for the national Democrats, she lost the nomination to Barack Obama, of scant years and no gravitas, who soared out of nowhere to wrench destiny from her on the unspecified promise of "change." Now, "change" has come, and people don´t like it. Iraq changed from a safe, stable ally (just ask Obama) to a terrorist haven, one of the reasons why, though no fellow Democrats seem likely to edge her, her chances of winning the White House seem dim.
