The Tea Party is winning
Washington Post, by Greg Sargent

Original Article

Posted By:Blackeagle, 6/26/2014 8:03:05 AM

So Thad Cochran rebuffed Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel last night. Coming after the overthrow of big business Republican Eric Cantor, this will require another rapid revision in the Tea-Party-versus-GOP-establishment narrative. But the daily vicissitudes in that ongoing story are beside the point. The bigger story is that on many key issues, the business community is getting nothing for its investment in the GOP establishment’s picks. The GOP is letting Tea Party predilections and preoccupations set the party’s agenda — at the direct expense of the business community’s priorities.

Comments:
This is an opportunity to get a left-wing take on Tea Party successes and failures. His takeaway is that the TP, while not winning many primaries, is imprinting its will on the establishment GOP. He thinks this is really bad - so it must be really good. By changing policies, of course, is how third party movements have generally impacted the mainstream party that they wished to replace. Their ideas, rather than actual candidates, are instead absorbed into the existing party. I suppose that means Thad´s voting may become more TeaPartyish going forward.

We will not get our country back with the GOP establishment in power. The GOP establishment has to go. Even if it means losing the Senate. Even if it means voting Democrat to drive them from their positions of power and access to funding.

The Cochran/McDaniel race pulled the curtain back. This unfortunately may be the political version of WWIII.

Ok, I´m listening. Can someone explain the logic of helping the Democrats keep the Senate in November in order to make some kind of point or teach a lesson or the various results I keep seeing on these posts? How does A (being angry that Cochran won in Mississippi) + B (vote for a Democrat against any GOP candidate in November) = C (mission accomplished, the Tea Party/conservatives have prevailed (?))

It appears to me that C, instead, means at least two more years of Harry Reid in control and Barack Obama in full Roman emperor mode.

The author states that the GOP leadership dodged a bullet without realizing they walked in front of a train.

The GOP is finished. There are enough patriots such a myself, whom will not only not support the republicans next November, but will vote for their democrat opponents.

As one Ldotter stated yesterday, "The GOP may have to be burned down, and rebuilt from the ground up." The republicans will hold the House, but will NOT win the Senate: Thad Cochran will lose his seat, too.

Two years or ten years, the GOP establishment have to go. Any length of time is shorter than forever. The GOP´s actions in Mississippi shows that power comes first and principle comes second. Collectively, they are unfit to serve, but have access to big money and we must separate them from their money to wrest get our country back. It is not about being mad, it is not about teaching anyone a lesson. It is about getting our country back. In any relationship, the one who cares the least about it controls it. I absolutely do not care about the GOP.

Try to remember the outcome of the 2008 election when the Republicans who stayed home to ´teach the GOP a lesson´ got Obama elected. Elections do have consequences and those voters are as guilty as the liberals of contributing to the destruction of our country.

I´ve decided to vote only for the Conservatives. I won´t vote for another Establishment Republican as the lesser of two evils. After all, voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.

The Country Club Republicans showed us this week, they don´t believe they need the Grassroots Conservatives to win elections...they are going to win with African Americans. OK...let´s see how they do without us.

I will be glad to explain it for you #2, it will destroy the GOP Establishment and return the party to it´s base. It is designed to push Boehner and McConnell out of the leadership, as well as their lackeys.

You haven´t been paying attention. Put down the pom poms and look at what is going on around you. People are no longer buying the ´elect a feckless GOP acting as a Dem lite so we don´t get a real Dem´ argument any longer. The GOP Establishment needs to give up that tired old argument.

#9, I have no pompoms. You borrowed them, remember? For your last Palin rally.

#3/#5: Sorry, there´s no logic in your "last paragraph"

I suggest both of you pay attention to #6.

I don´t care who any of you vote for. That´s a personal decision each of us must make. But it is my opinion that helping the Democrats to solidify their hold on Congress and the White House for at least two more years might "burn down" what is perceived as GOP establishment, but will also finish destroying the country. There´ll be no party "rebuilding" if we have no nation left to save.

Oh please, #1, your suggestions are dangerous. Who is the real enemy of the Republicans? Obama? Harry Reid? Nancy Pelosi? Democrats? Or our own base?

I like the fact that the Republicans are versatile with who comprises the party. I like the fact that they can think on their own; yes, even John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell or whoever. I may not always agree with them but I will vote for them.

If the whole idea of the Tea Party is to target Republicans, that isn´t my cup of tea. There seems to be a lot of generalizing about the Republicans. I happen to really like Ron Johnson so if you´re bashing Republicans, you´re bashing him.

Go ahead and sit home - don´t vote. That took place in 2006 and I believe that is how we got Nancy Pelosi. She said the swamp was being drained of the Republicans. Now I hope you understand why I think #1´s ideas are dangerous.

No sale here. This one does not even meet the threshold of "nice try".

History has taught us that the real GOP/Democrat progressive agenda will be achieved behind closed doors through "gangs of" whatever, House Senate conference committees, and other means. Then there are executive actions and regulations that can be simply ignored. There are so many ways to do things outside of what the Framers intended and what the voters want.

And then there will be the lame duck session in November/December.

If there were a smidgen of truth that the Tea Party agenda is being assimilated into that of the GOP, the outrage of what happened in MS and the apologist comments, same old tired arguments, and attempts to cast guilt should dispel it.

Remember how quickly Boehner retreated after the sequester was allowed to take place under Tea Party pressure and actually started to work. He cried that some internal poll numbers were dropping and ran from it as fast as he could. There will be no more government shutdowns, he announced - and ceded one of the key powers that the Framers gave him to remedy the abuses of the Executive. After appearing to placate Tea Partiers, Boehner ultimately got things back on track for the CofC agenda.

It is time for Tea Partiers to wake up and take the next political step. Coalesce and form new party. We need people like Sarah, Mike, Ted, and others to lead the way.

As was posted yesterday, the leaders (McConnell and Boenher) who orchestrated the liberal black outreach need to be sacrificed for the good of the party´s future. We will still keep the house and still win the senate. Each election, we need to cut the heads off the two leaders of the GOP until they obey the base.

It won´t take long to right the ship.

I get emails & requests for $$$ from different factions of the Tea Party almost daily and as a result support none. Rather than a political force ´of the people´ it seems to have splintered into several groups of who knows what?

I want to actually join "The Tea Party" and support it monetarily but can´t discern just who deserves it? Anyone?

The author of this article is an idiot.

To a lot of others who posted: vote in November. Never give up, never stop trying. No one said this would be easy and it could happen over night. There are still Conservatives in the Senate and the House and they are slowly gaining influence. Your beef is with the establishment, not the whole party. Don´t throw the baby out with the bath water. And never give up. Laying down and giving this country to the Democrats is exactly what they want - the establishment Repubs played right into their hands.

Some GOP establishment loyalists cannot see the forest for the trees. Anyone that believes a party led by McConnell, Boehner, Rove and Bush confidantes is going to "save the nation" from Democrats is dreaming. The tactics deployed in MS showed us, in living color, living lovely color, what moral rot inhabits the character of these "leaders." The GOP establishment purposely wars and battles their own base, people. A house divided against itself shall not and will not stand. You just can´t cover up all this stuff and keep lecturing us to Vote Republican. Sheesh.

Why is anyone bothering to answer #2´s questions?

The Republican Establishment and its lackeys know the answers but refuse to understand the logic because they would have to admit their logic is flawed and based on greed, not whats best for the country.

It is THEIR fault if democrats get elected because you choose not to reward their arrogant asinine behavior in November. THEY have been told time and again their conservative base will no longer tolerate being slapped in the face over and over and be expected to show up and vote

The Republican Establishment´s actions in Mississippi was the final straw. This is the path THEY chose. Now that the inevitable is about the happen they suddenly act confused as to why NO ONE GIVES A CRAP if a democrat is elected if that what it takes to get rid of those in leadership that NO ONE trust or believes in.

Just ignore their sanctimonious idiotic questions. They do not DESERVE your time or effort.
