US secretary of state John Kerry will attend key Nato discussions on Iraq on Wednesday, the day after US military advisers began moving into Baghdad as Iraqi forces battle Sunni militants. [Snip] The first of up to 300 US military advisers began their mission in Baghdad Tuesday to help the Iraqi army, but the Pentagon said the American troops were not taking on a combat role. The primary task of the advisers was to evaluate the state of the Iraqi forces and not to turn the tide against militants from Isis, which have swept across western and northern Iraq, the

Are our people allowed to carry weapons and shoot back? If not, they´ve just been sent on a suicide mission. If they are allowed to shoot back, then they are not simply "advisers", they are "boots on the ground".

Is this Obama´s way of having it both ways? For his base, he claims they´re just "advisers" but they are really troops. It´s just that he can´t actually say that and not create a spitstorm of criticism.

I can evaluate the troops just from the picture. They stink. One doesn´t know how to carry his weapon. The others don´t know how to put themselves in a proper formation. Bunch yourselves up like that and I can take all three of you out with one burst from an M-16. They look like rent a cops patrolling the mall. We´re fools. If we´re not going to send troops in and wipe out ISIL then we need to stay out of it. Support Jordan, and the Saudi´s and try to contain the contagion as much as possible.

...and to think the "advisors" will not be eligible for combat pay. Doesn´t that ensure
their un-involvement as combat troops?

Nigel Farage was today accused of ´shocking disrespect´ after turning his back on the EU´s national anthem as the European Parliament was opened in France. The UKIP leader´s public show of dissent came after the German socialist Martin Schulz was reappointed president of the European Parliament--in a shady ´backroom stitch up´ sparking anger in Britain. Mr Schulz was backed by MEPs to carry on in the £213,000 a year role, despite the fact that his Socialist group lost May´s European elections. The United States fears that two of al-Qaeda´s most deadly international offshoots are plotting to bring down a commercial airliner with the help of European jihadists returning from Syria. The White House is debating asking its allies to step up airport security in response to the new threat from the terror group´s Syrian and Yemeni branches, meaning British travellers could face intensified screenings. The American plan, reported by ABC News, could call for an influx of armed US air marshals on British flights or an increase in searches of passengers headed to the US.

Jobless EU migrants claiming benefits will be booted out of Britain from tomorrow if they show no sign of finding work. Ministers say the radical measure is an attempt to give Britain the toughest controls on migrants in the world. It means those who have been claiming jobseeker’s allowance for six months will have to undergo “prospect of work” interviews to determine whether they can stay in the country. Those who do not have a job offer or the imminent prospect of finding work will lose their right to reside in the UK--leaving many liable to be sent home.

The president said his administration would ´refocus´ its efforts on the border, and he would use his ´existing legal authority´ to do ´what Congress refuses to do´ and fix the broken immigration system. If anyone at the White House was paying any attention to the dramatic changes taking place to the landscape of the Middle East, then they should be ringing the alarm bells. There are many understandable reasons why Western leaders are wary of backing the pro-Iranian Shia government of Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki. But at the same time they should realise, as I have argued since the crisis erupted earlier this month, that allowing a fascist-style Islamist organisation like the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (Isis) to establish its own independent fiefdom in northern Iraq and Syria could have potentially

Megyn Kelly faced off with former Weather Underground leader Bill Ayers in an explosive interview tonight in which Kelly repeatedly confronted Ayers about bombings and killings that the radical group was reportedly involved in. Kelly asked Ayers how many bombings he was personally responsible for. Ayers declined to answer, but did acknowledge the “terrible risk” they took with some of their more out-there tactics. Kelly grilled him on how the Weather Underground “declared a state of war against the U.S. government” and encouraged violence. The Keystone Pipeline project was expected to create tens of thousands of high paying jobs in the oil industry. The project itself would create 20,000 construction jobs. And the pipeline would bring oil from Canada and North Dakota to refineries in the United States. The proposed project would have extended from Alberta, Canada to Illinois, transporting approximately 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Estimated cost is $1.7 billion. But Obama rejected the plan in 2011 and 2014. Democrats are beholden to the radical green movement – the poor and middle class be damned. Now this… Canada pulled the plug on Keystone and will

As thousands of disease-riddled criminals storm across our borders, is it really time to mince words? President Obama appears to have an Agenda for America that stinks worse than a Border Patrol bus depot crammed with urine-drenched illegals. Is the man trying to protect and defend us, or does he want us to kick the bucket, run down the curtain, and join the choir invisible? On January 29, 2014, the Department of Homeland Security advertised for a vendor to escort 65,000 “unaccompanied alien children,” indicating that they not only knew the alien invasion was coming, they planned it.

Today, the Supreme Court ruled in the nationally followed Hobby Lobby case. The for-profit corporations that brought these cases to the Supreme Court—a craft store and a cabinet manufacturer—argued that the corporations’ religious convictions should excuse them from compensating their employees through the comprehensive health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers sought to exclude insurance coverage of several forms of birth control because, contrary to medical and scientific evidence, the corporations’ owners believe some birth control causes abortions. The Affordable Care Act already includes special arrangements for houses of worship and religious non-profits, like schools and hospitals. Houses

The waves of rockets from Gaza and IDF retaliations have picked up since the teens were kidnapped and the Israeli crackdown began.
